The Hamas has had a few destructive missiles hit Israel but there greatest success has been in creating fear and disruption of daily life. It's now israel's turn to return the favor! The people of Gaza have been reminded now what Israel can do if she wants. Why send in ground troops when she can now simply fly low and loud over gaza, breaking the sound barrier from time to time and only occasionally "waste" an expensive bomb. Let the people of Gaza live in fear of what might fall from the skies, without the hippocrates of our modern world being able to condemn Israel for "unnecessary bloodshed" and "excessive use of force"...

The ongoing campaign has too much similarities with the 2nd Lebanese War, 2 years ago. I'm extremely afraid that Israel may end up as a perceived loser (or even worse, a real one) by not achieving its goals, especially in the case of ground operations and the inevitable casualties. Could any reader with a military background clarify it to the laymen readers? Is there any real perspective of sucess in this campaign? How can Israel prevent a defeat (real ou perceived, does not matter) from happening?!

as an israeli reserver in the paratrooper brigade, i can assure you that yes, we need a foot on the ground war campaign. otherwise, no go. we can't do a;; from the air. this was our problem in leb 2. ground incursions will cost lots of lives and israeli idf deaths. is the country or its leaders ready for this carnage? who knows? is it worth it? yes! we have gotten comfortsble, enjoying our life style, our semi peac3e, our prosperity. no one wants to die anymore. we are sick of the terror. are we ready to make an invasion? let's take it easy and what is important now is to soften the hamas enemy so much throuhg bombing and bombing, that there may never be anything left to fight. we need to find where they are hiding. we need intelligence to cut off the hydra heads and eliminate the top echelon that gives the orders. we need to eliminate them. THEN, WE CAN GO IN WITH LESS OF A LOSS OF LIVES.

Please spare us your dfeatist analasis....ther should be NO stoping this time till Hamas is CRUSHED !!! REMEMBER this is a battle not only with Hamas, this is a battle to remove an Iranian claw, one of two claws the Iranians have mangad to clamp around Israel's neck, one in the north with the Hizzis and in the south by Hamas. We MUST break these claws to win the battle agaist Iran...this is not as much an Israeli/Pals thing anymore, but it is part of the overall war on terror instigated by Iran, and if people like you start to focus and see reality, and write about it, the world too will start to see it this way, taking the presure off of Israel to let this beast remain in place. Otherwise I like to read ops.
6. Divine Victory, Shmavine Victory

