2. peres should shut up
fish israel   (12.30.08)
This man said not long ago - Kassmim-shmassamim... now we are reaping what you sow.. no remorse, Mr Peres I guess... well, you're living in your dream New Middle East with nanotechnolgies, generously paid by the Israeli blood.
3. Who hit first? Ynet knows.
JoeP ,   Jonesville, USA   (12.30.08)
"There is not one person in the world that understands why Hamas continues to fire rockets on Israel." Ynet understands who hit first http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3560972,00.html Israel did. Those rocket attacks happened afterward. After the lull, Israel again hit off on a Nov 4 raid, where the current escalation started.
4. Why Hamas attacks...
Ken ,   SA   (12.30.08)
The reason is simple: Blind brainwashed hatred of Israel and Jews. They are taught by the Islamists to hate us from birth to grave.
5. Peres is in a simpleton
The Perescope ,   Ramat Aviv, Israel   (12.30.08)
Everyone knows why Hamas is firing rockets, except Israel's forever delusional president Shimon Peres. They want to kill as many Jews as possible and frighten the rest of us to abandon the country. It's as simple as that. In the meanwhile Peres the simpleton continues to halucinate about his New Middle East.
6. Stop it !
YOEL   (12.30.08)
We are at war, and the ennemi is Hamas. People who support Hamas are our ennemies and that's it! Most of the people in Gaza voted for Hamas, and this is their bad choice's result. I feel sorry for innocent people there, but my solidarity goes at first for MY PEOPLE in Ashdod, Askelon, Yavne, Sderot... I fully support MY SOLDIERS because they are obliged to go there and risk their lives for keeping my everyday's life safety.
7. Shimmy
Talula ,   Israel   (12.30.08)
It's clear to us Israelis that we are not fighting the Palestinian population. And if the rest of the world, even for one second, had the slightest notion that we hate Palestinians and Arabs, your pardoning of Samir Kuntar removed all doubt.
8. Who voted Hamas In
Ken ,   Be'er Sheva   (12.30.08)
If I remember there was a foreign sponsored and supervised election (including Former US president James Earl Carter). Palestine citizens overwhelmingly voted Hamas (on the fight Israel to destruction platform) into power in the PA. If this is that decision comming home to roost, so be it. Pretending that gaza's citizens are not the enemy helps no one.
9. we will win
Sharona ,   Israel   (12.30.08)
People thought that by giving parts of the West Bank like Gush Katif would bring peace all it brought were deaths to innocent citizens trying to live peacefully in their country ever since those places were given away almost every rocket that was fired into Sderot was from around Gush Katif in Gaza where terrorists are now residing why should innocent people be thrown out of their home so terrorists could live there I don't understand it the Palastinians don't want peace they want every Jew or person who is not their kind out of this world that will never happen cause we are strong and we will fight because we have a right to live in this Country! Hamas has been firing rockets into places in Israel like Ashkelon recently where Israeli Citiznes residewhich is why our army finally is fighting back to show that this is unacceptable but even though 300 or more Palatinians have been killed we should should still be on alert that Palastinians are extremely crazy and we need to be careful may the Innocent people win this war Am Yisrael Chai! If we all Pray and say Tehillim there is a chance that we will win!:)
10. Irrational ?
Sagi ,   Israel   (12.30.08)
Mr. Peres Sir, when was the last time you met with a rational Palestinian. If there ever was one they would have had a flourishing State long ago instead of complete and utter devastation.
11. Mr. Prez. I know why Hamas kept firing those rockets
Zohan ,   Tel Aviv   (12.30.08)
They just want to test your patience. Unfortunately, your patience gave them the impression that you're a weak leader. Wait, lemme guess, Hamas going to call for a truce soon and you are going to relent.
12. The Media war - UK view
Neil Turner ,   Watford, UK   (12.30.08)
First, my position: I am a Christian, based in the UK, daily praying for Israel. I also closely monitor the UK media. My observations..... - Israel getting their viewpoint across much better than usual - many in the UK are now weary of a politically correct Labour Government doing nothing about Islamic extremists in the UK, so... - public opinion more supportive of attacking Hamas - some outlets (the BBC, Channel 4 Guardian and Independent newspapers) hate Israel anyway, so no change in their highly biased reports. They merely interview those who reinforce their prejudices - some really good Israeli viewpoints being heard eg Ron Prosser (UK Ambassadeur - put Sky interviewer firmly inher place yesterday), and the new IDF Lady Spokeslady, very balanced and credible - amazingly, Al Jazeera is a good source of information, as it's much easier to read between the lines - the "proportionality" argument is being countered very well, with good examples of England/Germany in WW2, and Afghanistan helping here I know you know this, but it is vital to keep winning the media war. Many around the world are weary of the rise of the Islamists, and Israel are striking a powerful blow. This is why many of the nations are giving you leeway at present May the Lord bless you and keep you
13. thanks for killing 400 iranins
iran ,   iran   (12.30.08)
yea, thanks for killing 400 Iranians and injuring 2000
14. Deal with it.
Kev ,   London   (12.30.08)
Most of the residents in Gaza voted for Hamas, therefore it was literally only a matter of time before they bought this exact scenario upon themselves. Bad decisions have consequences. Deal with it.
