2. HORRIFIC !!!!!!!!! :(
3. This is because Olmert has the troops stationary
Seth ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (01.06.09)
Olmert doesn't have the troops on the move into gaza city he has them stationary and leaving them as targets not allowing them to move into the city. Olmert also hasn't allowed one troop to enter rafah to take out the 600 tunnels. Kadima is a disaster. Bibi wanted to take out all the tunnels in rafah.
MIKE   (01.06.09)
HAARETZ has a different story claiming that Hamas had fired a mortar shell on the wall where the IDF soldiers were hiding.

Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (01.06.09)
IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) systems are designed to prevent such tragic mistakes. Sadly, such systems are not perfect. May this be the only such incident in this conflict. Condolences to the families of the fallen. We wish a speedy recovery for the injured.

During the month of Tevet, three fast days are observed, the 8th, 9th and 10th of the month, in commemoration of three major calamities which befell the People of Israel. The fast days of the 8th and 9th of Tevet are called 'fast-days-for- the-righteous,' as on these days, only individuals who choose to, fast, WHEREAS THE FAST OF THE 10th OF TEVET IS A PUBLIC FAST OBLIGATING THE ENTIRE JEWISH COMMUNITY! On the 10th of Tevet, Nevuchadnetzar, King of Babylonia, laid siege to Yerushalayim. And now, O Israel, hearken unto the statutes and unto the ordinances, which I teach you, to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which HaShem, the G-d of your fathers, giveth you. Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish from it, that ye may keep the commandments of HaShem your G-d which I command you. Deut. 4:1-2 All this word which I command you, that shall ye observe to do, thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it. Deut. 13:1+ Add thou not unto His words, lest He reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. Remove far from me falsehood and lies, give me neither poverty nor riches, feed me with mine allotted bread, Proverbs 30:6,8 Remove from me the way of falsehood, and favor me with Your Torah. Amen. Psalm 119:29 AZAMRA: Torah For Our Time

Peter Morris ,   New Zealand   (01.06.09)
Anyone who is part of this crime of our times deserves no sympathy at all. Particularly in years to come when senior Israeli officials end up in jail.
13. oh my god, oh my god
there had to be coordination. between the brigade and the tanks operating in such close proximity. there was obviously a confusion, a break in communication. my god, my god!!!
14. #1
there were many many such incidences when the usa troops operated in iraq, quwait. many soldiers were shot dead by friendly fire. to imagine that hamas may have done it, is ludicrous! i would believe israel before arab statements in a heart beat. arabs are not known for honesty and for boasting about their non existent "victories". do you know they still celebrate the 1973 was as their victory????? we decimated and encircled their armies, totaled the syrian military and surrounded the egyotian army which had no food or water.....after they gave us a little bit of a beating in the beginning. however, egypt and russia were screaming bloody murder when the war in 73 turned into an israeli victory. we were 20 miles from damascus and 45 miles from cairo...and marching on. until the un saved the arabs' asses collectively and forced insrael into a cease fire. if they didn't do that, we and the many damascus arabs could have had a nice tea together. don't you know that cese fires always save the arab countries????

18. amos harel
alexi   (01.06.09)
This journalist of haaretz absolutely defines neville chamberlain. Sure, the friendly fire incident is difficult and some of these will happen. So, Harel suggests by analogy the russians should not have pursued hitler in berlin because they took thousands of casualties. What a shmuck! Barak is not stupid. IDF will be careful, will pick its spots and will likely not enter en masse but in selected areas after having cleansed the area. Harel, you want missiles at ben gurion? What a coward!!Hamas cannot be placated, it has to fought like hitler. Casualties are difficult, no question about it. I have suggested sleeping gas canisters and other methods like giant bombs and big rockets but the IDF does not want to do it. Aysmmetric my firends-incendiaries, rockets, gas, human shields.
19. Dear me! It seems like the lot of you are sad
GUH   (01.06.09)
Don't see many of you like this when the Palestinian civilians are killed en masse... those cases you're looking for excuses to somehow blame Palestinian civilians themselves for your armies misgivings... and lo and behold! The same excuse makers are not here, blaming the three dead here for their deaths... anybody with an explanation (and without an insult-filled rant? I'm a little sensitive... he he he!)
20. IDF has mistaken them as civilians in Pali home