Once the enemy gets a taste of Israel's fire power. They are not anxious to get into the fight again. Witness Hizballah's sticking to talk.
7. Walking on a razor's edge
Jessie ,   Canada   (12.30.08)
Flavio, Israel is smart. They did an extensive study on what failed last time, so as not to repeat the same mistakes. I believe they have plans for every scenario. Let's see what happens. I can't believe peace loving people say nothing when Israel is bombed daily and wake up when Israel responds.
8. The first line of defense.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (12.30.08)
The war against Israel is not a war only against Israel. It is a war against the West. It is jihad. Israel is simply receiving the blows that are meant for all of us. If there would have been no Israel, Islamic imperialism would have found other venues to release its energy and its desire for conquest. Although the public has wholeheartedly accepted the Palestinian narrative, and sees Israel as the aggressor in reality, Israel is our first line of defense. If you still have doubts about Islam and jihad consult : http://xrl.us/os8ed http://israelagainstterror.blogspot.com/2008/10/trail-of-terror.html
9. Preventing a "Divine Victory"--No One to Mediate?
Panda Bear ,   Omaha USA   (12.30.08)
It makes you wonder why no Arab or International Party is willing to serve as a mediator. It appears OPEC might be happy about such a conflict with oil prices going up because of such. Maybe Hamas has actually ticked off many an Arab leadership with their arrogance and they secretly find this conflict just deserts for Hamas? Maybe Hamas's Iranian relationships are too alarming for even other Middle Eastern governments to want to deal with and want to curb that relationship before it gets too out of hand and too powerful in order that it is not turned on them in the future and are secretly glad that Israel is in such a conflict with Hamas. It could be that other Arab or Middle Eastern governments want to take a wait and see attitude in order to better access how far Iran will go to protect Hamas and how the Arab street feels about things before they decide how to react. Afterall, these other governments cannot take the risk of a backlash from their own citizens for making a "wrong" decision as to how to respond, but at the same time, they don't want to get involved in something they would prefer to stay out of for their own long-range objectives of their own country. It is too sad that many in the conflict are thrown into it as mere pawns of the powers that be. But then again, when the people of Gaza voted in Hamas they should have expected this conflict to come one day. The leaders of Hamas cannot spit in the face of G-d and say to G-d, "I will be G-d to the people of Gaza and protect them and provide for them" and basically proclaim that they are G-d and not expect the True and One G-d of All Creation to not eventually respond to the arrogance of Hamas and their attitude. I may be wrong, but I get the strong impression that G-d does not take kindly to persons who proclaim they know G-d and G-d is with them and then they commit numerous unG-dly acts in order to accomplish their objectives. And to me, this is what Hamas does, they commit one unG-dly act after another to accomplish their goals and objectives. I certainly hope that the Arab world is not willing to go all the way in this war as well. I don't think many a person right now in this world is going to be too happy with the Arab world should they decide to go that direction. Such a decision by the Arab world would really come back to bite them, and bite them big. If the Arab World wants to start WWIII because Hamas just had to shoot missles into Israel because they were too arrogant to negotiate a continued truce, then I guess we will all at least find out who G-d is really with in the end. Maybe this is a real good time for everyone on this plant to seek G-d and meditate on what it truly means to know Him.
10. To Hertzel: Right on the Mark. Very Good
Dav Lev ,   Burbank. CAUSA   (12.30.08)
To Hertzel: Very good comment, right on the mark, one of the most accurate I've read. This has NEVER been about Hamas, it's about Iran's effort to strangle Israel, until it can drop a few atomic bombs over the Tel Aviv area, with impunity. It knows that 1 bomb, and Israel is finished..(Israel does not have any atomic bombs loaded which have been tested). Israel erred in Lebanon when it didn't use bunker busters, and removed those 50,000 reservists). It has now corrected it's mistakes..but must NOT fall back under UN and Arab pressure. If it does, it is finished as a nation. This is about stopping the "New World Muslim Order". You are right. The West's future is at stake, Britain is hopelessly mired down in Sharia. We must prevent the Muslims from spreading their Koran at all costs...Sharia law, and their perspective on life which is Jihad Jihad, Jihad (against Jews and Infidels). Read the Suras, if you are still questioning this. I did. John Hagee, pastor was right.
11. Iran Will Nuke Tel Aviv, Haifa and Ashkelon
Dav Lev ,   Burbank. CAUSA   (12.30.08)
This is one of the worse articles I've read in a long time. What a moron this writer is. Israel is "whuppin" Hamas badly..they have yet to take off the gloves. One tank column down Gaza City can take it out completely. Israel may have tactical nukes..low fusion..which it can utilize if need be. A few exploded over the Strip, and the Arab will beg for mercy, those that survive. If Syria/Iran complain, I would target Tehran and Damascus. LETS REMEMBER, ONCE IRAN GETS THE BOMB, IT WILL NUKE THE TELAVIV, JERUSALEM AND HAIFA AREAS, without doubt.

