1. Here she goes again.

Yet again, Livni looks, grovels, pleads with Washington to protect the Jews from our enemies. This woman has learned nothing from her Lebanon debacle, August 2006. How could the Jews in Israel put such a woman at the helm?
2. There is only......
Jason   (01.16.09)
...One way of making sure the Hamas Terrorists will not re-arm again, will not try to smuggle arms, weaponry into Gaza. That is to smash, destroy totally the savages, the Hamas Terrorists. How can one trust that Hamas will listen to others, including the US? They are an Islamic terrorist Organisation. They only listen to the barbaric, misanthropic Koranic Tenets, -kill the enemy of Islam, use any cunningness and ruse, including a pretend ceasefire- as they have done thus far, and have many a time openly proclaimed. In fact if anything, within a year their masters in Tehran, the abominably hated, chief terrorists, Mullahs, will have "the bomb" and the capabilities to produce several nuclear heads (even if they are in a "crude" form). This is precisely the reason, they are asking for a ceasefire of a year. It will give the Mullahs ample time to have several nuclear bombs, while in parallel they (Hamas) will be able to arm with both, conventional and nuclear weapons this time (not to mention biological, for, they indicated, by launching phosphorous mortar shells, against Israel this week, they can be capable of anything). There is no middle, half baked solutions this time. You allow, you give your sworn enemy the opportunity to re-arm (possibly, even with nuclear bombs, repeat, even in a "crude" form), and they will use it to destroy you, or at at least attempt to destroy you. Total eradication of the human hating Islamist Terrorists, Hamas , (and the Mullahs later) is the only solution, for Israel's, Middle East's and the World's security, safety and a peaceful future.
3. N0! NO! NO!!
Ian ,   Canada   (01.16.09)
If Al-Qaeda or Taliban forces were cornered, Would we then agree to a ceasefire??? on their terms?? We need to feed the enemy too??? This is crazy!! Finish them off now..that will restore peace..we will NEVER have a better chance!!
4. USA says stop mooching from us!!!

I much prefer my tax dollars go to a vibrant and innovative society that has demonstrated to be a very good return on the investment then the wasted millions of dollars that go to the Arabs who cheer when we bleed. Your ignorance is truly astounding!
7. Livni Deja Vu
Jewish Refugee ,   U.S.A.   (01.16.09)
It sounds like Livni is going to repeat the mistakes of Second Lebanse War and go around tell everyone it was her biggest accomplishment during her years in a ruling party. For more please visit our rapidly growing community at: http://israelactnow.blogspot.com/

Thundercloud65 ,   Oklahoma City USA   (01.16.09)
I prefer our tax dollars to remain in our country and go towards rebuilding our schools and other infrastructure that has gone ignored while we try to build a better world. I support Israel's right to defend itself, but this latest action, timed so cleverly, has placed our armed forces in the middle east in a very bad position. Allies don't do this to one another.
9. Not gonna happen.
ALB ,   Canada   (01.16.09)
Hamas will rearm somehow never gonna stop that from happening. Might as well open the sea to Gaza and Egypt can open its crossing if it wants. I would not open Israeli crossings right away unless you want to see a lot of suicide bombings. Maybe down the road if the situation changes. You can't cut off Gaza like before. It just makes Gazans more angry. I would compare it to North and South Korea. Still technically at war. Put artillery close to Gaza to use if they send any more missles. Shoot it at random into Gaza City. If it escalates to a high level hit back with airstrikes again at launchers or Hamas leadership. Don't bother with ground forces again. You can't disarm Hamas. The fear of overwhelming retaliation is the only possibly deterrance. Maybe they will eventually be overthrown from within.Don't hold your breath.
10. Hope she has a good interpreter!
Fulanito ,   Barcelona   (01.16.09)
Although the NY Times claims she has an IQ of 150, she has been unable to learn English, a language all Israelis take for 12 years in school.
11. hope she has a good interpreter part II
Fulanito ,   Barcelona   (01.16.09)
Hope she doesn't confuse the verbs "smuggle" and "snuggle" which could be very humorous. Or "Hamas" and "Hummus". Or "Georgetown" with "Motown". Or "Obama" with "Ossama".
12. It's time to put an END to Hammas.
Dana ,   Israel   (01.16.09)
There is NO OTHER WAY.
13. VERY WELL SAID 8- thundercloud
USA   (01.16.09)
My views are quite similar, excusing the ally part. I'm wondering if Israel was EVER good for the USA.. i see it as nothing but a huge burden. and USA needs THEIR money at home.
14. Livni Barak Olmert Blowing it
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (01.16.09)
They only want to put a PA government in to save their Peace Treaty. Put Egypt in not the PA and keep a Buffer Zone. If not they fought this war for nothing. http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com
15. reply to ThunderCloud, no. 8
Sam C ,   Tennessee   (01.16.09)
ThunderCloud: "..but this latest action, timed so cleverly, has placed our armed forces in the middle east in a very bad position." Just how has Israel timed this action? If Oklahoma was being bombed by Texas I'm sure you wouldn't just smile at them! You'ld do everything Israel is doing to stop them. As far as U.S. dollars to Israel; did you know the identical amount is given to Egypt as a settlement for ending the '73 war? Israel is an ally, are any of the other 22 Arab countries?
16. Geneva Convention does not apply: Move Rafah resident
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (01.16.09)
It seems that the major powers are staying away from the idea of moving the residents of the border town of Rafah, which is situated on the Philadelphi Corridor because they dont want to violate the Geneva Convention prohibition of moving civilian populations. However, when that population is in a conflict zone it is an obligation to move them rather than a prohibition. Just make sure you dont cheat them like you did to the Israeli residents of Gaza during the "Disengagement". Then, Israel can reduce its occupation down to the border area of Rafah, instead of having to search house to house throughout the whole civilian area of Gaza looking for missiles. Sometimes the letter of the law is less humane than the spirit of the law.

19. The Egypt-Gaza border crossing.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (01.16.09)
Israel should make no concessions to Hamas. The Egypt-Gaza border crossing should be exclusively under the control of Israel. The only second possibility should be the free choice of the inhabitant of Gaza to emigrat to other Arab countries (most of these countries are not very populated and can easily integrate them). The time has come for these people to stop with politics and terrorism and search for a solution for their families based on well-being and peace. That is the real solution as explained at : http://xrl.us/bi5c8
20. Winning the war - don't loose the piece
Stan ,   Johannesburg   (01.16.09)
Anything on paper means nothing to hamas, hiszb etc. as demonstrated in the Leb2 agreement and the fact that USA is powerless to prevent the shipment of advanced AA missiles to Syria/Iran and the stopping of Nuclear Iran. Rather than setting up security fences, sea patrols, blockades which are expensive, damaging to Israels image and ere yet to work - RATHER remove the problem (hamas) properly and start again from scratch with open borders etc.
21. Cease fire
David Feigenbaum ,   Netanya, Israel   (01.16.09)
If President Bush wants a cease fire before he leaves office, we should tell him that we want Johnathon Pollard back with a full pardon, before we agree to a cease fire.

Yaron ,   USA   (01.16.09)
Are you kidding me man? What if missiles, rockets, and mortars were flying over your head in your sovereign country? Second, the best investment we make in foreign assistance is to Israel. The reason we finally got our act together in Iraq was because of Israeli know-how. Don't be foolish anyway....it is not as thought the money would go to our schools if it didn't go to Israel. It would be lining the pockets of one of our crooked politicians anyway. Ironically, my wife is an educator and the system is most surely broken but not sure money will solve the problem anyway!
