1. Let her stay home! who cares!
Oleg   (01.15.09)
2. Who cares?
Luana ,   Italy   (01.15.09)
Who cares of this singer? She could stay at home if she wants. Maybe, instead of singing at the Eurovision, she could dress a black chador, follow the sharia and be beaten like a dog by her husbands. We have the possibility of choice.
3. Arab intellectuals?
Henny Penny   (01.15.09)
Another one for the Middle East List of Oxymorons
4. They say
Robert J Owen ,   UK   (01.15.09)
<> Well maybe the arabs should also try to be democratic, enlightened and peace loving people and the west would support them too. Look arabs, try it, if it doesn't work, you can always go back to being barbarians
5. Ending the West's Proxy War Against Israel - WSJ.com

6. Very true in both respects, Robert.
Kev ,   London   (01.15.09)
7. Good PR
Mark ,   Maale Adummim   (01.15.09)
Whats the IBA talking about of course the Eurovision is political one can see by who votes for who. I think this Israel-Arab should remain in the competition and sing a song about how the hospital beds and Israeli Universities are filled with Arabs. That's something that no BBC news program shows its just about killing innocent Arabs and how we hate them. If we hate them so much then we would not give them an education and let them get sick and die.
8. Never heard of her and probably wont
Petra ,   usa   (01.15.09)
she's damned if she does and damned if she doesn't. If she's a no show, zip for her career, if she does show up, she's a dead duck. Some choice for "enlighted' arab entertainment. I guess the war will have to suffice for now. Wonder how she likes being threatened by her pals?
9. Who will vote for Israel anyway
(01.15.09)
in Eurabia. What a joke!
10. you are all funny
(01.15.09)
When any is against you you answer ... who care ... what you care about ... you are not alone in this world and without the others you are nothing , without america and England you would not be exist , you are nothing beside the others ... but anyhow with this way you are digging the grave of Israel and this is good .... go on
11. Eurovision
Robert Stewart ,   Kidmat Zve, Israel   (01.15.09)
It's important to sing in the Eurovision because Mira Awad represents the people. Politics produce hate on both sides of the spectrim mostly the Left. Keep the politics out and let music heal. We need healing in this nation not hate!
12. She should do what she wants to
Tom ,   Tel-Aviv, IL   (01.15.09)
And by the way, are Arab intellectuals interested only in Eurovision ?????? Man, this would explain a lot about their advances in science...
13. Eurovision is a joke anyway
Nik ,   London   (01.15.09)
It stopped being about the music long ago, I wish the UK would pull out as it's an embarassing to be involved in.
14. Never heard of her? You are missing out!
Yael ,   Tel Aviv   (01.15.09)
Mira Awad has an incredible talent and beautiful voice. As does Noa. Israel and Israelis are proud to have two such amazing women representing us. You go girls! You rock.
15. LIFE MEAN SHARING TO ME. EVEN IN PAIN. GO SING YOUR POEMS.
ATİLLA KARAGÖZOĞLU   (01.15.09)
16. Arab Apartheid
Fed Up ,   Barcelona   (01.15.09)
This self-righteous intransigence and refusal to recognize other Israelis as their equals is horrifying. Also horrifying is the fact that Israel gets accused of "apartheid," while Arab intolerance, arrogance, and bigotry has been the root cause of this conflict since, at very least, the 1920's.
17. To understand this, reverse the situation.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.15.09)
Let's say that we reverse the situation. Instead of ''Arab intellectuals'' asking Miss Awad to withdraw, let's imagine that Israeli Jews objected to an Arab representing Israel. What would be the reaction of the ''Arab intellectuals''???? You know & I know (and so does Ynet) that these hypocrites would be jumping up & down crying apartheid, racism, discrimination, & all the other BS that has become their typical response. We can turn all of their arguments around - and apply them to Hamas. But the bottom line is that no matter what the issue & no matter what we do, these phonies & hypocrites will indulge in Israel-bashing. Are these ''intellectuals'' or just intellectually dishonest?
