1. Assad-What about the smuggling of arms from Syria to Hezball
Alan ,   SA   (01.14.09)
2. Hilarious. The Chief Terrorist warns of extremism.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.14.09)
Well, I guess he should know - you would expect the sponsor of terrorism to know all about extremism, wouldn't you? The big question is does he write his surrealistic speeches himself or are they sent to him by Iran? You also have to admit that this is a very skillful marionette performance, you can't even see the strings on the puppet pulled by Iran although you can see Ahmadinejad's mouth moving - he hasn't quite mastered his ventriloquist skills yet.
3. They may not be telling the truth
Sam C ,   Tennessee   (01.14.09)
I'm very skeptical about the number of reported deaths by the Gazan authorities. When the final, adjusted count is in, I wouldn't be surprised if only 300 Gazans were killed; not 1000.
4. Mr. Assad can help
Bill Staar ,   Chicago USA   (01.14.09)
President Assad of Syria is moving in a direction that I think Israel should see as a hand out reached to it, and reciprocate in ways that show respect and create and atmosphere that will facilitate and open dialogue between the two countries aimed at solving rifts of the area. Wouldn't it be nice if the road to Damascus was open where tourism flourished between there and Jerusalem. Some day I would like to come there and be able to walk that road. WWJD
5. More Arab threats
Frank ,   Canada   (01.14.09)
These scums are spreading hatred and they threaten to spread more. Only idiotic Zeropeans can be frightened by this mobster.
6. Iran & Syria - Two Of A Kind
Bill Foonman ,   Jacksonville, USA   (01.14.09)
Syria continues to funnel arms to terrorists and nothing this duplicitous "leader" and his cabal says is trustworthy or believable. The Syrians have a long history of lying through their teeth and have zero credibility.
7. Assad the Middle Easts great new diplomat
zionist forever   (01.14.09)
The Europeans and probably Obama will fall in love with this new Assad the diplomat who is working towards peace making ... PUBLICLY BEHIND THE SCENES Assad unapologeticly supports terror. Not long ago he said he saw no reason to stop arming Hizbullah untill Israel gives him the Golan. He has refused numerous demands from the US to close the offices of Hamas in Damascus. He provides Hamas with some of the weapons they have been using thats led to this war. If only we could play politics as well as the arabs we would not only be the top dog militarily but the world would be much more supportive of our interests rather than the arabs who just want things from us. In the arab world Assad is a bafoon but in the west he is a diplomat because he knows just what buttons to press.
8. #3. It'd bet you darn good money the
Joe ,   Ohio, USA   (01.14.09)
death toll is a whole lot larger than Hamas admits. I've seen video of IAF bombing runs on rocket positions and know how deadly they are to anybody in the area. Hamas is down playing the casuality count to maintain moral . You can bet your last dollar on that.
9. Meshaal ready for CeaseFile, Assad acknowledges Israel Deman
meir elazar   (01.14.09)
Apparently the message is finally getting across. Khaled Mesha'al finally announced that HAMAS wants a ceasefire. HAMAS has backed off of its wild rhetoric about Israeli Graveyard, rivers of Israeli blood, until the last drop of blood, etc. Assad has clearly recognized Israeli demands and cited them. This is not a valid justification of accepting a ceasefire but a proof that Operation Cast Lead is beginning to achieve not only its military goals but its political goals. HAMAS and SYRIA realize that HAMAS is existentially threatened and that this Israeli victory may rival the 6 Days Was and possibly be greater is we crush HAMAS, show the world how to defeat Radical Global Arab/Moslem terror, and get the message across to the World that we will defend ourselves and ignore their prejudice and pressure. We don't care if it is the Anti-Semitic France pretending to be neutral or the anti-Israel bashing club at the UN. You are irrelevant and we will fight terror one way or another and WIN.
10. Assad can help only by committing suicide.
(01.14.09)
11. Completely Absurd
Ari   (01.14.09)
Only in Syria, where black is white and up is down can a terrorist leader (assad) of a terror state (syria) give an interview saying that war is a problem because it promotes terrorism. This is too idiotic to even reason through, so i'll just leave this one alone...
12. Assad warns of extremism?
(01.14.09)
The irony of this would be laughable if it weren't so tragic. I don't know which is worse; the hypocrisy of these Syrian officials or the liberal Europeans and Americans who will buy it.
13. IS SYRIAS ASAD BELIEVABLE ???
DENNIS ,   CHICAGO, USA   (01.14.09)
IS SYRIAS ASAD BELIEVABLE CLAIMING THAT ISRAEL BROKE THE TRUCE IN DECEMBER ?????? HE WOULD NEED TO ANSWER : WHO FIRED ALL THE ROCKETS INTO ISRAEL BEFORE THE END OF THE SO-CALLED TRUCE IN DECEMBER. MAYBE THEY WERE FIRED BY .... JORDAN,... OR MAYBE SUDI.... BUT DEFINETELY NOT SYRIA,.... HEY ?
14. TO #11, YOUR RIGHT.
DENNIS ,   CHICAGO, USA   (01.14.09)
HOW THIS ASAD CAN HAVE ANY CREDIT IN THE WORLD COMMUNITY IS AMAZING TO ME. ARE THESE EUROPEAN LEADERS BENDING TO REFLECT THE MASSIVE ARAB BORN CITIZENSHIP THEY'RE DEALING WITH ?
