1. Does France really want this terrorist outfit to remain
AmenOtep ,   bc canada   (01.06.09)
Why not topple the hamas regime so called? Is it that France does not want it to be toppled? Why am I thinking it does not, and yet most countries agree that this outfit is nothing short of a terrorist organization which of course it is. Is France not supposed to be with the US in its fight against terror? No matter how the arguments turn, anyone that doesn't want this thing completely destroyed is toying with more trouble later on. Guaranteed!

Bill Foonman ,   Jacksonville, USA   (01.06.09)
Why not? They are worthless garbage the world would be better off without.

6. Caroline Glick was right after all
bob ,   potomac usa   (01.06.09)
Olmert, Livni and Barak's govt by saving Hamas will be handing Hamas a victory
7. olmert
marcel   (01.06.09)
The less olmert says the better. Incredibly, Erdogan said that olmert begged him for direct talks with assad. Olmert said he would silence the hawks. Thankfully, barak is carrying the ball with 2 other generals. Olmert is extremely weak and races to concessions. No, you tell France we are defending ourselves and don't give any assurances. Don't brag, say as little as possible. This whole business of the north and south and the 2 wars is because of olmert , because he is so weak, he invited aggression from arabs. So olmert, don't talk too much.
8. Hamas, Hizbullah, Islamic Jihad, al-Qaeda
Wisconsin Marshall ,   USA   (01.06.09)
Sarkozy, ils sont les memes choses.
9. Why the hell are you promising that???
William ,   Israel   (01.06.09)
That would be my number #1 goal, besides having Zahar's head on my wall. That is, of course, if the goal is really to castrate Hamas and turn them into little ladies who handle social issues rather than war mongers, then it's ok. They already have dresses that fit them.
10. of course he wont topple them,he is one of them
chaim ,   brooklyn ny   (01.06.09)
this traitorous criminaly insane leftist pathetic coward, has been working with israel's enemies from day one
11. ALREADY MAKING MISTAKES?
dp   (01.06.09)
ending Hamas rule in the strip is what you should do, why are you risking Jewish lives in the first place if not to change the current status quo? do you think Hamas will change its ways after this? if so you have no business leading this nation.
12. Don't topple them...
Jeffrey ,   Boston   (01.06.09)
kill them!
13. Its not that they don't want to topple Hamas
Stu   (01.06.09)
It is that they have learned not to have too big goals and state them loudly, like they did in Lebanon in 2006. All it would take is for a single Hamas person to survive and Hamas would claim victory by saying "See, we are still here". So they keep their objectives a little less concrete, a little less definite, and a little wider, "Change the security situation in the South" and Israel can claim a victory. Its much smarter than last time.
14. it's really "Game Over"
Mark Katzman ,   S.F., CA   (01.06.09)
Frankly, I don't see, now, how Israel can win and I'm at a loss for words as to how the leadership was so blind as to allow things to come to this: a sovereign country will now be held hostage to a band of thugs armed with weapons that can damage not only Dimona, but Rehovot as well! And, who will Israel strike when that happens? They can't even protect their citizens. And they will certainly leave hamas intact enough to rebuild stronger and with deadlier missiles. Checkmate-Israel can't win. Nice going rabin, barak, olmert-you killed your country.
15. Olmert
Jason Alster ,   Zichron Yacov Israel   (01.06.09)
The reason Israel has all these problems today is that she gave back lands to the Arabs without an apology from them for trying to throw Israel into the sea in 1948. If there was no accountability then , why should there be any now.
16. That is why we would always have wars at our borders
Jewish Refugee ,   U.S.A.   (01.06.09)
because of people like Olmert, Livni, Peres, Rabin, Barack to some degree Benyamin Netanyahu. Because they don't understand that the wealth of Muslim world will swallow Israel, thus they can fight forever. Their only purpose (Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and so forth) is to destroy Israel. When are we going to understand this? We need leaders that fight to the victory, hell with world opinion they hate Jews anyway. For more please visit: http://israelactnow.blogspot.com/
17. Olmert showing total stupidy again.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (01.06.09)
18. How much?
David ,   USA   (01.06.09)
Are they just shaking hands or did I see an envelope being passed? If it is big enough maybe Olmert will keep his word.
19. Any cease fire in which Hamas is left standing will be
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (01.06.09)
perceived by Hamas, the Arabs and the world as a Hamas victory. I can't believe Israeli leadership is too stupid to figure that out.
20. Demographics
Aaron ,   Philadelphia, USA   (01.06.09)
The vast majority of Palestinians living in Gaza would permanently leave if they could. Israel has been doing everything it could in the last few years to bar them from leaving. Imagine the Strip having only a few hundred thousand Arabs instead of a million (don't believe those figures of 2 million). Israel could then retake the area, resettle it and eventually annex it.
21. Cleared from Qassams.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (01.06.09)
Hamas should be beaten to the ground and, as the PLO was evacuated from Beirouth after the 1st Lebanon war, Hamas should be evacuated from the Gaza Strip to Iran, Sudan or Tunisia. That is the only chance, to be cleared from the Qassams. Consult : http://xrl.us/bebh94
22. Hamas
zznhl   (01.06.09)
The fall of Hamas would certainly be a considerable bonus though - Especialy for the residents of Gaza.
23. Destroy al of Hamas
Yehudi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.06.09)
It is extremely necessary to completely eliminate Hamas. We must destroy the evil in our midst!
24. Even Ramon (convict) and Yishai have a clock that is right
Ben Temalion ,   Shiloh, MO USA   (01.06.09)
..at least twice a day. At least they abstained, but why not vote against it if so much is risked for little temporal gain? Vice Premier Haim Ramon and Industry, Trade and Labor Minister Eli Yishai were the only two cabinet members to abstain from voting in favor of a ground incursion in Gaza in Friday's special cabinet meetings. The two reportedly refrained from casting a yea vote, after their demand to include toppling Hamas' regime in the Strip in the operational goals of the incursion was denied.
25. Hamas
Ilana   (01.06.09)
Should be wiped out totally- it is the devil
26. Why On Earth Would France Want Hamas to Stay?
Mike Sless ,   Israel   (01.06.09)
Why On Earth Would France Want Hamas to Stay? That makes no sense unless France wants a terror group with an army placed at Israel's doorstep? Could it be that it does want precisely that?
27.  A fool till the end...
PatriotUSA ,   Oregon, USA   (01.06.09)
The bumbling and stumbling gov't of olmert/livini continues and what a dumb thing to state. The goal should be the ruin of hamas in gazastan, period. Why give these islamofacist cowards a victory of any sort. Eliminating hamas should be paramount next to ridding the strip of any way to launch any attacks against Israel. Missles, bomb strapped murderers, take them all out while Israel can. Otherwise the same results will just yield more of the same, non stop terror attacks against Israel and the Jews.
28. This is new .... here we go
(01.06.09)
Olmert started going back with his voice .... the sound of Lebanon's war is comeing back .... seams the mental victory for Hammas is near .... hmmmm this will be interesting .
29. HAHAHA
Salameh ,   Gaza, Palestine   (01.06.09)
Really? You started by saying situation will be changed forever, and then we will Stop it all, and now yo do and don't hahaha you would if you could, but the bitter truth is YOU CANNOT. You failed in 11 days to move in a CENTIMETETER in Gaza and God willing you will not.
30. Toppling Hamas is not the goal?
Nick ,   Devon, PA USA   (01.06.09)
Then why bother? Why waste precious life on both sides? What is, in fact, the objective? In light of such statements, it's clear that this will end just like 2006 in Lebanon--badly.
