31. I've seen it all
ben ,   pittsburgh usa   (01.04.09)
A European leader who doesn't just want dead jews??? I've lived long enough to see it all. It is good to see at least the Czechs are on our side. Although if they offend France Germany and Britain, you never know what could happen.
32. Contridiction of the EU
ben ,   pittsburgh usa   (01.04.09)
The EU is nothing more than a German/French attempt to conquer politically what they could not militarily. Why is it that when Germany or France possess the EU presidency then Europe must speak with one voice on foreign policy, but when a non german/french president voices his opinion on a foreign policy, they undermine him by putting out their own government endorsed statements criticising Israel for defending itself?? The EUSSR
33. Glad to hear the Facts instead of propaganda
Michael ,   Coral Springs, USA   (01.04.09)
While UK and France are disappointing in their official stance on Israel, as usual, it is refreshing to hear the truth of the situation without the usual propagandist pro-Arab spin. Oil can't mean everything all the time, can it? Let's hear a cheer for the Czech Republic leadership!
34. Israel
sherry ,   new jersey, USA   (01.04.09)
Stay strong Israel! We are praying for you! God will not let you be destroyed.
35. #25 We'll do to Gaza what we've done to your Ussishkin!
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (01.04.09)
That is, turn it into a parking lot, whether you pathetic Hapoel fans like it or not. Your loser team is history, and so is the popularity of your ridiculous political views.
36. #25 I beg to differ
Jonathan Levi ,   Israel   (01.04.09)
You seek diplomacy??? With who? Hamas? Well... I seek diplomacy with Hitler. I seek diplomacy with Stalin. I don't disagree with you that we're all afraid for our troops, so I propose that we should have disarmed in 1948 so that we would spare the loss of 1% of the Jewish population of Israel. I also propose we reprimand the Allies for causing civilian casualities. Hamas refuses to allow this to be any other way. They could care less for their civilians. Yet their civilians let their hatred overtake their common senses and ability to oust these dogs. What your doing is proposing a dualism and trying to ascribe a democratic spirit to a facist movement. No matter how hard you delude yourself the objective truth is that Hamas is not a partner for peace, and Fatah is not far behind. So asides from naying everything you don't agree with, I propose you suggest a solid alternative. Talking to a facist is not one. Even Begin could not talk sense into Hitler. You're asking Israel to beg a wolf not to eat her. What will you promise the wolf Ussishkin? McDonalds?
37. czech republic

schwarzenburg-- you will be getting out of here when the rapture happen's,,, may JESUS bless you... amen to Czech
38. To #25
Linda ,   Portland, OR, USA   (01.04.09)
Why do you think a woman who uses her womb to incubate a human land mine is a non-combatant? Who do you think sews the suicide vest - the bomber or his wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, or other female relative? The wife of a jihadist is, I guarantee you, a jihadist, too. Don't waste your tears.
39. #31 Ben
Franco ,   Roma, Italia   (01.04.09)
"...It is good to see at least the Czechs are on our side. Although if they offend France Germany and Britain, you never know what could happen." Ben, Czechs have unfortunately learned from their own experience, when Chamberlain & Daladier sold them to Hitler...
40. We need more people who tell the truth!!
ISZ ,   BC Canada   (01.04.09)
People everywhere who appreciate honesty thank the new E.U president sincerely. Everyone has the "luxury" of telling the truth..however, 99% of world reporters and so-called-"leaders" are nothing but cowards--who refuse to tell the truth, and choose instead to support a terrorist organization while islamists slowly take over Europe as well. Is it just me, or has honesty taken a vacation???? The world would be a better place - and a safer one as well, if world leaders would come out publicly, support Israel fully, and condemn Terrorist organizations like Hamas.
