9. Abu Abir is right
Jeffrey ,   Boston   (01.01.09)
when he says that Israel is distressed and defeated as proven by their bombing of empty buildings. Only way Israel wins this war is with boots on the ground and scorced earth strategy. Hamas needs to be decimated. Pinprick bombs on empty buildings is a joke. Hamastinians know Israel is afraid to go all the way and that is why they hold out.
10. Ooooh...I'm shaking, I'm so scared......Well
Rich ,   Raanana   (01.01.09)
at least HAMAS has proven that in at least in one area they have almost caught up to the 21st century...while everything else about them is still stuck deep in the 7th century...What a bunch of morons !!!!
11. Hiding behind masks is Braver than

Hiding behind 30,000 feet of distance
12. Text Message
The Phone Guy ,   Ocean, USA   (01.01.09)
This is wonderful! Hamas is rallying the faithful and improving morale by sending Jews text messages. I imagine the next step is a Facebook page called "I Think We Screwed Up - Please Don't Fight Back Anymore!"
13. Hamas responding in kind
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor   (01.01.09)
It used to be Israel's domain to be engaged in psychological warfare against the Palestinians, from 1948 to the present. The Palestinians appear to be learning the game. This does not sound like an enemy about to surrender. In fact in the realm of public opinion Hamas has made major gains. I wonder if Israel ever considered that it is not enough to have vastly superior hardware. Apparently it did not, otherwise it would not have engaged in such a stupid and cruel military action on the first day of the bombings. What happened was that soft Hamas targets, like a graduation ceremony for civilian police officers was hit and that at least 25% of the dead were innocent civilians not in any way related to Hamas. What about hitting and massacring students waiting for the school bus home. Or 5 young sisters blown to pieces by an Israeli bomb aimed at Jabalya refugee camp. It is these kind of actions, which makes Israel in the eyes of the general public a cruel and vindictive power. Can't you understand that if you want sympathy, you need to be seen acting in a way which CREATES sympathy. Also quite a few people do know that two thirds of the population of Gaza are refugees from Palestine 1948. Quite a few of these people can see from behind the wire the agricultural lands that they used to own and work until they were driven out by Israel's armed forces. When were the people of Majdal driven out? Wasn't that in 1950, a year after hostilities had ceased? All these factors play a role. History has a habit of biting you in your bottom.
14. Talula....
Jason ,   Australia   (01.01.09)
You right....They (Hamas messages) will probably be worth a bob or two, as "antiques" of hatred and psychological terrorism, when the abominable Iranian mullah agents, the Hamas terrorists are extinct, before long....,
15. They didn't call me .....

20. # 16 and all other europeans
Nir ,   Ramat Gan   (01.01.09)
As a Dutch citizen doing internship here in Israel im very ashamed for all the european people. At least those who make stupid comments about a situation they never experienced themselves... Its very simple. Get out that bubble your living in. Its easy making comments about a situation you never experienced. you know what happenes if a palestinian would throw 1 rocket anywhere in Holland or Belgium? I can assure you that at least 75 % of the people living there would take extreme measures against all the Muslims living there no matter if they are morrocan or Palestinians. I hope there will fall a Katyusha on your house someday and will wonder if you will still think bombing Gaza will be a stupid and coward thing to do...

We are a democratic state with an airforce and we have exercised our right to use it to protect citizens. We hold the sanctity of life very dear unlike the savages in Gaza.

Yes we are all very impressed with your remarkable ability to txt message. That is truly a great achievement. ALl the while your prople are hungry and dying, but its ok. Because Palestinians have finally achieved the status of a text messaging military. I am sure all of your shaheeds will be pleased.
29. GAZA - the pearl?????
jo moor   (01.01.09)
Hi Guy. Read your history, read your bible. Since biblical times Gaza has been a rotten, rotten area. Even in modern times Egypt very wisely wants nothing to do with the contued putrifaction eminating from Gaza. Rather let Israel be the one to give the aid and all the humanitarian stuff.... and then stab them in the back and kick them inthe teeth. Such good hoodlums. Let them rot.
30. #13 - Ben Alofs - Isn't this post better in Haaretz
William ,   Israel   (01.01.09)
where other Lefties and IDF service dodgers hang out? Weren't you just saying you were a doctor yesterday? Now, you're a socially-minded political analyst. Hmm, well from Sderot I can see where my family worked the fields for centuries before they ran at the advice of the iDF in 1948 due to the on-going Egyptian slaughter. Just your considering Hamas policemen as innocent shows either your deviousness and trickery or outright ignorance. Even Hamas has said that EVERY person in its ranks is trained and armed to fight if need be. Same thing seen in 2000 from PLO "policemen". Though I do agree on avoiding civilians, 88% of Israelis killed, which you blatantly ignore. You also ignore the scores of Pals killed by errant rockets (2 girls, 1 adult last week), explosives accidents, and abject violence by Hamas on any opposition. At this point, I really think we could care less what the world thinks. Because while buses blew up in Israel, suicide bombers blew apart families who were not even IDF, and rockets lobbed daily hit schools - that same world was silent, as were you. Regarding 1950 - no hostilities were not over because the Arabs rejected the 1948 resolutions which called for an immediate cessation of violence. Arabs continued, in all forms, to target Israel and Jews, including the massive illegal ethnic cleansing of Jews from Arabs land...still not addressed by the world.
