1. this is a fallacy!
oded   (01.27.09)
indeed the holacaust was a painfull and traumatic event in our lives, but it only expediated the formation of the state of israel, it wasn't ""the cause"". the balfour declaration and the league of nations' resolution to establish a jewish homland took place well before the holocaust. the arab world must come to grips that israel is here to stay... maybe then, only then we can talk about peace and c- exeistance. maybe....
2. Modern Zionism began on the 19th century
Zionist   (01.27.09)
Modern Zionism began much before WWII and the Holocaust.
3. Move toward peace and understanding by learning the past
Daniel ,   NY, USA   (01.27.09)
This is an excellent step forward. I don't think the Arabs have done as much damage to the Nation of Israel as the Germans did, yet we are constantly fighting them. It's not right. When Arabs understand more about where the Jews are coming from, and what returning to the land of Israel means in the context of the Holocaust, as well as in the context of 2,000 years of exile, hopefully this will decrease the violence and hatred between the Arab and Jewish communities.
4. 1000 stories, lies, diversions - IT'S ALL ABOUT JIHAD
Mandrake ,   The Lie Factory   (01.27.09)
10 points to the Palestinian Arabs for yet another masterful display of projective blame. Their stated aim is the destruction of Israel - total conquest - JIHAD. Their lives are devoted to it. All these side shows are a means to this end. If these people would just put a fraction of this energy into something constructive - they would not be "footing the bill" for their own pain. They are in morass of their own doing and thoroughly deserve everything they are getting. ZERO EMPATHY FROM ME.
5. Holocaust exhibit
Byron ,   Dallas, USA   (01.27.09)
This is a great step forward for the arabs. This is great against those that teach them that the Holocaust never happened. I just hope that one day we can live in peace as brothers again. Now, they just need to educate themselves about how we were living in Israel for over 2000 years and not only 60.
6. Though zionism predated Holocaust, curators are 100% correct
(01.27.09)
By understanding the Jewish psyche and pain and renouncing violence the Palestinians will permit the Arabs and Jews in the Middle East to have a shot at coexistence. The Palestinian curator's statements regarding Palestinian tactics and Jewish reactions out of fear of existential threats is very apt and perceptive.
7. Very wise words !
Hertzel H'Tveriani ,   Israel   (01.27.09)
I read this article in awe at the initiative of these wise persons ! May the lord of Israel and Ishmael (same one to my knolege...) bless these people and have them spread this among their muslim brothers to bring real peace to all of us!!!
8. Well said. It's the colonial and racist Europe once again
(01.27.09)
The same Europe is now well prepared to discriminate Muslims, Arabs, blacks, and almost any non-Europeans living in Europe. How two faced is that the Europe is promoting itself as the civilised center of the world and spreading democracy, human rights etc... Pufff! Inquisitions, colonialistm, racism, genocides, massacres, discriminations all deeply rooted in European history and minds.
9. some facts the Arabs should learn
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (01.27.09)
Jews were always present in Israel. Jewish immigration from the Galut began in the early 1800s, and increased in the early 1900s. The massive Arab immigration to Israel began in the 1920s due to the improved economy the Jews started. Although the Arabs attacked Jews from the beginning, the organized calls for genocide began in the 1920s. The Shoah did nothing to help the Jews reestablish Israel in 1948. Rather, the British consistently helped the Arabs with arms and training, while preventing Jewish immigration.
10. Neither Balfour declaration nor Holocaust
Adam ,   Chicago   (01.27.09)
Well....Palestinians has nothing to do with the pain caused to the Jews in 1940ies.... Also Balfour has no right to give a land that it’s not his own to a third party (Israel). That makes Israel in a bad shape and considered illegal and illegitimate state.
11. Arabs pay the price of 3 attempted genocides
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (01.27.09)
1948, 1967 and 1973. Our Arab neighbors need to wake up and smell the coffee: The more they try to destroy us, the more they bring destruction upon themselves.
12. To 10, Balfour had every right
Scott ,   San Diego, CA   (01.27.09)
Prior to WWI, this land was under Turkish authority. Not Arab. After WWI, it was under British Mandate. Not Arab. So certainly, the British had every right to adjudicate matters. They lost the lives in battle, they and the French got the spoils. From this point, every other modern state in the region came into being, from Jordan, to Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Saudia Arabia. No one disputes those creations. As for the Jews in their land, Jews had LEGAL ownership of much of the land parcelled to them in their half of the partittion. Entirely justifiable and warranted for the Brits to grant a state to them. We even have accounts of Jews and Arabs swapping land to smooth the borders. But the point remains: Israel is Legal, and what the Brits did is Legal. Get this, if nothing else: IF there had been no attacks by the Arabs in 1948, there would be no refugees.
