1. Very simple
Ben ,   Gush Etzion   (01.19.09)
Knesset Member (Avigdor) Lieberman and the Yisrael Beiteinu and National Union lists are loyal to the State of Israel, your parties are fifth column traitors who have shown time and again that you're DISLOYAL to the State and seek it's destruction! Your parties are the racist ones that promote ethnic cleansing of Jews from Israel! Yisrael Beiteinu and the National Union members served in the IDF. Avigdor Lieberman served in the IDF and held the rank of Corporal
2. Anti-Zionist Parties
David ,   Yerushalayim   (01.19.09)
Why do we ban only Arab anti-Zionist parties, and not also Jewish anti-Zionist parties? The rule should be that every member of Knesset has to declare: "I am a Zionist", and any party that does not support IDF service by every citizen, should be banned.
3. Stupid, racist decision. Let them run.
JPS ,   Efrat   (01.19.09)
This decision is an embarrassment to all Israelis. The parties must be allowed to run. We may not like what they stand for, but we have no right to disqualify them. Even as a resident of Judea (or what in pro-Palestinian lobby terms, "a settler"), I say this decision is simply stupid and shortsighted. The Arabs' biggest hindrance is their own disunity, which shows itself by the number of lists they run and their small numbers in the Knesset. If the Arabs ever stop tripping each other up and show unity by running under one banner, then they'd garner 20% of the seats, and stand a good chance of forming the official opposition. Then we might see some real democratic progress in the Arab sector.
4. The Court's decision will be a judgement on itself.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.19.09)
How the Court decides in this matter will reflect the Court's fitness to be considered a representative of the Jewish State or a partisan of a ''state of all it's citizens'' - in other words, a bi-national state. Should the Court decide to over-turn the disqualification of the Arab parties, it also disqualifies itself as an institution of the Jewish State. There is no other way of looking at this case - all liberal rhetoric aside, this is the bottom line. The decision strikes at the very fundamental nature of the State & it's survival in the long-term as a Jewish state.
5. tibi hides behind democracy just as hamas does
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (01.19.09)
ahmed tibi is both racist and antidemocratic, not to mention a hypocrtite. he only wants to use the slogan of democracy to undermine the very notion. like hamas, they want their loopy version of "democracy" (which is actually the very antithesis of democracy, both in concept and in practice) in order to weaken and eliminate the middle east's sole true and working example of real democracy. if tibi is so concerned about "full equality", then why does he support palestinian government which denies "full equality" to all non-muslims? like i said, because he's a hypocrite.
6. To #3 JPS
Ricardo Macher ,   KarneiShomron-Israel   (01.19.09)
JPS good morning, You are forgetting in your argumentation, some basic facts. A State is not just a gathering of equals in Parliament, those are just representatives. A state is mainly an identification with an idea, a belonging to your history and in the case of Israel, also the recognition of it as the country of the Jews, with the right of returning to ALL the people of Israel being a basic principle. Morale is much more important that lawfulness, believe me, your statement is post-zionist, we Zionist and proud "settlers" , believe that to be a Jewish state is much more important than to be a democratic state. BTW I doubt you live in Efrat and even that you are Jewish.
7. # 5 - Tibi
David ,   Yerushalayim   (01.19.09)
A good description of Tibi. But, if you changed the name to Lieberman, the decription would be exactly the same.
8. The Arab parties are enemies of Israel
rafael ,   Jerusalem   (01.19.09)
Enemies don't belong in the Knesset. They belong in prison.
9. What don't the Arab parties support the UN?
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (01.19.09)
Don't these parties respect UN resolutions or international law? United Nations General Assembly Resolution no. 181 of 1947 clearly states that "the creation from all of the lands of Mandatory Palestine west of the Jordan River, representing 22% of original Mandatory Palestine, a Jewish state" Who are they to disregard the UN while demanding that Israel should follow them?
10. Naive and Stupid
Poppy   (01.19.09)
I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY WE CANNOT ACCEPT THAT THE ARABS IN THE KNESSET ARE OUR ENEMY AND WILL ONLY DO HARM TO ISRAEL THEY ARE ON THE SIDE OF THE HAMAS AND IRAN SO HOW THE HELL CAN THEY BE PART OF OUR KNESSET?????????????
11. look on this its amazing

12. 7 - actually, no
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (01.19.09)
i've listened to what lieberman says and, with an arab family, i do not find much of anything he proposes about arabs objectionable. lieberman basically says arabs should have equal rights as jews, but also the exact same responsibilities. that's not at all what tibi wants, in fact, it is the opposite wrapped in the words of "equality" and "democracy". tibi's goal is to undermine liberty, lieberman's is not. and i say that as someone who would never vote for lieberman.
13. our left wing dominated courts will uphold the appeal
zionist forever   (01.19.09)
There is an attitude we should let arabs get away with just about anything even if we wont allow jews to do the same thing. We want to say to the arabs look we love you, we want you as an appreciated minority. The courts have upheld appeals to ban arab parties who break the rules before and there is no reason to think they wont do it again.
