1. Since when are conditions
Ben Hur ,   Manhattan, USA   (01.18.09)
imposed on the victor?
2. Outflank Mubarak
J K ,   NYC, USA   (01.18.09)
Tell him we are cutting off all electricity, gas, phone and other services to Gaza in 6 months. Good luck with the strip. Stiff him right back. And, since Egypt interests will pervade the strip and they will have more of a direct hand in what goes on, you can be sure Egyptian security will move and and make sure they don't risk their 2 billion in US Aid (no one likes to talk about that..only about Israel's US aid), I'm sure they will treat Hamas the same way they deal with the Muslim Brotherhood.
3. Yes mr. mubarak, why dont't you lift the siege?
Arie ,   BaGolan   (01.18.09)
You have secured the rafah crossing for years. Why don't you open that crossing so the residents of gaza can exit?
4. Egypt cannot be trusted.
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (01.18.09)
Egypt is a one sided Arab supporter and should not be trusted. Even today, after all these years of “peace”, Egypt is still the world center of anti-Israeli incitement. It has huge militairy expenses while its generals admit that the enemy is Israel. There is no doubt that in case of a general conflict in the Middle-East Egypt will fight in the camp of the enemies of Israel. Differences between Israel and Arabs cannot be brokered by an Arab country. The solution to the Middle-East conflict is described at : http://xrl.us/bi5c8
5. You see what happens when the world
Lior ,   Israel   (01.18.09)
appeases terrorists and shits on Israel in so doing. Mubarak once again dictates what we in Israel must do. while in the mean time not one of those so called world leaders kissing and hugging the TERRORIST ENABLER MUBARAK says word one about the fact it was Mubarak these past years who has allowed thousands of weapons tunnels dug from Egypt to Gaza! Now ask yourselves how weapons from Iran ARRIVES in Egypt and then on to GAZA? What a bunch of crap. And all because these leaders in Israel have no balls to fight let alone speak truth. Yah, they run to the feet of Mubarak sometimes three times a week so I guess it is no wonder the terror enabler Mubarak give us orders. Who thinks for one moment arms will stop crossing from Egypt to Gaza?? This whole mess makes me sick. In the mean time our beloved son Gilad Shalit sits and rots. Just lift the siege of Gaza we are told. Open all the borders they scream. So what if suicide bombers stream out and kill our children!! And watch, no change in government come election. We are stupid. We learn nothing. Again Thank you YNET for being the only forum on the internet where we can vent.

7. World's biggest hypocrites hold conference.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.18.09)
A major point of discussion was if appeasement & spinelessness count as hypocrisy while Egypt held out for the view that lying & duplicity should also count. The issue is as yet undecided. Britain has been meeting with France on the sidelines seeking help in joining the Arab League. Sarkozy feels that there are not enough terrorist states in the region & would like to expedite the creation of another one as soon as possible. Another major issue is arms smuggling which all agree, they will do nothing to prevent except make speeches. Mubarak would like Israeli troops to withdraw because the Muslim Brotherhood is creeping up on him & he is very, very worried.
8. Mubarak
Natan   (01.18.09)
Mubarak is full of crap!!! For years, Egypt has allowed shipments of arms and missiles into Gaza. They were a part of the blockades but yet Hamas did not fire missiles at them, did they????Here is the deal Mr. Mubarak, you open the borders first, take care of the tunnels on your side of the border, stop the weapons smuggling and then we may consider moving out of Gaza, otherwise kiss my tuchas and get lost!!!!
9. #1 - for the past 60 years
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (01.18.09)
Haven't you noticed, the only country in history to win a war (especially the last dozen of so defensive ones) and to be required to give back what it won or to have terms dictated to it is Israel. Israel should close its boarders with Gaza, cut the power, and let these Egyptian Arabs go back to living under their own proper government. Israel won the '67 war and then had to give back 95% of what was won in order to get a peace deal - what was left was Gaza - Egypt refused to even consider taking it back. The same is the stand of Syria - you won now give it back if you want peace. Hamas will never stand down while their leaders sit safely in Syria and their people suffer for their stupidity. Already they are claiming that they won this war as Israel did not destroy them - but the missiles are stopping.
10. # 7 Terry
J K ,   NYC, USA   (01.18.09)
I don't understand why Israel's answer would by anything other than a big fat 'NO' Why the hell should they supply anything to a regime/people that spent the last 8 months shooting rockets into civilian zones? If anything, once we withdraw, we should really withdraw. Close the borders and shut off the power grid/phone, everything and wish them luck. If they keep firing, they can look as much like the moon as they'd care to.
11. Sarkozy: "Speed efforts toward ultimate goal!"
Steve   (01.18.09)
What's the answer to jihad terrorism coming out of Gaza? Why, speed the efforts to spread it throughout the 'West Bank' and east Jerusalem; maybe into the Golan Heights itself. Then will will see a mass-slaughter of the Jews on an unprecedented scale! This is the French answer to the Jewish question.
12. Conditions on the Victor (#1)
Ed ,   USA   (01.18.09)
Conditions are not imposed on the victor they are imposed on the loser by the victor. Israel lost sad to say. Israel did not stop the rocket fire (Hamas chose to stop after Israel ceased fire) Israel did not obtain the release of Gilad Shalit Israel did not manage to either topple Hamas or have them surrender. Israel did not manage to convince the world of the need and justification of its actions (justified though they are). Israel therefore left Hamas in much the same state as Hizbullah in Lebanon. Stronger having stood up to Israel, stronger having shown that Israel cannot (or will not) eliminate them, in control of their own destiny now with a seat (right now virtual but soon actual) at the negotiating table. Iran's proxies are in place, they are the ones seen in the arab world as fighting Israel and surviving and Iran continues to develop and prepare its ultimage fate for Israel. Israel clearly lost and hence conditions are being dictated to the loser.
13. Mubarak - A Typical Duplicitious Arab leader
Bill Foonman ,   Jacksonville, USA   (01.18.09)
It is quite incredible that Mubarak has the unmitigated gall to tell Israel what to do or not? If this Machiavellian hypocrite had done what he was more than able to do - seal the Hamas tunnels on his side of the border, there would not have been a war in the first place. He joins the Mad Mullahs, Assad, Gadaffi, the Saudis and just about any other Moslem leader on the growing list of untrustworthy dictators with zero credibility.
14. Ben Hur , # 1 . Since the victor is Israel
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.18.09)
How many times were we attacked ? we won , always . Where did it happen in world history that a country that was victorious in every war after being attacked , was the ONE obliged to make concessions . And where was it written that an independant country [ gaza ] should be feeded by another she does NOT recognise , she wants to eradicate . Independance means also providing food for your people , providing jobs , infrastructure , and so to her inhabitants .

