1. As Nastraller says."I wouldnt have started if I knew the end
Alan ,   SA   (12.30.08)
2. Stop only when the missles cease being fired from Gaza
Daniel ,   Tel Aviv   (12.30.08)
Israel should continue attacking Gaza until Grads, Katayushas and Qassams cease being fired from there into Israel. If Israel pauses it should only be to asses how the battle is going to continue. I feel for the civilian population of Gaza, but I am more concerned about Israel's civilians. No one in Israel should have to live in fear of missiles. Six years of missiles is enough.
3. El IDF se cagó en los pantalones!
oscar ,   buenos aires   (12.30.08)
Tipical argentinian slang.
4. Pause? What Pause?
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (12.30.08)
You got your answer before you even made an offer. Now what? If a third of their rocket launchers are stashed in residential areas, do what the Allies did in WWII: Drop leaflets telling the civilians to get out and then do what needs to be done, if you ever want peace.
5. Just a cheap game to save your allies heads..
Mamud ,   South Lebanon   (12.30.08)
Now you can see how the pressure on the egyptian gorn't increasing from inside and out side. And Israel try to stop for 48 hours, maybe to cheat hamas again and surprise it, or to reduce the pressure on Egyptian govrn't. I think hamas red that well, and they have no interest in stopping the fight. I think Hamas wants to finish it once and for all (win or loose), after all it's better than living under seige.
6. And so it begins....
Danny   (12.30.08)
Why can't we just kill our enemy, why do we need to "reassess" their intentions? Why let them claim a "victory" all over again? We can crush them, why aren't we?
7. The end of Israel
Frank ,   Canada   (12.30.08)
When the military is unwilling to fight for its country, the country is dying. A truce with Hamas makes no sense at this point, this organization is very dangerous and will remain a permanent and dangerous threat to Israel which will become lethal if a major war starts. The so-called defense establishment will destroy Israel. They have launch this operation because they were afraid to lose the next election and not to defend the country and its citizens. This military and this Leftist politicians are a shame for Israel and are a more lethal threat than a nuclear Iran.
8. 1701, Gaza Style
Fast Eddie ,   Ashdod   (12.30.08)
With blood on our streets here in Ashdod, we expect the Government to finish the job it started. But, that's wishful thinking, since the same players who allowed Nasrulla to rearm and regroup with UN Resolution 1701, becoming 5 times stronger and a greater threat, will now do the same for Hamas. This gross lack of conviction and lack of faith in their mission shows the post-Zionist triumvirate of Olmert, Barak, and Livni don't even deserve Israeli passports. The blood of Irit Shitrit cries out from the sidewalk in Ashdod where she was killed last night.
9. 48 hour truce will allow Hamas to reload, Kadima worthless
Sam ,   Tel Aviv   (12.30.08)
Kadima has not allowed troops to enter to stop the rockets. Kadima has not allowed troops to go after the 300 tunnels. All a truce will do is allow Iran to smuggle in rockets that can reach tel aviv. It is a shame Bibi was not prime minister during these years. He would have toppled Hamas and done severe damage to Hezbollah. What is the worst is that the public doesn't know how weak Kadima and Labor are and are going to put the lefties back in power. This is the same Kadima who ordered the military a few years ago not to fire on militants even if they are spotted firing rockets.
10. this war will end in a disaster just like the lebanon war
chaim ,   brooklyn ny   (12.30.08)
could someone explain why after three full days of constant bombing there is only 360 enemy casualties, what the hell are they bombing? it seems that once again as in the lebanon war the IDF is forced to fight this war with one hand tied to its back, these two leftist self hating pathetic traitorous cowards,Olmert and Barak are saving the IDF's full firepower for a much more important task, for a later date when they will decide to chase out another 250,000 jews from their homes in YESHA. people of israel with this kind of leadership, you are doomed I WEEP FOR YOU ISRAEL
11. Shalit
Jay ,   United States   (12.30.08)
Don't give Hamas a cease fire without the release of Gilad Shalit
12. Israel heading down the same road of 2006 failure
Al   (12.30.08)
You have lost it as you are handing over the iniative to the enemy. No one has taugh you how to fight. I suggest you watch boxing to understand what it takes to win. You are losing and the real losers will end up being the citizens of the country.