14. Dictatorship or Democracy?
marti ,   hamburg/germany   (01.19.09)
if there is no place for opposition,if there is no free press,if you will be punished when you say what you think,if the society look at things from only one perspective.. i think,a real and strong democracy can and must stand opposition.
15. Disqualification of Arab Parties
Jerry ,   New York, USA   (01.19.09)
The courts will uphold the disqualification of the Arab parties for numerous reasons, One important reason is that some who would have voted for the Arab lists will add their names to Labor or Kadima. This is a method of increasing these parties' power in the Knesset and thus compensating for their losses due to their policies that favor European models rather than the unique Jewish character of the state. Why would these parties wish to favor failing models anyway?
16. 100% Justification in booting them out
Talula ,   Israel   (01.19.09)
They were not given seats in the Knesset to spew out daily doses of venom against Israel and its policies. They were not given seats in the Knesset to divide Arabs and Israelis - which is what they are very apt in doing. Instead of exercising their right to make things better, they made things worse for everyone. Their behaviour was borderline treason. Kick them out, they have no business being there. There are other parties that'll take care of the Israeli Arab's needs.
17. to #14 Germany
Marcelo ,   Eurabia   (01.19.09)
Try and think a hollander is in the Ratshaus in Berlin deciding what to do with your life....that is the kind of opposition you are requesting. Likud, Labor, Beiteinu ARE opposition BUT they are all israelis, whanting the best for Israel and not the destruction as arabs do....see the difference....
18. What's good for the Jew,so to speak
Arie ,   BaGolan   (01.19.09)
In 1988, the same commission banned the Kack party for extremism, racism, and promoting activity against the interests of the State, SOUND FAMILIAR? What is the difference between that and what balad and ual are doing? balad and ual promote our demise, they routinely promote riots in arab towns, and constantly push for attacks on our civil authorities. If Jewish extremists can be be banned, why not 5th column arabs?
19. marti #14-Even a democracy has its limits
Arie ,   BaGolan   (01.19.09)
NO democracy allows their seats of government to allow terrorists to use that seat as a plenum to advocate the death of the very state whose seat they attend. DOES GERMANY ALLOW NAZIS? Well the, no difference!
20. 14
zionist forever   (01.19.09)
There are still Germans who believe in the Nazi ideals and would like to see a return to Nazism. Would the German parliament say there must be place for opposition inicluding neo nazis or would they say thre is no place for neo nazi parties in 21st century Germany? These arab parties are being disqualified because their ideologies and policies break the law. These are also not the only arab parties there is still Hadash and they havn't broken any rules so nobody is saying don't let them stand. There is to much competition in Israel so you can't argue we are trying to drive out competition. A party has already been banned from standing in the Knesset before in the late 80s & early 90s the far right and racist jewish party Kach So we have a precident of banning parties and the only party so far to be banned is a jewish party so the arabs can't claim this is only something thatis done to them. You can still have democracy and at the same time set limits on what is considered acceptable.
21. #14 - marti, Read the German Constitution...
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (01.19.09)
Read the German Constitution, in particular Article 20, Paragraph 4: All Germans have the right to resist any person seeking to abolish the constitutional order if no other remedy is available. Even the Federal Republic of Germany knows that democracy has its limits and that those political parties whose principles are out of sync with the constitution must be banned. Educate yourself before making erroneous statements, marti...
22. limited democracy
marti ,   hamburg/germany   (01.19.09)
Like you,i am not sure, what is -the solution-but maybe its the dicussion about this, who makes a sense by itself. If there is no public discussion between that parties, nobody will know how wrong the one or other is in different parts of their political "programm".On that way there will grow a kind of fairytale, that israels democracy is not a real one and the arab minority is not allowed to open their mouth in public. to#14: i am sure, that there are many people in USA,who are afraid to be ruled by a "black"person.Nobody belives, that one of that arab parties will rule Israel one time, and no normal wants it!Including me.Can Arabs be partiotic Israelis, like turkish politcans be in german goverment? If you dont try,you will not find out. The world needs Israel! Shalom and thank you for talking to me about these things without fanatism :) Excuse my bad english and thank you for trying to understand it.
23. What Constitutional Right??????????
new oleh ,   northern israel   (01.19.09)
Israel is NOT a democracy: we don't elect representatives. Our parties decide who gets the fun. & there is NO constitution in Israel--wake up!! I wish i was wrong. If somebody can post a link to a copy of it, I'd love to see it!
24. to21 Joe
marti ,   germany   (01.19.09)
... did you read it completely? You said it by yourself : if three is no other remedy availabble. But before that, there must be democrati votings if its possible!
25. 24 - being democratic is not the same as voting
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (01.19.09)
being a democratic state includes the right to vote, but also guaranteed minority rights, which israel guarantees all arabs of this state. hence the fact that israel even permits these blowhard arab MK's be actually seditiously treasonous and part of the government and still israel upholds the rights of the arab community despite their best efforts to harm those rights. dictators love voting, but the test of a democracy is whether the laws of liberty are enforced. (besides, these arabs can run for office in this election, just their parties are not deemed worthy because of the anti-democratic [not anti-vote] stance of their principles. if you don't understand that, you don't understand democracy.)
