In most countries whenever a new member of Parliament is installed, they have to swear an oath of allegiance to the country. Does Israel not have a similar system. It would be good if each year, each knesset member INDIVIDUALLY swore such an oath to the State to confirm his/her allehiance.

If I ever had qualms about it, I don't anymore. Lieberman is the right person to have a strong hold in the government. The Arabs have gone too far - we should throw out the window any considerations of democracy, when dealing with people who openly support terrorism!

Can you please define the loyalty to the state of Israel? Seems like it is a very elastic concept. Lieberman's idea of loyalty is obviously very different from mine. Please let us know what loyalty covers so that we can happily decide whom to kick out of Israel.

For years Arabs - Muslims and Christians and Jews, immigrants and Sabras, and people of other religions have lived in harmony. This is particularly true in the North of Israel. Here we work together and shop together. We are treated by the same doctors in the same hospitals. We fix each other’s cars and install cable and satellite TV. Jews buy from Arabs and Arabs buy from Jews. OK, Israel hit Gaza VERY hard but this is because Hamas, please see their charter, calls for the destruction of the State of Israel. Surely as an Arab the questions you should be asking are: 1. Are our Arab MK's really looking after the interests of the Arab Citizens of Israel? 2. How can Hamas allow its people in Gaza to suffer in the way they are suffering? Everyone knows Israel is here to stay and so are the Arabs here in Israel. I can understand your sympathy with the Palestinians but surely this operation was completely unnecessary and would not have happened if Hamas had not broken the truce. Yes, we have all heard Hamas' claim that Israel broke the truce by not opening the "crossings" and we know that Hamas fired missiles during the truce. The Israeli Arabs must decide whether they want to be "citizens" or "residents". If it is the latter the State will have to decide what allowances, health services and National Insurance are to be given to people who just live in Israel with no allegiance to Israel and, by your words, do not recognize our right to exist. Just remember, that Jews have been living here for more than 5,000 years. 3,000 years longer than Christians who were once Jews, Romans and Greeks and 4,300 years since the birth of Islam and we have every right to be here. The Israeli Arabs I am sure would rather continue the status quo rather than risk a Jewish economic and political backlash. The attitude of your representatives is not very different to that of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders which is to live for the deaths of their people while they hide in bunkers or live in luxury in Damascus!

Tibi essentially says that Lieberman has no right to speak because 1)he was not born in Israel and 2)he does not speak Hebrew well. Aside from being stupid and childish, Tibi a)has no respect for the rules of the Jewish State (Jewish immigrants are welcome) and b)uses what is essentially a racist argument: "you speak funny". Lieberman speaks accurately: 1)Tibi's actions have been that of a terrorist supporter who could be characterized as a terrorist. He meets with terrorist leaders among other negative acts. 2)He and many other Arab party members show no loyalty to the Jewish State and actively seek to undermine it. In states, as with people, one does not endlessly tolerate people who wish to actively destroy you and who act on it. I cannot understand the response of some posters, although maybe the answer is that you yourselves come from Europe--in the US one does not tolerate--at least until the past 15 years--political parties aimed at destroying the country. As for Lieberman's rough edges...it's his policies and how he hews to them that are more important. Does he deliver? Is he honest? Does he defend the country? Does he support Jewish values? These are more significant than his presentation, unless you are sucxked in by American-type spin and smoke and mirrors.

Most Jewish Israelis who are immigrants are from Africa and Arab countries who threw them out, not Europe. And the European Jews have ancestors who came from Palestine.
