When it comes to protecting ourselves from forces that side with our enemies, i have no problem with throwing the democracy out of the window. The enemy does not have any rules but i have to obide by rules of "democracy" NO F....G WAY!!!!
32. Have No Doubt,Arabs Will Eventually
Lawrence ,   Safed Chelm   (01.21.09)
Defeat Israel, for all its crappy hi-tech toys and nuclear weapons it can NEVER use.The arabs are clever, determined and motivated and will not give up.They are also encouraged by supreme court of Israel and Meretz party.
33. Not surprising. But YB's strategy was the wrong approach.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (01.21.09)
Rather than use the sledge hammer of banning parties, a focus on candidate eligibility and conformance to national norms would be tougher for the court to challenge. It might be tough to include national service as an eligibility requirement. But individual candidates could be disqualified if they advocate the violent overthrow of the government, have been convicted of supporting terror front groups, etc. An oath of office requiring one to defend the state "against all enemies, foreign or domestic" could be used to dismiss those who violate that oath, as by visiting enemy states without authorization. Drop parliamentary immunity while you're at it. It's too often used to shield them from prosecution, and everyone should abide by the Rule of Law.
34. Time for a military junta to
Ben Israel ,   Kiryat Arba   (01.21.09)
overthrow the government and put the oslo criminals and the court on trial for treason
35. Of course Kach will be able to run now as well...
David ,   Montreal, Canada   (01.21.09)
Want to bet? More suicidal Jewish over-intellectualization!
36. Definition of a TRUE Democracy
Liam ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (01.21.09)
Take note neighbors, this is the epitome of a TRUE democracy. No other country in the world has parliament representatives openly advocating the destruction of their own country and supporting terror. As much as I hate these traitors, I am proud to be Israeli!
37. A Very Balanced Decision
Shimon Z. Klein ,   Bat Hefer, Israel   (01.21.09)
The decision of the High Court to revoke the ban on the participation of the United Arab List-Ta`al-Balad is a wise one and proves once again the impartiality of the Israeli Courts. The Central Elections Committee which pandered to the right wing parties and tried to ban the Arab List on grounds that were unproven, rather on an anti-Arab emotional whim very typical of these right wing racist parties (there are no shortage of them in Kadima, Likud and Labour as well) which supported the decision. It is very important that the Arab voice is heard as refusing to hear their voice will force them underground and extremism will result as well as a danger to Israeli democracy. Arabs who are citizens of Israel have a right to be represented in the Knesset. One cannot expect them to support Zionist Parties that represent majority Jewish interests and not their interests. If the Arab Parties are banned then all that will be left is a Zionist democracy which is exclusive to Zionists only.
38. The Courts ruling is wrong.

39. The "flimsy evidence"
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (01.21.09)
was the immoral court decision.
40. #37 Are you for real or what?
Menachem ,   Israel   (01.22.09)
Nobody expects Arabs to become passionate Jewish nationalists. However, as citizens of a democratic Jewish nation-state their civic rights are inseparable from their civic obligations which includes LOYALTY towards the state. The argument that Israel tries to prevent Arab representation in the Knesset is nonsense since the issue here is not ethnicity but racist misconduct by Arab extremists like Tibi and Zahalka. Besides 50% of the Israeli Arabs vote for mainstream Israeli parties and have representatives there. No country in the world would accept that minorities in their midst incite against the existence of the state which grants them civic rights. The real racists are the Arab fascist parties which are supported by extreme left-fringe people like you.
41. Catch-22
Moish ,   Jerusalem   (01.22.09)
Captain Black devised a plan to insure loyalty and patriotism, no soldier was even allowed to eat in the mess hall unless he signed a loyalty oath. Perhaps what we need here is for each citizen to sign a loyalty oath, a pledge of allegiance to the State before being allowed to vote or to receive any government services. Arabs who refuse should be arrested and transferred. We do not need disloyal citizens this goes for people like Vanunu and those who consort and aid our enemies!
42. Ok so where are the Jews in Arab parliaments?
Petra ,   usa   (01.22.09)
tit for tat would be fair, nu? Why give your enemy the key to your gate? Idiocy.
43. Arab parties
Alan J. Weisbard ,   Wisconsin (USA)   (01.26.09)
As a supporter of Israel and its democracy in the Diaspora and in the academic world, I was dismayed by the shabby political exercise of attempting to disqualify Arab parties from participating in the upcoming elections. The metaphor of "apartheid" is growing in the Western world (not to speak of the Islamic world), and one of the rocks on which American support of Israel is based is its commitment to democracy and the rule of law. Particularly with the election and widespread exultation of Barack Obama, the disqualification of parties representing minority communities, in addition to violating democratic values, sends exactly the wrong message to those whose support we seek--and need. I am heartened that Israel's High Court reversed this misbegotten action, but saddened that their intervention was necessary.
44. I am deeply shocked
Internationalist ,   Mannheim, Germany   (01.28.09)
It says here that racist slurs won't be published. Yet I see a lot of anti-Arab bigotry in the comments. It is reminiscent of the anti-Jewish bigotry of Nazi Germany. Very sad. Israelis and Arabs need to unite against the vile ideologies of Zionism and Islamism. Both are poison.
