31. "Those who live in glass homes should not throw rocks"
Murray of Montreal   (01.06.09)
What is hapening in Gaza was inevitable. It is payback time. Perhaps the Gazans will finally come to the realization that peace is preferable to war? Somehow I believe that the Palestinians are too brainwashed to make peace, but if they wish to have more of the same, I most certainly hope that they get it as eventually they will see the light!
32. 60 Tons
avi ,   gaza   (01.06.09)
Hamas stockpiled 60 TONS of weapons. For the same price they could have bought 60,000 TONS of food ( bread, milk) for their civilians and babies. This shows how much they REALLY care about their kids
33. To John- remember pali hides in civilians
Salvador ,   USA   (01.06.09)
34. Lack of credibility
Botafogonisso ,   Brasil   (01.06.09)
I think Jpost should confirm this "incident" with IDF. UN officials and Gazans journalists are in territory controlled and ruled by terrorists. So, I think, they will never put their lives in danger telling the true details. Why AFP does not show the terrorists corpses? Or why they do not show the terrorists firing assassin rockets towards Israeli civilians?
35. Truth is yet determined
Claude Edelson ,   chicago usa   (01.06.09)
So far, we do not know if this was done by the IDF. We also do not know what was in that building. If the IDF hit it, perhaps a bigger explosion occurred because of what was in the building. Perhaps Hamas did this as propaganda - similar to past wars.
36. Casualties
Harris ,   West Palm Beach, USA   (01.06.09)
The Palesinian propaganda machine is working overtime to indicate that all casualties are civilians. That is wildly unlikely and the numbers are absurd. However, once again, Israel has been slow to refute the Palestinian claims. Regardless, when you fight a war against a terrorist organization that hides behind women and children, civilian deaths are unavoidable, but still regrettable.
37. To Arie #18: don't talk nonsense.
Citizen ,   IL   (01.06.09)
This has nothing to do with switching allegiances. I am a human being and I do not want to see our supposedly moral army killing women and children, unintentionally as it might be. Not every message coming out of Gaza is terrorist propaganda; surf the web a little and get yourself informed about what's going on there. We have become so insensitive to the other side's suffering that I fear for our society's future. This bullshit argument about human shields is recycled time after time and losing its credibility. It doesn't make what's going on there any less bad. If at least this war would end with a clear victory for us (which it can't), then maybe all these people wouldn't have died for nothing. If wanting to see an end to this horrible bloodshed means me not being a great Israeli patriot, then so be it.
38. Its OK when Hamas aim at schools?
Gerry ,   IL   (01.06.09)
The difference is the IDF are trying to stop the years of terror and killing civilians. Hamas wants to kill all civilians including women and children and celibrates when it does!
39. Repeat of Lebanon setup?
Regardt ,   South Africa   (01.06.09)
I smell a rat! This is what HAMAS/Arabs world were looking for to increase Int pressure and hate for Israel. Somehow i don't think this was the IDF, it could be a rehearsal of what Hezbollah did in Lebanon blowing up their own building with civilians inside. Don't judge to soon please...
40. to the thin skinned world
dov   (01.06.09)
Hamas fired a rocket the other day which hit a kindergarden. And unlike this possible mishap, it was actually intentional.
41. This Is a War Crime
Jerry ,   NYC, USA   (01.06.09)
And support for Israel across the world by many, including Jews such as myself, is going to decline a lot.
42. hamas rockets own building
mohson   (01.06.09)
hamas rocketed building that its own terrorists mingled among civilians. It was a legitamate target. The numbers are inflated.
43. Grad-uate degree.
Gideon Reader   (01.06.09)
The alleged "civilians" hiding in the U.N.school appear to reports to be either small children with special needs, pregnant women, of elderly pensioners, rather than street gunman Hamasniks. One missile did not cause that U.N.school to collapse. Secondary explosions indicate that contrary to the U.N.claims, they are an active and enabling participant on the side of the Palestinian residents (not citizens) who hide among their explosive toys. As Hamas Izz-a-dum Hamas General Fawzi al Gump says: "Dumb is as dumb does". "hey Boys and Girls. Lets hide under those nifty rockets.
44. This, unfortunately, is what Hamas waited for
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (01.06.09)
I'm waiting to read what the IDF has to say about this incident, but it's not the IDF way to target civilians. My best guess is either faulty intel or, more likely, an errant shell. Artillery simply doesn't have the accuracy of smart bombs, so it raises the question why this was used. But even as we're saddened and troubled by this news, Hamas is thrilled! They've been anxiously awaiting a mass civilian casualty to bring increased pressure on Israel to halt its operations. It's happened before. It's like a wicked "heads I win, tails you lose" game. If the IDF chooses not to attack, say, a weapons store with civilians nearby, Hamas wins. If the IDF strikes such a target, even unwittingly, Hamas still wins.
45. Fight on to victory!
David Samson ,   Toronto, Canada   (01.06.09)
This is a tragedy. However, when the Palestinians voted for Hamas knowing full well their platform of genocide and existential war against Israel, they had to know this was the inevitable consequence. Despite all the safeguards, in war their are friendly fire and civilian victims. It was Hamas who chose war, and it is they who are responsbile. Fight on to victory!