13. Do you feel the pain only when the Jews has to suffer ?
(01.27.09)
Why you don't feel the pain you cause to the Palistinians since more than 60 years , only Jewish pain the world has to feel it and the rest of the world can go to hell with their pain , are we not all the same humanbiengs , we feel the same pain and we suffer the same and we get happy too , never think that as much as you kill you are more secured ... never ... forget it .... the Nazi killed millions from you and they lost in the end because the world can not axcept this violence along time and what's going on now the world has enough from you and your massacers all the time and the snacky ways you use all the time when the peace is near ... you are digging your graves by your hands .... or you have wake up .... or one day you will not have enough to pay the bill.
14. Merkel said that?
(01.27.09)
15. Adam, Chicago
Ricardo ,   Brazil   (01.27.09)
Exactly because the Holocaust and Balfour have nothing to do with the pain caused to Palestinians is that the selfdetermination plight of the Jews is the leitmotif to the creation of the State. With or without Balfour and HOlocaust, Israel would exist.
16. silly semantics
(01.27.09)
does anyone really think that if the UN didn't vote in favor of the jewish state to be created, it wouldn't have been created anyway? the war of 48 was bubbling under the surface for 80 years, since the first massive aliyah. All it took was the British mandate to end to set it off. the UN vote didn't do anything. All it did was give legitimacy to people who didn't really care if they had or not.
17. #16 - wrong - but only in part....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (01.27.09)
Partition gave a necessary shot in the arm to everyone here - the Jews that is. Everybody ran around shouting "we have a state! we have a state!" There was dancing in the streets. You may be right - we may have had a state without it, but the vote was more than mere semantics.
18. Joe, Ramat Gan....just like....the Arabs
Maria ,   MD   (01.27.09)
dug a graveyard for their enemies[the Jews],but they were the one who fell into it not the Jews.
19. #10 - Adam
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (01.27.09)
"Well....Palestinians has nothing to do with the pain caused to the Jews in 1940ies..." Google the following term: Hajj Amin al-Husseini, Grand Mufti of Jerusalem "Also Balfour has no right to give a land that it’s not his own to a third party (Israel)." The Balfour Declaration was absolutely meaningless. The terms of it were never enforced by the British, and the British actually did more to actively sabotage the reestablishment of the Jewish state than support it. "That makes Israel in a bad shape and considered illegal and illegitimate state. " Illegal and illegitimate according to which law? Oh, and which law makes the US, the UK or France legitimate states? Also, by your very own logic, the British and the French carving up the Ottoman Empire into Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq makes Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq illegal and illegitimate states because the land wasn't owned by the British and the French- it was stolen from the Turks. Think before you write, my friend...
20. The English and German do not read the same
Don ,   California, USA   (01.27.09)
The English message to Angela Merkel says "why ... continue to pay" but the German just asks "why ... pay". Are the drafters of the poster trying to make a special point to the more impressionable, more nuanced English-speaking folk? Somebody should get off the victim mentality and take charge of their lives.
21. Step In The Right Direction (Read This)
David ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (01.28.09)
I'm heartened to read this, right after I read how Ahmadinejad just had another one of his conferences casting doubt on the holocaust and threatening Israel yet again. Although I am a proud Zionist and feel that Israel has generally been moral in their actions, I think it is necessary for us to acknowledge and apologize for the displacement of about 750,000 Palestinians from their land during the creation of Israel and the subsequent War of Independence. We need to start looking at the conflict through each others' eyes. Arabs: us Jews see ourselves surrounded on all sides by 500 million Arabs, 1.5 billion Muslims, 22 Arab states, 55 Islamic states controlling vast land masses stretching across three continents awash with oil wealth all of which seem to be demanding our blood and unwilling to ever accept a Jewish state in their midst. There are 5.5 million Jewish Israelis, 20% of our population is Palestinian Arab. We have one tiny Jewish state which is mostly dessert. There are only 13 million or so Jews left world-wide. Anti-Semitism (not anti-Israelism or "anti-Zionism") is still rife and brewing beneath the surface throughout the Western and Islamic world. Much of Europe continues to justify the killing of Jews just like for the past 2000 years. We have one true ally in the world for the time being, without which we would probably perish. Jews: Palestinians see themselves as stateless for 60 years, humiliated, occupied, killed, hopeless, forgotten and abandoned by their Arab and Muslim brethren. They see the entire West backing Israel's every move. They see no hope for their children and their people. Both sides are perfectly correct to some extent and have legitimate claims and concerns. I hope that one day we will embrace each other as the long lost cousins that we are. Shalom aleichem and selam aleykum.