15. ASSAD -THE SAME GOES FOR HIZBOLLA?
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (01.14.09)
16. watch the interview 2 min
Sami ,   Atlanta, USA   (01.14.09)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7828650.stm
17. Baby Face Poacher turned Gamekeeper?
Zohan ,   Tel Aviv   (01.14.09)
I don't think so. Weapons smuggling between Syria and Lebanon is widespread. Now I want to see Israel's list of demands.
18. The Assad regime
lebanese ,   USA   (01.14.09)
the west is yet to realize that the Assad regime is and has always been the number one promoter of terrorism in the middle east they are behind Hizballa and the other hardline palestinian factions who accept nothing less than the total destruction of israel. yet we still see Europe, usa and even israel preventing the fall of this evil regime
19. ... and give Golan to him!
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (01.14.09)
20. he's right
m ,   jerusalem   (01.14.09)
asad is 100 % right on this . Watch and see the next palestinian election will be won by Hamas, because this is a fact that whenever israel does some kind of military assault , arabs become revengful, and they also become more attached to religion. Watch and see , we have accomplished nothing except giving hamas more power. statistically speaking out of the 1.5 million living in the gaza strip 30000 of them are hamas fighters. so , so far we have killed only 300 fighters and the rest civilians , now what about the other 29700 ? is this going to be another 10 year war?
21. #4 muy gracioso
ed   (01.14.09)
Tu sabes quien es PINOCHO? El actual presidente sirio es el PINOCHO DE MEDIO ORIENTE. Cada vez tiene la nariz mas larga.
22. Should we really listen to BBC, Assad?
Joo ,   Eurabia   (01.14.09)
23. It's planting the seeds for extremism"
Racheal ,   Rehovot   (01.14.09)
Ah yes, what we have there now are just a bunch of peaceful neighbors who love sharing candy. Makes one shiver to think what could be considered more extreme than Hamas. Makes one want to stop the canserous growth before it gets worse. For both peoples.
24. Hamas cease fire? Khaled Meshaal is in Damascus
Jake   (01.14.09)
and Meshaal is the one who, after consulting with Syria and Iran, ordered that Hamas not renew the ceasefire with Israel. Meshaal is the one who continues to encourage Hamas rocket fire on Israel. He is the protege of Assad. Call me an idiot, but I used to believe that Assad was different from the other terror-supporting leaders in the Middle East. I thought he just inherited a rotten system, and was trying to make the best of it. But after he made Samir Kuntar a Commander, a kind of knighthood for terrorists, I realize he is cut from the same terrorist mold as the rest of 'em.
25. #4 Reach out and touch Assad's hand
Jake   (01.15.09)
Oh, that sentimental touch. So every time Assad utters a bogus self-serving platitude to the media, Israel should reciprocate in ways that "show respect"? Like what, like giving up the Golan Heights, the eastern Sea of Galilee shoreline, and God knows what else? And for what, so that a few veteran elites from Tel Aviv can travel to Damascus to eat Hummus, while the residents of the Upper Galilee live under the specter of a new Hizbullah? Thanks but no thanks!
26. assad, haaretz and olmert
mohson   (01.15.09)
Haaretz who backed olmert peace moves with syria can be happy that they endorsed the merchant of terror who is in bed with hamas, iran and hizbullah. Most of hamas rockets come from assad and iran. So israeli deaths and maimed soldiers and civilians can be pinned on olmert and haaretz for even thinking of negotiating with assad which is madness. You hear madness!. Even now this criminal olmert is fighting rice and the US over his vanity, and has caused extra israeli casualites with his push on gradually without bold strikes to retake philadelphia or knock out terror enclaves in unexpected places. Gradualism for israel is not a good idf or political method. And Livni, you want to be PM.. Okay, you figure out some foolproof way of stoppiing hamas smuggling at philadelphia. Don't just say well, we stop and hold. Do something else... like retake philadelphia and hold it rather than to let hamas hold it. Barak is quite good for military but not for PM as he was the one who said okay to the lull in the first place and hamas imported rockets of 50 km range. For sure, though, Olmert as Winograd's Dror pointed out screws up everything he touches. Who cares what condi rice did or did not to at the UN. You want the credit, take it you shmuck.
27. #19 in your face: N-E-V-E-R!
Natanel ,   Poland/Israel   (01.15.09)
28. Assad dreams of greater syria not just the golan
zionist forever   (01.15.09)
He sells the seeds of terror that grow into guns and grads when they are planted in Gaza and Lebanon. He still dreams of controlling Lebanon again which up until last year Syria has never recognised as an indipendent state and always considered a province of Syria. He may even try and encourage arab revolution in the Galilee arab triangle just quietly quietly via his terrorist proxies. Assad dreams of being ruler of the Greater Syria which existed before WW1 when Lebanon and parts of Palestine were part of Syria. Its the only way he can outshine his father who in the arab workd is still considered a hero for his stance on Israel and never backing down from a fight with Israel. Junior was never even meant to be president its thanks to the fact his older brother died he got the job and in the arab world he is still seen as abit of a bafoon who they have little respect for. Even having Obama getting him the Golan won't change arab opinion of him that will take something special. As far as the west are concerned he is only interested in the Golan and the billions of dollars of American military aid which will be included in the package but behind the scenes he has much grander plans.
