4. So-called Hamas victory
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (01.19.09)
If world calls on prosecuting Israel as Zionist criminals, then I propose that we in turn ask that Hamas et.al. be prosecuted as criminals for the 8 year rocket siege on our country, that caused unknown amount of damage, casualties and deaths. Plus the unknown condition of our kidnapped soldier. Isn't kidnapping a federal offence in democratic societies? How is it that the world is so fearful of the Muslims / Islams (that may I tell you are planning to universally take over) and so against Israel, the only rational country in the region.
5. Wishing Hamas and Iran many more such "victories"
Daniel ,   NY, USA   (01.19.09)
6. victory?!
Ilana   (01.19.09)
If he thinks this is a victory, with hamas leaders only now emerging from their hideaways while their civilans' houses, masgads and schools were all booby trapped, and therefore brought to ruins, if civilians were left unprotected and uncared for, then he can have all the victories he wants, but next time, leave your civilians out of it. Everything with them is upsidedown! Infantile once again.
7. This half-truth will be successfully marketed.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.19.09)
While obviously a disaster for ordinary Gazans, it won't be hard to sell this ''reality'' through-out the Muslim world. Hamas had only to survive to achieve this phoney ''victory''. This war is as much about symbolism & propaganda as it is about military success. The ''Islamic'' version has a receptive audience, eager for any success. There is little critical & objective analysis in their target audience. Half-truths lend themselves to propaganda in a region given to conspiracy theories, religious fanaticism, & an already brain-washed population of semi-illiterates. To convey the perception of defeat, Israel had to accomplish symbolic achievements impossible to disguise. One would have been the unconditional release of Gilad Shalit. Another would be to kill high-profile Hamas leaders & public spokesmen. Hamas & their Iranian sponsors don't care how many Gazans die, they care nothing about the destruction of civilian infrastructure. On the contrary, the more victims & suffering, the better their propaganda campaign. To consider this Gaza Op a success, Hamas had to be perceived as defeated. This we did not do.
8. Iran!
John ,   U.K   (01.19.09)
Iran sponsors Hamas, supplying training for terrorists and giving them over $25O million a year.
9. If you think my interpretation is wrong ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.19.09)
Scout around & read the talkbacks from Arabs ...... This will become the ''accepted version'' just as our ''defeat'' in Lebanon was hailed as proof we are not invincible & can be beaten.
10. Ahmadarejendeh pathetic looser
Kidon 77   (01.19.09)
Pathetic iranian psychopat. 1500 casualties and a flattened aera, against 10 casulaties is for them a "victory". I wish that Tehran too will get soon those kind of victory.
11. Victory
Ram ,   London   (01.19.09)
Only a warped mind will consider the result of this conflict a "victory".
12. Withdrawal?
(01.19.09)
"pressure must be exerted for a complete withdrawal" of the IDF soldiers ...i thought it is to kill all the Israeli soldiers?? How come softened your stance? Bloody losers, the Iranian Bearded-skinny pig
13. Thanks for showing the world what Israel stands for!!!
Isaac ,   US   (01.19.09)
All the marketing and media manipulation will not work anymore. First creating a concentration camp and then also killing innocent civilians who had nothing to do with the conflict shows the world what Israel really stands for.
14. With oil at $30 Iranians will be eating grass
Elly ,   Vienna, Austria   (01.19.09)
With oil at $30 Iranians will be eating grass soon. No more money to terrorise Jews through Hamas.
15. victory
arez ,   uk   (01.19.09)
We did not achieve our goals ! Hamas still has orcket capibilities, they still in charge of Gazam simply, a part from the destruction and the mayhem we caused, we have not gained much, the wealth arab state will rebuild Gaza, Hamas will re-arm. What we have gained is worldwide condemnation, we killed women and children and we ensured that the new palestinian generation will be raised on more hate and extremisim. We are useless when it comes to fighting a war, simply because we have no propotion and do put it more bluntly, we are occupying a land which is not ours, what can we expected the occupied to throw at us ? flowers and rice ? I am afraid the future is very dull and frightening.
16. Very funny they won!
Paul ,   U.K   (01.19.09)

18. Ants & Dinosaurs
Sarah ,   Manchester, UK   (01.19.09)
Ants maybe small but look where dinosaurs are now!!
19. Ahmadinejad congratulates and war crimes
DT ,   TA Isr   (01.19.09)
The World will no doubt do that while pandering and trying to placate Ahmadinejad - perish the thought of ever suggesting he could prosecuted
20. and what goals did hamas achieve exactly?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (01.19.09)
is survival a "goal"? if yes, then so did israel. is the safety of leadership accomplished? yes and no (many thanks to civilians) is gaza better off in any way? no did the crossings open? no did hamas accomplish anything on the battlefield, other that littering it with palestinians? no. did hamas gain anything from this skirmish? no. are gazans more suportive of hamas now? no. this epic win for hamas ranks right up with the german & japanese victories in the wars of the last century. may they continue to go from strength to strength, as the case may be.
21. I thought Hamas was against renewing the ceasefire
Jake   (01.19.09)
before the war started. But now they are announcing a unilateral ceasefire, with the IDF still in Gaza. Mr. Ahmedinejad, with victories like these, who needs defeats?
22. Why are WE not prosecuting THEM????
Z Lando ,   Tekoa, Israel   (01.19.09)
Use the same tactics - why do we always play mister nice guy????
23. I wish Ahmedinajad and Mashal many many such victories loool
Zohar ,   the holy land   (01.19.09)
24. 30 feet deep smuggling tunnels undamaged in air campaign
Jason ,   tel aviv israel   (01.19.09)
You can't destroy the smuggling tunnels through the air. Kadima and Labor refused to allow idf ground troops to destroy the tunnels in rafah. There are now reports that iran smuggled in rockets even during the war. Hamas also had their rockets stored in bunkers in gaza city and shot rockets from tunnels that is why rockets kept being fired and their rocket storage was unaffected. Air campaigns kill civilians not hamas. Hamas only lost 48 fighters
25. #4:Israel rational?It doesn't seem so.
Zyriab ,   Montréal   (01.19.09)
On what basis do you categorize Israel as being rational? Do you call its assault on Gaza strip rational ? or proportionate ? Do you respond to rocket attacks by almost razing 350 sq.km & killing more than 1000 people & injuring & maiming thousands more ? This is total madness in the 21st century & what is really lamentable is that no one was able to halt this assault... How come only Israel in this world possess such an immunity against international laws & sanctions ? Something is disturbingly wrong when the whole world takes the side of Israel. But at least this time, something has changed ; perhaps not on governmental level, but, on the street level...ordinary people all over the globe are discovering the dark face of the Israeli state. Rational ?! I don't think so!
26. Ahmadinejad for Noble peace prize
tony harris ,   ISRAEL   (01.19.09)
27. Iran smuggling rockets to hamas right now
Neal ,   sderot israel   (01.19.09)
The 30 feet deep smuggling tunnels were unaffected by the air campaign. You need ground troops to destroy tunnels. Just like in lebanon you can't win in an air campaign. Hamas copied hezbollah and stored their rockets deep in bunkers and their tunnels are so deep air campain is useless. But Kadima because of disengagement refused to allow idf ground troops to destroy the tunnels.
28. Ahmadinejad the mediocre
Akbar ,   Bahrain   (01.19.09)
Wow, President Ahmadinejad looks insecure among his body guards in the picture shown above!! What is the problem?
29. ahmadinejad congratulates........

Yon ,   Haifa   (01.19.09)
I wish all of them the same victory! Do they need some toilet paper?
