1. 20 days of silence - a record
Ran   (01.15.09)
but they can't stand it any longer, now all the "officials" are wagging their tongues, giving away what they think they know is the plan etc. 20 days is apparently the maximum "officials" can shut up.
2. SHALIT IS ONLY A BONUS. WHAT A SICKENING LEADERSHIP
..............DACON9   (01.15.09)
3. Olmer mentions Shalit only in his prayers
Ibrahim ,   Russia   (01.15.09)
4. Hamas does not understand yet, but they will.
USA   (01.15.09)
I got your Zionist entity right here.
5. Repeating the same mistakes over and over
David   (01.15.09)
Withdrawals from Lebanon and Gaza turned out to be disasters, but this government continues to advocate for additional withdrawals. International guarantees to prevent Hisbollah from rearming after 2006 have proven to be a complete failure, but now the government wants more international guarantees to prevent Hamas from rearming. With continuous repetition of failed policies it is impossible to achieve either security or success.
6. Options
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (01.15.09)
Somebody please tell me that Israel won't let these a--hats off the hook before they're completely finished and beg to surrender!!!
7. 'Possible bonus"!?!
J K ,   NYC, USA   (01.15.09)
What retards came up with him as a possible 'bonus'? Im not saying it wasnt smart to leave him out of the war objectives at the outset, but if Hamas can play hardball with their concerns, why shouldn't Israel dictate it's own maximalist demands that there will be no stopping of the campaign and targeted assassinations without the return of Shalit, dead or hopefully alive? If this govt sent the might of the IDF in and cant extract the concession of the return of one lone soldier..they should all be run out of Israel. They should be telling the IDF to hunt down Al Zahar and Haniyeh until they are dead if he isn't produced.
8. goals of the operation.
Meir ,   Arad   (01.15.09)
Anything short of unconditional surrender of Hamas is a defeat for Israel. The Arabs are waiting for this defeat to start celebrating and dancing in the streets. Immediately after the cease fire rockets will rain on Tel Aviv.
9. The operation in Gaza reach its dead end
Aaron Rabinovich ,   Canada   (01.15.09)
I don't know what is the political price can Israel achieve by keep shelling civilian and the dead count continue going up ,this doesn't make victory except we earn the name of barbarian. Hamas doesn't appear breaking down ,and if we enter Gaza city, this might fire back on us when the dead soldiers become a bonus for Hamas and not for Shalit release. We are not winning this war as most of us will ,but this is the reality.Another mod situation we created for ourself ,I think this is the max what we are able to achieve.
10. How on earth will Shalit be a bonus
TK ,   USA   (01.15.09)
Israel is entering negotiations from a position of weakness, being on the verge of a unilateral ceasefire. Already they will be forced to accept less than "No rockets, No smuggling". Hamas knows how to negotiate and Israel won't get Shalit without paying a very heavy price.
11. shalit release
marv   (01.15.09)
Now ruling triumvirate, now is the time to put shalit as key part of cease fire package 1) no rockets 2) permanent block of smuggling arms 3)Shalit release don't let olmert con himself into brilliant notion of leaving it to later. Barak and livni have to do this now or shalit will not return. And contrary to kuntar release, if shalit does not come back in good shape, you put a bullet in hamas prisoner as he walks across border. Why idf did not retake philadelphia in a lightening op early is beyond me.
12. Stop this crazy war!
Baruch Kaufman ,   Ramla   (01.15.09)
A gambler who does not know when to get off the table with his winnings and cash his chips and goes on betting will eventually lose EVERYTHING. Dil Olmert learn nothing from Lebanon 2006? It caould happen again, all too easily!
13. Clear objective
Richard ,   Amsterdam Holland   (01.15.09)
"full strength with strikes from the air, sea and ground, in a bid to wear out Hamas completely ," That should be the objective. Not as stated in the article
14. Egypt? You mean Iran.
Jewish Refugee ,   U.S.A.   (01.15.09)
The leader of Hamas is in Syria and he was given an order from Iran to not honor any ceasefire proposition put forward or Hamas will be abandoned. So why are we kidding around and putting the lifes of our soldier at risk by having them stationary (static)? Go in further or should I say till the end. Victory is the only option. But this leadership is a real failureship of Israel.
15. Content of the cease-fire
Frank ,   Canada   (01.15.09)
The cease-fire must include Shalit release and the surrender of some Hamas leaders. That way, Hamas will not be able to claim that they defeated Israel. They must be humiliated.
16. Shalit is PRIORITY ONE
Albert Shalit ,   Buenos Aires Arg   (01.15.09)
it is the example to be given to all arabs, you hold one of us, and you get bombs until you flood in your own blood.
17. Israel educating the world: terrorism can be conquered
Gabi   (01.15.09)
This war demonstrates how a democracy that respects all human rights (even the human rights of Israelis) can still defend itself from genocidal jihadists like Hamas who hide in civilian clothes and residential areas, and warehouse their weapons and shoot missiles from the grounds of schools and hospitals and mosques. Civilian casualties have always been regarded as a tragedy by Israel (and avoided when possible), while they are openly celebrated by Hamas. Because of unparalleled efforts by Israel, this war so far has the lowest comparable rate of civilian casualties in the recorded history of warfare! Europe should pay attention, because just like the billions of voiceless people who are already ruled or directly threatened by tyranny in the rest of the world, Europeans may also soon hear news reports of armed youths (the military wing of Jihad) and intimidation tactics by OPEC, other states, and NGOs financed by Saudi Arabia and/or Iran (the political wing of Jihad) threatening and terrorizing even European citizens to abandon their human rights and accept Sharia law in European cities (as opposed to remaining content with merely terrorizing cities in the African continent, Southeast Asia, the Baltics and republics of the Former Soviet Union, the Indian-China peninsula, and the Middle East, so far). Is it an accident that there are already 22 nations calling themselves "Arab" states, and 57 nations calling themselves "Islamic" states, a number which has been steadily increasing? As is well known by historians and archaeologists, and even accepted in the Quran (Suras 5:21, 10:93-94, 17:7, 17:104, etc.), the Jewish people are indigenous to Judea / the land of Israel. Of those countries formerly inhabited by conquered cultures, only Arabia was indigenous to the Arab people. Being aware of both the recent and historical opposition to the human rights of the Children of Israel on the European Continent and in the Middle East, Israel accepts the risks and responsibilities for choosing the option of LIFE.
