What is Israel's operative response to delusion? The Olmert government claimed that it could achieve deterrence simply by inflicting massive damage on Gaza while leaving Hamas intact. That's rather elitist. Would have made a lot more sense to destroy the regime while sparing the civilians. And obviously the result would have been better. Eliminating the terrorists would have deterred the civilians from continuing the terrorist attacks. They just want to be left alone.