15. a short explenation
miki ,   israel   (12.30.08)
Maybe you try sending your kinds to kindergarten while a missile explodes in its backyard, leaving hundred injured and terrified. Come to Sderot and our bombarded cities sometimes see how we're forced to live under terror for years, see our children suffering from traumas from the day they are born, watch them pee in their beds from fear, waking up in nightmares, their schools closed often and no education is possible, let alone other child activities as simple as playing in the back yard… Watch the people not being able to work their agricultural lands, shops and public places all closed, their towns looks like ghost towns, for years people loose their income (costs us a fortune for years, do you think the hamas took responsibility for any psychological, fiscal or financial damage?)
16. Who hit first?
ali ,   hod hasharon   (12.30.08)
JoeP, you are one ignorant idiot. when did you learn to read?
17. Stop it!
ali ,   hod hasharon   (12.30.08)
Well said no.6. My sentiments exactly.

(12.30.08)
thank you. we in israel do indeed need to hear your encouragment. thank you again. keep us posted. we are in the shekters all the time and have no computers here to see the news. just radios.
20.  Peres
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah   (12.30.08)
B"H - Peres: "Israel not fighting Palestinian population" - ABY: No, the "palestinian" population is fighting Israel.
21. They should dance for Israeli occuptaion & terror
Gee ,   USA   (12.30.08)
Actually most people around the world don't understand how long Israel can occupy Palestine after all the crimes and terror that Israel committed against Palestinians over the past 100 years. A year more than 60% of people in Europe indicated that Israel pose #1 threat to world’s security and stability, Israel is giving the proof today that it is indeed Jewish terror and Jewish occupation in Palestine that prevent peace and stability in the world.
22. Dear Shimon Peres
Vicky ,   Ashkelon Israel   (12.30.08)
We all know what started this, You and Rabin did with your signing of the Oslow Miscords. You made a one sided pact to the Arabs advantage, disregarding the fact that WE did not even get a vote on giving away our own country. You support the same in the Golan. Do you have a death wish or something? A $million Nobel Peace prize is not enough for you? You are part of what created this mayhem you should be ashamed of yourself.
23. Israel has already lost
Chanalau, Tova ,   London, UK   (12.30.08)
The generations and depth of hatred generated by its latest actions will give Israel a pyrrhic victory at best; meanwhile in the UK it gets easier and easier to persuade shoppers to not to buy Israeli produce; the only way the stuff gets sold is by disguising or hiding its origin. An ever growing number of informed people respond: "Boycott Israeli goods? Of course, I already do!"

Are you a friend of JoeP????
25. #23
ali ,   hod hasharon   (12.30.08)
I hope you never wish to return to your 'homeland" - bogedet!
26. #23 - and you are hiding in the UK - who lost?
redbourn ,   tel aviv   (12.30.08)
Every day you wake up sad! You left your homeland and live in an alien world. You attack your country and feel even worse. You sink deeper into depression. Who is the loser? Look in the mirror. I wish you well, Mike
27. # 23
Birdi ,   Tel-Aviv/London.   (12.30.08)
Chanalau, you are completely WRONG. The majority of Jews & Israelis living in England buy Israeli products which are NOT disguised at all. The Jews in UK suport Israel as much as they are able to.
28. # 21
Birdi ,   Israel   (12.30.08)
Israel made territorial acquisitions in two wars, both of which were defensive wars. The Hague second & fourth Conventions are very clear on this.If the aggressor loses territory, that territory need not be returned. It is always in the option of the victor. Both 1948 & 1967 the Arabs were the aggressor.
29. Joe and GEE
Goe and GEE ,   sss   (12.30.08)
Joe and GEE>> Go and GEE you are real people. thanks
30. No one understands...
Arjun ,   Netherlands   (12.30.08)
Why Israël seems to be disavowing its own identity. Shalom Shabbat didn't seem much worthy. Nobody wanted to talk with Hamas while they were speaking. In the end, they reacted on this and on previous Israeli attacks with rockets, just to be heard. If I choke someone, I will gat slapped in the face. Now Israel is killing the choked one while saying it wasn't willing to talk.
