1. My father used to say:
LegalEagle   (01.27.09)
"Dont have an inquiry - unless you know what the result will be".
2. I think I will sue too
Dan   (01.27.09)
for not completely wiping out Hamas. Israel should issue indictments for all the PA and Hamas leaders for engaging in the war crime of suicide bombing and using civilian facilities to launch military attacks.
3. The committee to investigate why Sderot
Gerry ,   Boston   (01.27.09)
was not protected, and why all Gaza was not pulverized after a rocket fell on Sderot. Olmert/Livni/Peretz/Barak should be in jail for rockets on Sderot.
4. hamas: "carter can be trusted"
david ,   new york   (01.27.09)
its beshert: they deserve each other
5. Israel Shouls Sue
Ally ,   Haifa   (01.27.09)
What a great idea. Israel should sue Hamas for encouraging suicide bombs and rockets. Maybe they could have tried this before going to war.... But back to this article, I agree 100% with the fact that the leaders anfd politicians who made the decision to go to war, are the ones who should go overseas to stand trial. Not the soldiers. It is time that the leaders of this country take responsibility for their own actions.
6. This will all pass
Danny   (01.27.09)
I bet not a single claim makes it to court. They will either not be filed or they will be thrown out as every single other "war crimes" claim against has been. Of course by then everyone will assume Israel has committed this "crimes". What Israel should be doing is aggressively suing people and companies for libel. As for an inquiry, what for? You honestly think anyone who believes Israel is committing "genocide" is going to be convinced by something as trivial as the truth?
7. Intimidation tactic to frighten soilders in the future?
Stewart ,   U.S.A.   (01.27.09)
Soildiers needed to fire at any target firing at them, not just sites launching rockets.
8. Okon, read this from another e-journal. Get a grip on truth!
Stewart ,   U.S.A.   (01.27.09)
The talking points blast Hamas for "intentionally and systematically endangering civilians by imbedding themselves within the civilian population," and condemn Hamas's "despicable methods of warfare" which "have forced the IDF to fight within densely populated areas." From the Jerusalem Post
9. EU first must arrest zionist citizens who serve in IDF
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (01.27.09)
Some zionist jews came to Israel from all over the world and serve in IDF and therefore many Non-israeli or double nationality zionist participated in massacres , EU first must arrest zionist citizens who serve in IDF
10. I WANT ISRAELIS TAKE RESPONSIBILTY BUT THE LEADERS.
A CIVIL UPRISING ,   ATİLLA KARAGÖZOĞLU   (01.27.09)
11. The legal part..
Judy Balint ,   jerusalem, israel   (01.27.09)
For anyone interested in a serious look at the legal issues involved in universal jurisdiction, take a look at the Global Law Forum article about it at http://www.globallawforum.org/ViewBlog.aspx?ArticleId=31
12. Give me a Break!
Mike ,   Raanana ISRAEL   (01.27.09)
International law and inquires, are you kidding? What for; did anyone ask or raise questions in the international community about all of the atrocities that were committed against Israelis by these criminal terrorists. No!!! It's time to know that if anything, we did not do enough to hurt Hamas and in fact the civilians, well, they voted for this party, knowing darn well their charter calls for our destuction. I say, don't feel guilt, counter sue, the terrorist organization, but don't invite any inquires from the international community, heaven forbid!!
13. Boaz Okon needs a brain
Roberto ,   Montev ideo Uruguay   (01.27.09)
The issue here is not if all what Israeli soldiers did was kosher. The issue is that the judges and courts who would take matter in these issues are not kosher, since the world is highly antisemitic and double standard against jews and israelis. Besides, no war is free of war crimes, except inte he mind of descerebrated Boaz Okon and if you dont back up your soldiers you will have pussycats in the next war and you will loose it. You dont need to be intelligent to understand this, you only need a brain.
14. Conditions met by IDF inquiry
Ilan ,   Ariel   (01.27.09)
There is no requirement for a special inquiry above that of the IDF in order for Israel to fulfill the condition of "to adequately look into events and indict the responsible parties for alleged war crimes". Of course, the IDF isn't acceptable to the self-proclaimed human rights groups and no Israeli body would be acceptable to them as well. So back to where we came from.
15. #14, thats why it is a waste of time
Danny   (01.27.09)
No matter what any Israeli or any other commission says, if it doesn't come back with "guilty" then it will be accused of lying. Look at cluster bombs in South Lebanon, Israel claimed the allegations were untrue and still Mr Guiness of the UN repeats them despite the fact that two and half years of intensive demining later that less than 3% of the munitions he claims exist have been found. I am afraid some people are just pathological liars.
16. the most one must to pay
walid ,   jerusalem   (01.27.09)
is the bbomb the white and tikny coulour phosphorouse the tmg and sld and kur and jjj .... all are weapons new and more than new how to judge weapons not in box but inside the life of children
17. Detainment
Brad ,   USA   (01.27.09)
Any "detainment" of any Israeli soldier should be treated as an act of war. No words required. Just hit back, hard and often.
18. So why did the State shy away from launching such inquiry?
Grosselli ,   Roma Italy   (01.28.09)
Because it would lead to the top.
19. How many inquiries did Russia did over Chechnya?
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (01.28.09)
Boaz Okon, answer me this: How many lawsuits in international courts were filed against Russian generals following Russia's massacres of 100,000 civilians in Grozni? How about lawsuits against NATO's generals for their indiscriminant bombing of Serb civilians? So long as Russia and NATO are not held accountable for their horrific war crimes, we shouldn't have to defend ourselves in the legal arena, for doing much less severe, and much more justified actions.
20. "Did Russia do" I meant.
Tahl ,   Ashdod   (01.28.09)
I would appreciate it if the editors would correct this mistake, thank you.
21. fight fire with fire
arthur ,   jersey city usa   (01.28.09)
the charges against Israelis will be filed regardless, they seek to isolate Israel and Israelis, file charges against saudi, hamas, plo fatah, pa syria hezbouleh leaders isolate them why should they be free to travel or deliver messages before world bodies if Israelis are barred
22. Link
Noura Yom ,   France   (01.28.09)
the link leads to "The Global Law Forum at the Jerusalem Center of Public Affairs. How do you want us to believe what is said in it.?
23. I agree but ...
Shaalan J ALDhafair ,   saudi arabia   (01.28.09)
I agree with most of the writer opinion but do you think that some fundamentalist leaders in IDF army some times apply the battle plans that already admitted by officials but with dirty ways which the officials don't agree with it. the Inquiry will increase the division between the plotical and military institutions. so the interests between the two forbid any sever friction such as Inquiry. the shame that you say about it not in your dictionary and history justify that. the destructions reason already known Safety of Israel. Unfourently you always killed children and leave the fighters increasing and the resistance be praised.
24. #22, Would expect you to look at the content
Danny   (01.29.09)
not just who wrote it. PS I assume you have no difficulty believing the Palestinian "sources", despite the number of times they have out and out lied?