14. Use all means necessary
PatriotUSA ,   Oregon , USA   (12.30.08)
Israel should be and be ready to use all means at their disposal. That this should turn into another Lebanon type disaster should NOT be allowed to take place. Israel should accept no type of truce with hamas/hezbollah because in islam, any truce od hudna is tempoary and will only allow the islamofacists time to reload and rearm. Cowards that these islamofacists are, resorting to homicide squads, booby tapped houses etc.. Israel must be prepared to accept the losses that will come with any ground invasion of gazastan. There is no other choice except to "negotiate" and lose even more face against the islamofacists. World opinion must take a back seat until the objective is achieved. Total destruction of hamas and reducing gaza stan to rubble. Would we here in the USA tolerate the non stop missle attacks from Mexico or Canada like Israel has for so long?? No truce, no peace treaty because the arbs will break them, as they always do. Is Israel ready to make the sacrifices needed to win, I pray so for Israel's future. This article is poorly written and is full of appeasement and surrender. Read it very closely.
15. Our goal should NOT be regime change.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (12.30.08)
Hamas should be left in power, just severely weakened, battered badly. Enough damage must be done so that they are perceived as having lost. But, we must not conquer Gaza for Fatah & Abbas. The IDF is not the army of Palestine. Our soldiers are not risking their lives for the irrelevent Abbas & his inept collection of corrupt thieves. Will we have to occupy Gaza to protect Abbas as we do in the West Bank? This Gaza op must not be a step towards the creation of a Palestinian state. Our politicians cannot be trusted - they almost always have ulterior motives hidden under tons of deceptive verbiage. We need not get carried away by cries to ''destroy'' Hamas (at least, not yet).

Let's trust the military command and hope that everything will turn out for the best!!! It is hard to give any concrete contribution from abroad, other than hasbara, but all our thoughts and prayers are with Israel and Israelis!!
20. STOP WORRYING ABOUT ARAB CIVILIAN CASUALTIES - WORRY ABOUT

ISRAELI LIVES, ESPECIALLY THE HOLY SOLDIERS OF THE IDF. IT IS A WELL KNOWN FACT THAT ARABS WANT US DEAD. LET'S FOLLOW THE TORAH FOR A CHANGE AND KILL OUR ENEMY FIRST AND NOT FOLLOW THE WAYS OF THE GOYIM AND TURN THE OTHER CHEEK.

22. Coward
Fadi ,   Canada   (12.30.08)
This is the definition of cowardly tactics. hamas has very little weapons compared to israeli army, but israeli army is still too scared to get in there through the ground. they need to bomb from the air because they are scared. pathetic.
23. Author should ask for refund from his teachers
Adam Eliyahu Berkowi   (12.30.08)
He isn't very intelligent, or maybe he is intelligent but he was taught to think in ridiculous ways. The goals of Israel should be very clear; stop the missile attacks. Unfortunately, Israeli media has been "sleeping with the enemy" for too long. The media has legitimacy only because it acts as one of the checks and balances that keep politicians n the straight and narrow. Unfortunately, most of the media have begun to say exactly what the politicians want them to say. That turns the media into a propaganda machine, a form of mind control. You sound like a politician who sees the war as a part of the political agenda. Keep it simple, stupid. Stop the bombs equals victory, more kassams equals defeat.
24. reasonable
salma ,   usa   (12.31.08)
lucky us that such reasonable people like the author of this article are looked at as insane in "Israel". It just shows how the majority of "Israeli" people can be easily fooled over and over by Olmert and his likes. what are the goals of this aggression? decrease the number of rockets fired by hamas as one of the zionist officials declared? destroy hamas? any reasonable person would know that none of such goals is achievable. so all the "Israelis" are doing here is kill and get killed. and the inevitable result will be a divine victory for hamas.
25. #22, wierd they are claiming they have loads

27. DEFEND ISRAEL FULLY
PAUL Frenkel ,   NY--USA   (01.03.09)
I REMEMBER AFTER WW2 WHEN WE HAD NO COUNTRY, NO EMBASIES AND NO-ONE REALLY STOOD UP FOR THE JEWS. "JEWS ARE NOT FIGHTERS", "JEWS ARE WEEK", "JEWS SHOULD BE MURDERED" and so on went the coments. Deal with the Hamas and the rest as you would with bandits. If they shoot into your home, catch them and lock them up or if you can not kill them before they kill you. These are the dumb, without brains and hopeless individuals. How stupid can they get? They were left with greenhouses and running businesses when Israel pulled out of Gaza. They could and should have developed it into a thriving entity. Instead, they have destroyed it andwant to kill more if we allow them. How stupid can they get?!? Let them join the thriving humanity and build an economy. Then the rest of the world will deal with them as equals. individuals.
