Gideon Reader   (12.30.08)
I know. I know. I'm a dinosaur at this stuff, but I strongly believe that a massive, boots on the ground "up close and personal"operation that actually clears of kills (aint nothing says "cut it out the attacks" like killing your enemyand breaking his stuff that he uses to kill you with)and CONQUERS territory(holding or salting it)) is the only lasting way to stop the constant low simmer hostilities, that allow a criminally oriented government(Murder is a crime, no?)from continuing it's plans and operations.
6. NO Need For A Ground Operation.
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (12.30.08)
Quote :”Gaza op won’t bring absolute end to rocket fire “. The policy of Israel should be, NOW, to answer EVERY rocket fired from Gaza Strip with a similar kind of rocket -- specifically fired on the houses of Hamas members in Gaza Strip. Let them (i.e. Hamas members) feel the fear (and destruction) the UNARMED Israeli civilians (of Sderot, other places) feel and experience. LET this policy (of equal retaliation) go on as long as rockets are being fired from Gaza Strip. BTW there will NO one in the whole world (including the Arab/Muslim world) who will object to this policy of equal retaliation. CONCLUSION : AS such, there is NO need for a ground operation. Israel should show the world that we are simply REACTING to rocket attacks, and that Israel is NOT interested in conquering Gaza Strip.
7. Stopping mid-way through a cancer operation
Roscio ,   Rome, Italy   (12.30.08)
That is the scenario Mr. Barnea is depicting here - settling for yet one more "truce". In basic Islam, a truce is only for deceiving the "infidel" enemies of Islam to hold off long enough for the Muslims to gain enough arms and strength to win. This is exactly how Mohammed won his battle with Mecca, and in Islam one must strive to imitate his example. We just saw this proven in the last six months' "truce", during which Hamas shelled Israeli citizens DAILY while turning all of Gaza into a massive offensive arsenal and terror camp, and raising a trained army of 15 - 20, 000 troops, all with the money and blessing of Iran and the UN. Operation Cast Lead must not be seen as a "negotiating chip". It is no less than a belated cancer operation. The ONLY sure guarantee of peace in southern Israel is to sweep the entire lot of terror supporters (please note that over 83% of them voted freely for Hamas and still fervently support it) into the Sinai, seal the border, and then let the worthy Jews of Gush Katif return to their rightful home. Enough of the endless charade of treaties with death-worshippers whose formally declared aim is to silt the throat of every Jew on earth.
8. Mr Barnea, people who think like you ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (12.30.08)
Are why we are in this mess.
9. you never kept a word
me ,   gaza   (12.30.08)
israel never kept a word. You violated the truce 200 times. killed 20 injured 50
10. no logic
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (12.30.08)
Barnea writes that in the previous attack, Israel killed 130 Hamas to gain a "semi lull". Barnea forgets that in the "semi lull", people died, Sderot could not lead a normal life, and houses in Ashkelon lost their value while Hamas became stronger. In fact, the previous attack and the following "semi lull" were a total failure for Israel. In "Cast Lead" people will die and Barnea won't bring them back to life. The cost of "Cast Lead" could have been used to improve Israel's eduction or health system. And in the following "semi lull" Hamas will again increase in power, Hamas orphans will join the Hamas and houses in Yavne and Ashdod will become worthless. Barnea should conclude that retreat from Judea and Samaria is suicide and that the ethnic cleansing of Gaza was a mistake.
11. Palestinians want to kill Jews from somewhere
Sam ,   Canada   (12.30.08)
The Palestinians want to replace the Jewish state or as they say "recover their lands". If the Palestinians can't kill Jews from Gaza to make their point then they will try it from the West Bank or Lebanon or anywhere else in the world. They stop attacking when their people need a break from Israeli retaliation. At this point, by waving their casualties in front of the TV or by threatening the West with civilian attacks they try to get other Arabs or the West to force war or concessions on Israel. The world has to make clear to the Palestinians that they will protect the existence of Israel so that Palestinians understand that aggression is futile. Israel has to make clear that there is a great price to pay for messing with them. Otherwise, the conflict will continue for everyone.
12. Hey compadre,...
Gideon Reader   (12.30.08)
...Maansingh, #6 in the Netherlands Have you ever fought in a war? Have you ever been in a fight? Not the schoolyard push and shove kids__t kind of stuff, but a real brawl where someone gets more than his feelings hurt? You have any theoretical or practical military education. The intelligence or security services? Somehow I do NOT think so. Proportional military response has another title. It is called "stupidity". Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Some are just dumber than others.
13. Gaza Opt will introduce only new Missle names beside Kassams
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (12.30.08)
14. He states predictions as if they were facts
Adam Eliyahu Berkowi   (12.30.08)
I am horrified that he can calmly accept kassams falling on Israeli civilian centers so long as we stop the grads. That is awful, perhaps evil, certainly innured to a situation that in any civilzation a person with any morals would find unacceptable. Or it may be that it is an accurate assesment of what our politicians are like. Acknowledging that they are willing to accept missiles falling on civilians. That is accurate, but I can never bring myself to accept that this is what must be. I would rather bite my lips for a few months until the same old tired career unenployables find some new dirty trick or combination or PR agenda to stay in those big fat comfortable leather seats that we pay for.
15. In response
Maurice ,   Dundalk, Ireland   (12.31.08)
I'm Irish, from Ireland. All sides here are talking and now there's no bombs, bullets or guerilla warfare, we had it for thirty years. No more. Is it not time ALL sides in the Middle East sat, talked and kept their word. For a change.
16. This operation will fail
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (12.31.08)
The lesson of the Lebanon war was that you cannot defeat terrorism through conventional war only unconventional war will defeat the terrorists and Moshe Yaalon said one has to destroy not only the terroristsbut the states and the supporters of terrorism namely Iran Syria and Lebanon
17. good to solve the problem
sahar ,   rafah   (12.31.08)
sure the problem is not the rockets as it is not the selfe bombing .. why do not aske about the problem to palastinians .not only to gazans .. i think here they know their problem better than israil knowing its problem .. i think by time the one who know its problem can solved it but the one who do not can have only others problems than the one he thinks it is only this one ..... are you think that this rockets is the only problem to israil
18. Nahum Barnea - Not a one-time shot
Leon Rogson ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (01.01.09)
We need to put an end to the cycle of violence, or it will eventually put an end to us. We started with home made rockets of very short range, now Beer-Sheba is within range. Similarly in the north. We are fighting an enemy who is out to kill the state and its inhabitants. Its about time we make sure it can't. Wars are not won through cease fires. They are won through surrender by a side which can no longer fight, and by making sure the next generation is not brought up by the zealots who are trying to kill us in this generation. Public trials, strict control of education, is the only way for Israel to survive this enemy. Leon
