What a mensch. Hopefully, his recognition of our "subordination to... humaneness," and that "When such as large group of people wants to stay part of Judaism, the religious establishment must not ignore it," will be heard and adopted by the Israelis and the Orthodox establishment of their Rabbinute when they encounter Reconstructionist, Renewal, Reform and Conservative/Masorti Jews and their rabbis. These branches of the same tree of life deserve equal treatment in and by Israel (including equal funding and equal status in military and family law matters). At the very least, for those many Jewish Israelis whose spiritual needs are not met by the Orthodox establishment, isn't it better to make the vibrant Jewish wolrds of the other branches fully available to them rather than have them go off to India or Thailand and come back having left the Jewish community for a Hindu or Buddhist or other religion? If we were more accepting of our own diversity and allowed our young people - all of them - access to the full spectrum of what Judaism has to offer (including mysticism), perhaps our numbers would not continue dropping and those numbers (future families) might even grow. HaShem is not so small that S/He fits into only one, narrow experience/expression/way of practicing or praying. Think about it. Limiting G-d, or closing ourselves off to G-d's myriad manifestatoins is not the Jewish Way (i.e., Ha Lecha).