41. The states demanding that Israel adhere to certain moral...
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (01.04.09)
The states demanding that Israel adhere to certain moral standards do not even dream of asking the same of her enemies. Why do the countries of the world and global media outlets obsessively engage in strict criticism that is only directed at Israel? After all, there is not even one country out there that is required to adhere to the moral criteria which the world demands of us – of us of all people, the ones who as opposed to the rest of the world face threats of extermination. Israel had no choice but to attack Hamas as explained at : http://xrl.us/bea2zx
42. israel
seva ,   chicago/ usa   (01.04.09)
let's put an end to it once and forever. enough is enough. how long can they fire their rockets over the heads of peace loving people of israel.
43. So refreshing to see a man with a backbone and not scared!
Lyn ,   USA   (01.04.09)
Wow, what a breath of fresh air Foreign Minister Schwarzenberg is! I love his statement, "Why am I one of the few that have expressed understanding for Israel? ... I am enjoying the luxury of telling the truth." It truly is so nice to hear the truth when there has been SO many years of lies and propoganda. This is 2009 and people aren't falling for all the garbage these people are spewing anymore. Israel has a right to defend her people and everyone knows that. It really makes some of these leaders look ridiculous when they try to demonize Israel knowing full well that they are within their rights to protect themselves. Now if we could only get a few more leaders like Foreign Minister Schwarzenberg that has the guts to tell it like it is!
44. Finally someone is being logical
Hayley ,   winnipeg canada   (01.04.09)
45. #Ignorance about how EU works
mark ,   Jerusalem   (01.04.09)
This was a "presidency statement". That means it is a bilateral statement by the Czechs. It does not represent the view of the entire EU. That would need to be a joint statement. The EU statement will be a lot more critical of Israel. UK and France may be "only two out of 27" but if you knew anything about European politics you would realise that only four or five countries actually count. And the Czech Republic, needless to say, isn't one of them!
46. UK and Israel
Peter Stockwell ,   Cambridge, UK   (01.04.09)
I am so glad the Czech EU presidency supports Israel. There are many non Jewish people in the UK who do the same. It is just that our Government and media never stops supporting the Muslin minority.
47. note
daniel ,   canada   (01.04.09)
We must not forget that being a survivor or a co-religionist of the victims of the European Holocaust does not grant dispensation from abiding by the rules of humanity. http://www.indcatholicnews.com/speech.html
48. good, but good enough?
tom ,   toronto, canada   (01.04.09)
while it is certainly a relief to hear that not all the eurabians support hamas, there is one dangerous aspect to this declaration: mr schwarzenberg implies that the casus belli was not the rocket fire itself, but the sharp escalation since december 19. this is problematic, because ANY rocket attacks into israel are an act of war, and firing rockets at civilians without military purpose is ALWAYS a war crime. his implication that the previous pattern of no more than a dozen attacks a day was somehow acceptable is seriously wrong. it leads to the conclusion that israel should accept a future ceasefire, even if hamas continues to attack, albeit at the previously "accepted" levels. mr schwarzenberg needs to rethink his statement!
49. EU money goes to weapons , not the peoples wellbeing
gaza use the money ,   wisely for wellbeing   (01.04.09)
EU has poured a lot of money into gaza. it was not used to end the misery ( they claim citizens suffer) of the gaza people. it all goes into weapons to attack israeli civilians, and probably into leaders pockets, same as Arafat did. if all that money would have been used for education, (not of hatred ), into industry, housing, health, there would be work, wealth , and and in general a good life for the gazans. and the today war wouldnt occure. gazas people, demand of your leaders your right to live a normal peaceful life in gaza.
50. #48
Pierre ,   Valleyfield, Canada   (01.04.09)
Totally agree with you. BTW, not all Quebecers support Hamas, some like me despise them.
51. # 46 Peter Stockwell
Petra ,   usa   (01.04.09)
the UKs disdain for Jews is probably why the sun barely risis on England.
52. #45 Mark from Jerusalem
Franco ,   Roma, Italia   (01.04.09)
"...only four or five countries actually count. And the Czech Republic, needless to say, isn't one of them! " ...But Germany (Over 80 millions of citizens + the biggest GNP in the Union) and Italy (nearly 6o millions of citizens + fourth biggest GNP in the Union) ARE. And both countries have clearly stated that Israel is exercizing her self-defence right.