46. John Europe your the one that needs to shup up
Mike ,   Israel   (01.06.09)
This is war, its Hamas who chose to hide behind there kids, its Hamas who chose to shoot rockets to land where ever they land and sometimes on kindergardens, I dint see your feed back when that happened. If Hamas where true fighters as they continue to claim they would save there kids and come out from behind them and fight like men. But realty as it is they chose to be mice and hide behind there kids in the hopes that the IDF will bomb there hiding place and kill the kids its the only way they can stay alive.
47. Terry in Chicago, of all the idiots who share there opinion
Mike ,   Israel   (01.06.09)
here your the one that is most strange. Your army is dealing with the same animals we are dealing with your young men and women are dying in the hands of these terorists and yet you come here and spread you BS. Your the one who is sick and there is truly no place on this earth for an idiiot like you who does not understand anything about anything
48. To #6
Teknarik ,   US   (01.06.09)
Terry is right, however. Hamas choses to hide in civilian buildings and so they bring death and destruction of their own along with them. No matter how painful it is to see and hear about loss on either side, this is unavoidable. HAMAS is the one to blame for recklessly disregarding their families lives by hiding behind their wives skirts. Defiant or not, a missle will find you no matter where you are!
49. innocents get killed?
rsb ,   United States   (01.06.09)
who supports hamas?....who voted for hanas?....who wants to destroy israel and kill as many jews as possible. who shoots their missles at israel's civilians? who marches in the street when a jew is killed as they pass out sweets to celebrate? who holds Gilad shalit? Who works for Iran?
50. All war has tragedy
Gary ,   Los Angeles   (01.06.09)
None of it makes sense. However, Hamas must become civilized and accept Israel's right to live !!!!
51. Gaza is a graveyard for HAMAS and the women that love them
Big Moe ,   Sderot   (01.06.09)
The IDF is playing my song!!!! YA Gaza what has Tehran brought upon you?
52. School could have been attacked by hamas for propaganda
Johnny ,   Stockholm Sweden   (01.06.09)
Hamas have previously at numerous occasions shown their willingness to sacrifice their population for propaganda purposes. I would not be surprised if it shows that the IDF hasn't attacked this school at all.
53. hamas probably blew it up themselves
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (01.06.09)
in order that Israel gets the blame
54. IDF to stop for awhile
Sandro ,   Italy   (01.06.09)
That's enough! Do not use more violence on the defenceless population. Stop for some day and watch if rockets will fly again. Please let that people have one more chance
55. CRIMINALS AND MENTALLY ILL !
Paul ,   Paris, France   (01.06.09)
That's all you are ! Wake up before it is to late, please !
56. Hass said;
observer   (01.06.09)
This is the time to speak about the detailed maps in the hands of IDF commanders, and about the Shin Bet advisers who know the exact distance between the mosque and nearby homes. This is the time to discuss the drone planes and the hot air balloons fitted with advanced cameras floating over the Strip day and night, filming everything.
57. REAL terrorists (using F16s & tanks) in the mideast exposed
Texas ,   USA   (01.06.09)
to attack UN centers just as they did in Lebanon a few years ago. They were Terrorists in in 1930s, 40s, 50s,..,90s, and today. Actually, Israel is setting many examples today that it will be getting from the other side in the future. Bush's mentality will disappear from US political scene in the near future.
58. International benchmarks
AJ ,   Here   (01.06.09)
Afghanistan 2008: 500 civilians killed in Coalition airstrikes in Afghanistan over a year (source: Human Rights Watch). Where is the outrage? Lebanon June 2008: Lebanese army bombards Palestinian "Refugee Camps" - hundreds killed. Where is the outrage? It's only when Jews defend themselves that the world goes mad. Screw all of you who hate us... we're still here, we're successful, we're strong and we don't give a damn what you think.
59. #6 John, somewhere in Europe.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.06.09)
Hamas is the effective ruler of Gaza. Theoretically, they are responsible for the well-being of Gazans. Their actions & policies should reflect this responsibility, also theoretically. Now Hamas has been shooting missiles at Israeli civilian targets for many years. Not long ago, Hamas canceled the ceasefire & increased the number of missiles it shoots at our civilians. They knew this would provoke a reaction eventually. They know what happens in war. They know that Gaza is crowded & that by provoking an Israeli military response they would endanger the civilian population. Yet, they made that conscious decision to endanger their civilians. Hamas is supported by the majority of Gazans. Polls indicate not only support for Hamas but majority support for missile attacks. Hamas, by it's position as ruler of Gaza deliberately provoked a conflict which it KNEW 100% would cause civilian casualties. In this environment, it is impossible to conduct military operations without collateral damage. Our own soldiers have just been killed in the ''fog of war'' - also called ''friendly fire''. Hamas, by it's actions, in complete disregard of their responsibility for their own people, is also responsible for the consequences. And I don't see any logical connexion between events in Gaza & anti-Semitic acts in France.
60. Oh, and by the way, John in Europe.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.06.09)
There is no independant verification of the details & this may come as a surprise to you, but it has been known to occur that many incidents too numerous to mention have been invented, proven to be fraudulant, exagerated, or otherwise un-true. This may or may not be the case here but it does not change the responsibility for the incident. Hamas is the guilty party.