15. hamass:"We will hold fire only when it suits us"
Arie ,   BaGolan   (12.30.08)
Barak just got his answer
16. BARAK MARAK BARAK MARAK
CIA ,   NYC   (12.30.08)
Lebanon all over! GUYS WE LOST IT AGAIN! Finish It's Over! It doesn't matter what happens next, we can clearly see where the government is heading. Guys give it up, WE LOST! I KNOW IT'S HARD TO SWALLOW BUT LETS FACE IT, IT’S THE TRUTH. UNFORTUNATELY WE LOST!
17. Sounds totally stupid
צבי   (12.30.08)
While I support humanitarian efforts, the best way to improve the situation in Gaza is for Hamas to get its collective rear end handed to it to such an extent that it can no longer hold onto power. Anything less will merely lead to a more violent and devastating war several years down the road. When you have an enemy in confusion, you don't back off and let it regroup before you send in the ground forces. DUH. Has anyone learned ANYTHING AT ALL?
18. Advice from the French, UN and EU?
Gideon Reader   (12.30.08)
Uh-oh! This is a major stupid move. Wwhen you have an enemy that is down. you kick in his teeth and ribs; and if the target exists his "nether" parts. You do NOT let him get up and catch his breath. If you are fighting fair, you need to re-asses your tactics and strategy. No one ever wond a "fair" fight. This would seem to me to be the time to ratchet up the bombing sorties and hit the secondary and tertiary targets. BDA can be done as you go. If the French, the EU and the UN are kvetching, you are winning.
19. FALSE!!

20. To broach a ceasefire at this stage suggest lack of resolve
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (12.30.08)
Did the war's planners not expect they'd reach this stage? To even suggest a ceasefire - during which Israel will cease and Hamas will continue to fire - suggests the IDF either doesn't know what to do next or fears doing so. Infrastructure can be rebuilt (no doubt at US and EU expense), and more weaponry smuggled in. Hamas has only lost some 2% of its personnel - hardly enough for them to feel weakened. Anyone broaching a ceasefire except on Israel's terms should be relieved of duty.
21. Red Light
Marcel ,   Florida   (12.30.08)
It looks like the new israel is defeated by the peace and is no longer capable of defeating her enemies. Israel is not wise in seeking permission from her false ally to defend themselves because with the green light comes a red light .Be sure that just like in Lebanon the red light will be given before Israel finishes. That is guaranteed.
22. NO WAY
Israeli ,   Israel   (12.30.08)
Why doesn't Israel learn from it's past mistakes. We just had a 'cease-fire'.
23. No No No
TC ,   Haifa   (12.30.08)
Very bad idea: We had a significant advantage, why spoiling it by giving them the time to rearm and reorganize themselves? This is not 2006: We have a serious chance to finish them, why spoil it?
24. The "bright" ideas...
TC ,   Haifa   (12.30.08)
...always come from the french diplomacy: Look what happened two years ago and who requested a cease fire with the known consequences.
25. Is there a precedent for this anywhere in history?
Adam Eliyahu Berkowi   (12.30.08)
I may be ignorant however history is full of wars and nowhere do you have the stronger nation declaring a ceasefire before any of the objectives have been achieved. This ceasefire would only serve Hamas and could lead to additional Israeli casualties, civilian and military. Israel does not have any debt to Hamas that would warrant helping them to kill Israelis. If anyone claims it is for humanitarian reasons, I can understand that. However the humanitarians should also be calling for Hamas to leave Gaza and for Egypt to open its borders.
26. Please define unilateral ceasefire
Adam Eliyahu Berkowi   (12.30.08)
Israel's political leaders are constantly raising the bar as to how bad a politician could possibly be. Now our generals are following suit. Unilateral ceasefire is a fascinating, though puzzling, concept. An individual soldier would never consider it because it would absolutely be followed by a bullet in the head. An officer would call it surrender. For some reason we are supposedc to believe that it is the expedient strategic move. Despite the kassams and grad INCREASING in range and intensity thanks wholly to the efforts of our absurd leaders. Lefties stand up and be counted. It's your fault.
27. Go go go go go go go go go go go
daniel   (12.30.08)
This is no time for truce.
28. Ceasefire?
Fred ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (12.30.08)
I think any kind of easing of the operational pace would only serve Hamas. Don't let this opportunity pass, hit them hard agin again and again. Not until Hamas and their related terror organisations can you allow a puase.
29. No Cease Fire!
Shimshon ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.30.08)
Israel shouldn't agree to any cease fire. Hamas must first release Gilad Shalit and then stop all his terror activities before there can be any talks! http://www.shimshon9.com
30. Figuring out how to lose .....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (12.30.08)
No surprise there.