18. Leave her alone!
Esti ,   Poleg   (01.15.09)
What a bunch of jealous nasty characters! Leave her alone! You have all made it and have your careers and begrudge this young talent her chance of success. I wish Mira Awad all the best in her career. Her political opinions are her business and she can express them at the Kalpi as do all Israeli citizens. It's called democracy. As for her career, good luck to her! I hope she doesn't let these bullies get the better of her!
19. If you need a clearly logical analysis read Terry
Nora ,   Tel Aviv   (01.15.09)
Terry, someone has to thank you for your always accurate and clear " bull`s eye" analysis of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Keep reacting for the sake of Israel.
20. it's a shame
fish israel   (01.15.09)
So-called Arab intellectuals and Jewish leftists actually encourage further alienation of Arabs in Israel. Please don't balme this poor girl, she's caught between the hammer and the anvil, all she probably wants is to perform and enjoy it, but shameless people want to rob her of her career and achievements. I can only wonder if these "intellectuals" really represent the Arab voice in Israel ,and how much harm they are doing to their equality, for which as they declare they are fighting. This is a reversed discrimination, and as such - outrageous. I would sue the undersigned. Especially the liar Bakri, and hasn't he been sued already? Or only a Jewish girl, who drew a cartoon of Mohammed, must go to jail for incitement to hatred? Israeli legal system has become a parody.
21. Israel allows plenty of opportunities for it's Arab citizens
GZ ,   USA   (01.15.09)
Her mother is Bulgarian. Mira Studied music in Rimon school for Jazz and contemporary music in Tel-Aviv. Has a successful career as an actress and singer. She is a living proof that Israel allows plenty of opportunities for it's Arab citizens.
22. AS a intellectual I support a boycott on Isreli music
Yaakov Sullivan ,   NYC   (01.15.09)
23. #5 She has a great voice but not very sexy
Yaakov Sullivan ,   NYC   (01.15.09)
24. you are funny
hhhh ,   ny,ny   (01.15.09)
we were around before the US and UK we will continue to exist , all the country''s like the germans and poland and arab country's had tried to destroy the jews and israel all dug there graves so who cares if an arab represents israel they only represnts them self
25. Miri Awad
Lou ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (01.15.09)
She's a Chjristian Arab, and if her mother is Bulgarian, then she is only half an Arab. And anyway, Hamas and Arab Muslums don't like Christians, look at what happened at Bethlehem, nearly all the Christians have left and gone some place elsewhere.
26. #22
Haya ,   Eretz Yisrael   (01.15.09)
How dare you talk when your fag friends attack churches for their stand against Proposition 8!!
27. #22, AS an intellectual maybe you should learn how to spell
Rachael ,   Israel   (01.15.09)
who listens to israeli music except israelis anyway? i used to be a DJ for israeli music- the market is so small that your "intellectual" boycott will have as much success as your ability to win a spelling bee
28. #22 - Yaakov - Stick to the anti-semetic Haaretz talkbacks
William ,   Israel   (01.15.09)
This isn't your venue - it's too objective. Find a place where you, and other self-proclaimed intellectuals, can sit and pontificate on the ills of the world and how only you have the answer for them. By the way, it's not very intelligent to boycott music, art, or academia being these are the only forms of communication that are mostly free from political bias...unless of course you're at Islamic U. in Gaza (isn't that like PenncoTech in NYC?)
29. #21 - GZ - which is why they pressure her to boycott
William ,   Israel   (01.15.09)
The last thing the Arabs need now is for a successful Israeli-Arab to display the equality she's received in a country that both the media and Arabs have tried to vilify and condemn as an "apartheid" regime. By keeping Arabs upset and keeping Pals poor and destitute, the hateful minions control the masses and continue to spread hatred of Israel globally. Yet, their sons and daughters attend college, travel around the country for vacation, atten family events, buy homes, and worship all with relative ease.
30. As an Israeli-Arab, I think Mira should stil Participate
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (01.16.09)
It's true we are discriminated against and not giving equal opportunities in Israel. However, truth be told, it's not all bad......, Israel still have it's positive side.... Mira should still go and represent what's good and positive for us in Israel.. her participation should represent coexistance and hope that we all in need of... As for the palestinians, it's not our fault that their leadership chose to bite more than they can chew
