1. Prioritizing Middle East Peace
Ronald Shiffman ,   United States   (01.21.09)
The Arabs have proven over and over again that they don't want peace with the Jewish state. No one can force 325 million people in 25 countries to accept a peace that they don't want. Israel can stand on her head. Obama can stand on his head. It won't help. Everyone falls into the same trap which is set by the Arabs - 'you have to do something about Israeli intransigence or the region will blow up'. So here we go again. Same US policies leading nowhere. I wish Obama's Israel 'experts' would learn something from the 'Wall Street experts' who have lead the world to financial ruin all the while they were collecting fat paychecks. The lesson would be: stay home; save gas; leave Israel alone. The Palestinians will adjust as soon as they believe that the US will not save them

4. My concern is the price Israel pays.
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (01.21.09)
"Regarding foreign aid, the statement says Obama and Biden "defend and support the annual foreign aid package that involves both military and economic assistance to Israel" and call for "continuing US cooperation with Israel in the development of missile defense systems." This aid has an enourmous price for Israel's sovereigty. The US seems to sight long term interests in the region (and not according to our long term aspirations),while Israel seems to take this aid with a short sight view, not understanding their long term aspirations in the region. I think we should be as cunning as they are and ,above all, set moral conditions to this aid:not everything should be possible to accept. Aid can not be slavery;if it means slavery,it is better not to have it and set a more fair exchange of interests, that is not going to be called "aid"anymore.

God told the patriarch Abraham, "I will bless those who bless you and the one (Bush? Obama?) who curse you, I will curse? America is hurting. How much more do Americans want to hurt? Do Americans what to become a 2nd, 3rd or 4th rate world power? Do Americans have a death wish? Why do Americans support this?

16. Roland #11: Look at you; look at yourself!
Steve   (01.22.09)
England is a basket case. Just look at you! England was, only a few decades back, a great world empire; a great nation. Look at you now. Look at your sad state of existence. My goodness, England is so pathetic. Such a wretch of a once former great world power. This is what happens, Roland, to those who curse Israel. Just look at you!
17. Pretty words, but time will tell to truth.

I no longer belive the Gazans will ever accept Israel as a partner in peace. Certainly not as long as Hamas is the leader of their state!
18. Doesn't he have weightier matters on his plate?
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (01.22.09)
Ronald Shiffman (#1) writes, "The lesson would be: stay home; save gas; leave Israel alone. The Palestinians will adjust as soon as they believe that the US will not save them" There's too much common sense here to be taken seriously. The hundreds of billions in oil payments is money that could be spent or invested locally. Reliance on that flow of oil means we're constantly sucking up to the oil sellers, which reduces our freedom of action. But it's the obsequious attention to what should be a local dispute, the determination to "solve" this problem has the unintended consequence of perpetuating it. If the world would have told the Palestinians to "grow up" and helped them find new homes, rather than nurture the hope that they'll undo the events of 1948, we could have moved on long ago. Obama, like so many before him, will foolishly struggle to reach that "grand bargain", and try to pay for it in Israeli coin. But punishing an ally and allying with enemies is a recipe for failure.
19. More of the same
MC ,   UK   (01.22.09)
Here we are again. More of the same nonesense. They don't want a Palestinian state and nor do we. Wake up and concentrate on fighting terror or it will only fight you!
20. #2 LEE-I agree .You forgot "CONFIDENCE BUILDING GESTURES"
Alan ,   SA   (01.22.09)
21. The world is sick of America
Outsider ,   AU   (01.22.09)
face it, you are a has been. It's over, Obama is not going to make any difference. He is only proof of the American reality, running scared and looking for someone to blame. You are so desperate thaty even Obama became an option. He is only proof of Amerca's failure and bankrupt sustems. Don''t scapegoat Israel or Bush for your collapse, it's all on the individual level, each one of you created your overall failure. Take individual responsibility for a change instead of blaming a country fighting for it's survival such as Israel. TAKE STOCK!
22. steve # 12
stephen ,   ludlow. usa   (01.22.09)
And in that day I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people : All that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, Though all people of the earth be gathered against it. zachariah 12:3 THE REST THAT FOLLOWS IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN! be sure of that.
23. Foreign Aid
Bombo ,   USA   (01.22.09)
Israel can stand on its own with its own resources, its insistence on hatred and war will always prevents its own self sufficiency, (why cant they work it out?) so an exisitance at the behest of US governments is the only way Israel will ever exist.
24. Remove all settelment = 2 states = peace
Yossi the normal Jew   (01.22.09)
As long Israel do not remove the settelment it is imposible to have 2 states and imposible to have peace. Obama need to order Israel to remove the settelmnts, without this it is all talking and talking.
25. Obama should know : Israel is the land of the jews!
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (01.22.09)
It should be remembered that in 1918, with the fall of the Ottoman Empire, Britain and France were handed 5,000,000 square miles to divvy up and 99+% was given to the Arabs to create countries that did not exist previously. Less than 1 % was given as a Mandate for the re-establishment of a state for the Jews on both banks of the Jordan River. In 1921, to appease the Arabs once again, another three quarters of that was given to a fictitious state called Trans-Jordan. (Jack Berger, May 31, 2004.) The total for all the 22 Arab League countries is 6,145,389 square miles (SM). By comparison, all 50 states of the United States have a total of 3,787,318 SM. Israel has 8,463 SM, about one-sixth of that of the State of Michigan. Iran, Turkey, Pakistan and Afghanistan are Muslim but not Arab and are not included. World Arab population: 300 million; World Jewish population: 13.6 million; Israel's Jewish population: 5.4 million. More at : http://xrl.us/bi5c6

As always, you & the rest of your nothing country will howl like a stuck pig for the Yanks to race to the rescue when disaster strikes, or you begin to encounter serious threats.
27. "incontrovertible commitment" ="Auschwitz borders"?
Wisconsin Marshall ,   USA   (01.22.09)
Mind numbing two-state solution mantra, meaning nothing more than a 22nd Arab state, this one west of the Jordan River bringing the Israeli heartland within easy missile range. Even if I agreed with this formulation, conditions have to ripe, conditions are not ripe, and forcing solutions like this pose great danger to Israel and potentially greater instability within the region as everyone jockeys for position. There will always be some combination of Arab or Islamic states in league with terror groups which will try to eliminate the Jewish State of Israel. ...I'm not certain Obama fully understands the face of evil, in this case jihadist radical Islam. Before they were kidnapped and brought on board the EU, the Czech leadership voiced support for the Israeli action in Gaza. Having seen the face of evil in Hitler and Stalin, the Czechs reacted instinctively. Political correctness has now stifled them. I'm afraid we're headed in this direction again.
28. Two-state solution
Hector   (01.22.09)
I can see a two-state solution with a twenty-mile corridor between Gaza and the West Bank that cuts Israel in half. This will make it easier to fire rockets and infiltrate with suicide vests to make Israel a living hell.
29. hey aussie
USA   (01.22.09)
