spot on! great article
2. Tel Aviv
Gur   (01.17.09)
It's dirty, unkempt, hotels run by Russian mafiosi, there are bordellos and clubs of the lowest kind, the bus station is probably the worst-designed building in the world, lots of bad restaurants, overpriced slum housing, what's so great about Tel Aviv?
3. Is this kind of a joke?
Rich ,   NYC   (01.17.09)
Then it is a silly joke. People in Tel Aviv do not sleep in shelters. People in Tel Aviv do not want to serve in IDF. People in Tel Aviv make nose and nothing else. They do NOT go to die for Israel. Perhaps after 2000 grads end up in the center of Tel Aviv, they will wake uwake up. May be?
4. Excellent point.
Roi Ben-Yehuda   (01.17.09)
5. Someone get him some Cheese to go along with his wine
Sam ,   Atlanta   (01.17.09)
Obviously, comments like the ones you found so "offensive" are directed at those in Tel Aviv that would rather fuel the division in Israel Society even further than support their own military.
6. Do what ever is necessary and don’t give damn to others,
e.m.Jordan is Palest ,   s.f   (01.17.09)
If any one believes after the WWII the world opinions have change regarding to Jews he or she are mistaking, we are still living in same planet with the same people, Since 2000 years ago has been Anti- Semitisms and the people have got use to that and will believes on that until the day there is Vatican and Islamo fascists, Israel must ignore the world opinion and will do it what ever is necessary for her nation and don’t give damn to others,
7. you don't stand in the reathm.

8. Tel Avivim or Tsfonim? You are right - but 8 years of it?
Sheila ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (01.17.09)
The mock up of Azrieli is a disgrace! The suggestion that Tel Avivim have never suffered is also a rotten shame - but right now it is undoubtedly the people of Otef Aza who are and have been suffering the most. There is an element of truth in the thought that if it had happened to a big city - Tel Aviv or the much bigger Jerusalem - reactions would have been faster and tougher.
9. Tel Aviv is full of Leftists! They created this mess!
JAyj3 ,   Israel   (01.17.09)
They supported OSlo! They supported disengagement! They currently support the pathetic cowards, Olmert, Barak and Livni! While self indulgent leftist fools like Yair are sipping their lattes and calling for peace, bombs are falling in the South and North, our soldiers are dying in Gazza, and all that YAir cares about is what people think of Tel Avivians and his depreciating stocks!
10. What do you expect?
Nobody ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (01.17.09)
The same Tel Avivians who sat in cafes reading the newspaper, grooming their dogs and chit-chatting with each other during Expulsion 2005 continued to do so while Sderot was being bombarded and are doing the same thing now. A Jew who doesn't feel the pain of another Jew has forgotten what it means to be a Jew ... or he never learned in the first place. Shame!
11. FORTRESS RAMAT AVIV
Marty Goldberg ,   Paris, France   (01.17.09)
WHAT ABOUT RAMAT AVIV? THE WORLDS SAFEST PLACE. THE BLEEDING HEART CAPITAL.
12. RAMAT AVIV IS IMPREGNABLE
EGLANTINE DURAND ,   MARSEILLE FRANCE   (01.17.09)
RAMAT AVIV IS IMPREGNABLE! WE ARE ENLIGHTENED PEOPLE SO WE ARE NOT ATTACKED
13. #9 Yeah, those damn peace-loving hippies
Chaim ,   TA   (01.17.09)
How dare they want normal lives without the constant threat of war looming over them.. stupid leftists.
14. Badly timed article