22. Anti-Semitism among Arabs and "Palestinians"
Alexander ,   Herzliya, Israel   (01.28.09)
The very hate that brought the Jews out of Israel by force 2000 years ago during Roman occupation of Israel, and the very hate that persecuted Jews for 2000 years culminating in the Holocaust, is the very same hate that today denies the Jews the exclusive right to ALL of the land of Israel from the river of Jordan to the Mediterranean. And the very same hate that produced the Spanish Inquisition and the Pogroms and the Holocaust is the very same hatred that denies and glorifies the Holocaust, caused the Arab wars of aggression on Israel, caused Arab presence in Israel in modern times and caused the creation of the fictional "identity" of the non existent "Palestinian" people - laying claim to our land. If Arabs want to be free of anti-Semtism they must stop laying claim to our land and "Palestinians" MUST move from Israel, Judea, Samaria and Gaza and ADMIT to the world that THERE IS NO "PALESTINIAN" PEOPLE! It is hypocrisy of the Arabs to "feel sorry" for the Jews of the Holocaust and yet deny our right to LIVE in OUR LAND! And remember: Arabs of North Africa and Middle East cooperated with the Nazis during WW2 and the Arab world including Arab occupants in Judea, Samaria and Gaza, is the biggest producer and consumer in the world of Mein Kampf. And the Baath Parties of Iraq and Syria are based on European Fascism. Remember that.
23. Stop hypocrisy!
Raphael ,   Netanya   (01.28.09)
Palestinians are not paying for the Holocaust! They are accountable for the radical ethnic cleansing of 900,000 Jews from arab/muslim countries. They approved it massively, due to their pavlovian antisemitism. Only a very small number (Atef alAtef, Jyrjis) proved an intelligence above reptilian brain, and warned Nuri Said and Heikal Pasha, iraqi and egyptian heads of government, that expelling their Jews and stealing their properties would bolster Israel. If Pals are not satisfied with their plight, they just need apply to their arab brethren.
24. Arabs Are Beginning To Understand.
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (01.28.09)
Mohammad Amira said :” the public should understand the pain and suffering the Nazis caused the Jews.” Khaled Mahmid said :” "The Holocaust was a horrible and methodical murder of six million innocents, which affects all of the citizens of Israel even today.” FINALLY the Arabs are beginning to understand the Holocaust. I like to thank Mr. Amira and Mr. Mahmid for standing up and showing real interest in what happened to the Jewish People during the Second World War.
25. #20 - Don, You're right...
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (01.28.09)
There's a "noch" that's missing in the German sentence. Doesn't matter anyway, this museum is based on premises that are historically false, but certain influential minds in our societies can't possibly be concerned with pesky things such as facts and logic. Like I said before, the Palestinians are paying the price for 3 attempted genocides against the Jewish people (4 if you count the Grand Mufti's involvement in the Holocaust), not the Holocaust itself. Don't forget, Don, that standing up to this idiocy is as easy as telling the truth...
26. Instead of blaming their arab brothers..
Daniel ,   Rehovot, Israel   (01.28.09)
they blame the Jews of course. They have forgetton who provoked the 48 war. That is their nature-the declare war, and after they defeated they cry to the world. So instead of crying to the world all day long start building your country by yourselves and blame the arrogant arab leaders who left you behind and throw some petro-dollars to shut your mouth up. I dont remmember the jews asking land from germany, in fact if we asked land from every country that persecuted us we'd have own 15% of the world.
27. #22... well said
Benjamin ,   Cayman Islands   (01.28.09)
Alexander (Sasha?) you articulated what I've felt since Cast Lead began... And from when I read Bibi's "It's our land" quote a decade ago. It's. Our. Land. Shalom, my brother... Benjamin
28. A good step... | #14
Soeren ,   Cologne/Germany   (01.28.09)
... forward towards rationality. Being open for historical facts is always a good starting point. With people like Mr Amira and Mr Mahmid the Palestinians would have founded their state in 1948 – based on a rational compromise. I'm sure that the Palestinians did suffer a lot as well. But they deserve more understanding for that only if they are honest and ready to admit their own mistakes as well. That exhibition in Naalin is a good beginning to acknowledge reality. #14: Merkel did not say that. I guess the poster wants to ask a question to Chancellor Merkel...
29. Naalin has Jewish advisors
Z Lando ,   Tekoa, Israel   (01.28.09)
Only a sick Jewish leftist would think this up.... the same that go there each Friday for fun - throwing stones and molotov coktails at IDF soldiers...
30. @14
era ,   Jlem, Israel   (01.28.09)
No, Merkel did not. It is a question to her as the leader of the country responsible for the Shoa.
