32. High Court
Brad ,   USA   (01.23.09)
Obviously, Israel has the same prob lem that we, in the US, have. People in positions of authority, who are either suicidal, or on the side of their enemies. Your "high court' just made it easier for Muslims to subvert your government and nation. In the US, the Osama Obama administration, congress, and a lot of the courts will be doing the same thing. Brace yourself Israel. Obama was backed openly by Hamas. He's just as much your enemy as he is ours.
33. Democracy is related to voting (majority rules) NOT
John Phee ,   Sydney   (01.24.09)
I wonder if the antient greeks who developed democracy would agree. It was related to the ability to vote & who had right to vote, not the "opposite to that". To some degree disent was permitted but not treason or sedition. Tibi & Co. are anti-Israel, simple. That is not wrong in itself but how they voice it is. What would happen if troops refused to go to Gaza or anywhere else for that matter & said "Tibi told me". Tibi thinks that been anti-Israel will get him votes from Arab Muslims. His comment are dragging Arab Muslims away from being (or trying) to be part of Israel. It only helps those in Israel (the right extremists) who want to see every Arab Muslim as an anti-Israel extremist.. This then gets him more votes from the now disaffected. Clever ploy but it is still treacheous. Tibi must go. If he stays & gets more votes them Muslim Arabs will be seen as traitors (unfairly). If he gets less votes then a clear message will go out to Israeli's of all views, that there are limits & that in a time of crissis supporting the national enemy is not acceptable. It is now up to Israeli Muslim Arabs to vote to determine for at least a generation how they want the rest of Israel to se them, friend or foe. It's their choice now.
34. Do Okon say the same about Kahane & Kach bet not
John Phee ,   Sydney AUSTRALIA   (01.24.09)
I also would not like to see Kahane in office but if Okon is honest his comments MUST apply equally to Kahane as to Tibi. But wasn't he silent or did he agree that keeping out an extremist right winger was a good move. I honestly can't recall.
35. a Jewish AND democratic state
The Wise Bard ,   Madison, WI (USA)   (01.26.09)
As a supporter of Israel and its democracy in the Diaspora and in the academic world, I was dismayed by the shabby political exercise of attempting to disqualify Arab parties from participating in the upcoming elections. The metaphor of "apartheid" is growing in the Western world (not to speak of the Islamic world), and one of the rocks on which American support of Israel is based is its commitment to democracy and the rule of law. Particularly with the election and widespread exultation of Barack Obama, the disqualification of parties representing minority communities, in addition to violating democratic values, sends exactly the wrong message to those whose support we seek--and need. I am heartened that Israel's High Court reversed this misbegotten action, but saddened that their intervention was necessary.