"Tell him we are cutting off all electricity, gas, phone and other services to Gaza in 6 months." I agree completely. Having said that we must cut electricity, gas, phone and other services if we are enablers. I am not sure why we provide this in the first place. Makes one think what this is all about. These world leaders are crying tonight we must hurry for a Palestinian state. Agreed. Now Egypt and Jordan can take care of their statehood needs. Let's see what happens next. Israel must wash their hands once and for all. Ha ha.
17.  Yes mr. mubarak, why dont't you lift the siege? says 3
Sharon ,   Tel Aviv   (01.18.09)
There lies the rub. No one dares call Egypt on the (flying) carpet about anything! Mubarak's reign has been one of human rights violations to the hilt. For that he has been elevated to statesman. We all know Israel is held to a different morally bankrupt standards which is why this topic is mute anyway.
18. 7#,Terry, Iran must be dealt with
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (01.18.09)
Israel gave Hamas a pretty good whupping over the last three weeks even though they will never admit it. Most of the Hamas tunnels, infrastructure and even some of their top leadership were destroyed. Yet unless Iran, the head of the snake, is dealt with then Hamas and Hezbollah will continue to strengthen in the years to come especially if Iran is allowed to develop nuclear weapons.

20. Mubaraks going back on his original proposal
zionist forever   (01.18.09)
When Mubarak first came up with this proposal he said that the opening of borders was something that should be negotiated later vis Egypt & Hamas and Egypt & Israel not something that would happen immidiately. Before the war he was also saying that Raffah should not be opened to anybody but Abbas because otherwise it would mean Egypt recognising the legitimacy of the Hamas take over of Gaza. Will Egypt open Raffah if Israel opens its borders or will it be the way things usualy work whereby Israell gives, arabs take but arabs give nothing in return and make no gestures? Really doesn't seem to be much in this for Israel at all. We will continue to rely on Egypt alone to control the borders and stop the smuggling just like they have been doing so well for over three years now and they have been so good at stopping smuggling. It looks ike Egypt is pushing a 1 year ceasefire which Hamas needs anyway to rearm and regroup. Now they seem to want Israel at least to open its borders. Mubarak and Assad must love all this they are the great diplomats working to end the war Mubarak especialy. We have the Saudis making a name for themselves with their plan which gives the arabs everything and Israel very little but the Saudis at least are ones everybody is now looking to so they can solve the arab / Israel war. Today everybody hates us and its going to get worse once Obama moves into the White House and they love the arabs. When they want somethng out of Israel they dont come to Israel to find a solution, they go to the arabs ask them to work out a solution that can be imposed onto Israel.

22. Egypt is part of the smuggling trade!
Sandi ,   US   (01.18.09)
Egypt is as bad as the rest. Think of the revenue lost if they stop smuggling. Is there any doubt they are part of the 3 ring smuggling operation:Egypt, Syria and Iran.
23. Sarkozy, my partial Jewish brother is an idiot

How can we expedite the founding of a pal state when they are on the brink of civil war with fatah and Hamas killing each other?

For sure Iran must be dealt with - but who's going to do it? Eurabian appeasers? They're so afraid of their own Muslim minorities rioting & anyway, they don't have the will to use force. America? Not likely with Obama seeking ''dialogue'' - he's just following the Europeans, let's make America popular in the Muslim world. Israel? Very difficult without American approval. For the moment I don't see any solution to the Iran problem ..... We may be left with the absolute worst option - retaliating with a second strike ......
29. #10 J K, NYC USA.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.18.09)
A big fat NO requires a different kind of leadership - not the trio of losers we have now. Obviously, we should shut down all connexion to Gaza totally. Dump the problem on Egypt. But our current leadership is far too concerned with upsetting the Egyptians not to mention our supposed ''friends'' in the EU. Wait, it will be worse when Obama copies the European approach. If we don't have the right kind of leaders here in Israel to resist the pressure, our future will not be very bright. Hope that the upcoming elections will bring change in the Right direction (pun intended).
30. The weak link
Maurice ,   Montreal   (01.18.09)
"Egypt, maintaining that it can police its own border with Gaza, has rejected the idea of any international monitoring force in its territory." Anyone believing that Egypt will stop the smugglers into Gaza is just dreaming in spades. Israel must be part of any force that controls the Egypt-Gaza crossings. Nothing less will work. Just look at how successful UNILFIL has been in Lebanon: Hezbollah has now more arms than before the second Lebanon war. If the Israeli leaders accept this then they will have shown once again that they are useless.