15. praise on telaviv

thank God for some common sense we are all in the same boat and there is only ONE. on every subject there are always 3 people with 4 opinions. please continue. possible if we had all the same opinion it would be boring
16. "Nasty Criticism of Tel Aviv" - Dissent in Israeli ranks?
David ,   Canberra Australia.   (01.17.09)
Occupied people have the right to resist - even though by your figures, in comparison to the death, dislocation and persecution of Palestinians, Palestinian resistance is just a pin-prick. Un sources quote 5,000 plus casualties in just the last 3 weeks of the Judeo-Christian supported Israeli occupation of Palestine. Your disgust in your countrymen however, is the first time I have seen any evidence of a split in Israeli sociatal ranks! My last post was censored by the editors (sorry Sir's), here's another try. The slaughter in Gaza is making everyone I know very sick. Judeo-christians may justify the 1947 invasion, the surrounding, separating, starvation and shooting of the Palistinians, in any way you and Tel Aviv wish to. Auguing with Judeo-Christians (that is the collective leadership of Israel and the US, and many of our co-contributers here) is seen i my secular country as a waste of time, and I recieve criticism from friends for posting in these forums. Mr O'Bama and Mrs Clinton are now speaking for you and all Gods Children, and in the same manner as Mr Bush and Israeli spokes-people have always done. All the Palestinians and the rest of us now have, is International Law and the right to decide against trade with the US, and trade and economic aide with and to Israel. We talk in Canberra and the rest of Australia about how we might do the right thing by Palestine (humans with rights, tenure and ambition) and economic boycot as well as increased support of the UN seems to be a strong, legal, and democratic option. Would the people of Tel Aviv notice if we stopped trading and talking with you? If we picked specific companies in specific parts of Israel to boycott with trade, would it exacerbate the obvious rifts which are evidenced by Mr Lapids article? Your child Mr Lapid, remembers gas masks that might have saved his life when Iraq attacked in the name of support of Israel. Palestinian children speak of their injuries from Israeli weapons, and the memomories of their families lost in countless attacks on Palestine. Two of my uncles trained (with the Australian Army) in Palestine before beating the Italians and the Nazis in North Africa, and then in Germany. They spoke highly of their treatment in Palestine. They spoke with disgust of the behaviour of Nazi Germany towards their innocent Jewish victims. We say that the Gods must be Crazy, and wonder about the compassion of their children,
17. the Tel Aviv Bubble ( Dov Hannin )
Avenger   (01.17.09)
I ask how many votes Dov Hannin got for mayor of tel aviv Then I say it is fair to say that Yiar Lapid needs to open hit eyes All that they say about Tel Aviv is true
18. Nobody , Tel Aviv
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.17.09)
Changing our lifestyle because of the bombings in the south would mean that we surrender to hamas . It does not mean that we do not think at those people , that does not mean that we have no feelings for every wounded or worse , murdered Israeli .
19. Sugestion to Iair Lapid
Ester ,   Jerusalem   (01.17.09)
I read very carefully his article in the newspaper and in Y NET and I have some suggestions to Iair. Everybody knows well what happened in Israel for many years already. Not only Tel Aviv suffer of terrorist attaque, it was all over the country and in Jerusalem we had even more terrorist crimes. But what has been occurring in the south in Sderot and even Ashkelon, Ashdod, Kiriat Gat and Beer Sheva is a different story. I would suggest that Iair and his family to move to Sderot not for a day or a week but for a year at least and to experience how the people over there live with a constant. day and night worry of hearing the sirens and the RED COULOR. I would like to see how his children will do in school, how they will be able to go to sport activities or even to be able to visit a friend. I would like to see how his wife would be able to concentrate in her creative activities. And also how he will be able to work freely and move around to have interesting reports. It is a pity that he did not move a year ago, so he would not write such articles in the press. We shall see if it will change in the future, we shall hope.
20. THE TEL-AVIV BUBBLE WILL SOON BURST!
BECAUSE OF THE LEFT ,   WING IDIOTS!   (01.17.09)
21. Lapid is wrong
RobertK ,   Jerusalem   (01.17.09)
Among the IDF casualties in this war you don't hear about anyone from Tel Aviv. In the Lebanon War there were 3military fatalities from Tel Aviv out of 140 for the country. Tell me when you see a lot of Tel Avivis in combat units, if they can get off their selfish leftist asses and serve in the IDF at all, and then I can listen to Lapid.
22. Ester , Jerusalem
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.17.09)
Had we to live in our Capital to feel the fear you had when taking a bus ? or go to the Mahane Yehuda market ? Do you think we can't imagine the life you in Yeroushalaim had then ? Do you think that we need to live in Sderot to know the kind of life they have there ? Do you think that we did'nt have some apprehension to take a bus 5 or to go to Dizengoff center ? It's different in Sderot of course , but we know it in the same way you do .
23. Something fishy here!!!
JLart ,   Ashkelon, Israel   (01.17.09)
Funny that throughout these last 8 yrs, the mobilization to stop rockets falling in the south were never there. But, when the first rockets started to fall near the money making machine INTEL industry in Kiriat Gat suddenly there is a whole operation put into action. Is this pressure??? I wonder what will be done if they falls in Telaviv :) All we have to do is pay attention to the small details.
24. didnt get the point
Jens ,   TA   (01.17.09)
I guess the point of the article is to clarify that saying the people in Tel-Aviv dont know bout terror is downplaying the past and offends the feelings of those who suffered. Its not about who's worse off.
25. Mr.Lapid's math
Rod ,   Fargo U.SA   (01.17.09)
In Proportion Sedorot lost more people as Tel Aviv is much larger. In the South it's almost a daily occurence of rockets being fired at the people. Also in Tel Aviv it is mostly the less the fortunate then Mr.Lapid and his friends who travel on the bus Russians,Ethiopians and the few people from Tel Aviv who serve in combat units in the IDF.During the first Gulf war whast did the mayor of Tel Aviv say that that it was empty because of all the people that fled. And during the war in Lebanon what did one General say, i'm embarresed that in Tel Aviv i really did'nt have to send condolences hardly anyone from their served
26. best op-ed I've read
Yael ,   Tel Aviv   (01.17.09)
Thank you Yair! --From a Tel Avivian who currently works in Beer Sheva...
27. Shame on Yair Lapid
EYS ,   Montreal Canada   (01.17.09)
Stop it Lapid. You'Re jsut one of these lazy tel avivi, sionist a day on three, especialy when the rockets are falling on the south. The boys who posted the youtube video are totally right and they should be supported, not criticized. It was the same during the Lebanon war against the hezbollah : while the north was aimed by the hizbollani missiles, Tel Aviv was doing the fiesta on the beach with techno music.
28. tel aviv arrogance
david ,   dallas texas   (01.17.09)
you have missed the point - tel aviv citizens paid dearly in blood for terrorists attacks but they did not care for the suffering in Shderot for 7+ years! but were always some ready to demonstrate for saving Gaza's children "all people are equal but some are more equal than others" - once tel aviv is attacked the government takes action
29. Hey leftists, it's about you too
Voice of Truth   (01.17.09)
Egyptian cleric talks as he sees your left future (Hamas TV, Dec 08) - http://www.youtube.com/v/i08L09V0_sg&hl=en&fs=1
30. Nasty against Tel Avivians?
Ariel Ben Avraham ,   Tzfat, Israel   (01.17.09)
Yair, you are smart enough not to miss the point of the students and their computer animation in YouTube. It's obvious that it is intended to give a slap in the face to the mostly liberal Tel Avivians who rather give their lives for the "poor" Gazan terrorists than to be solidarious with their brothers in the South. You should be defending the student's point, instead of taking side with liberal anti-Zionistic like yourself.
