1. It would have been more interesting ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (02.03.09)
If the study had included non-Jewish Americans in their survey as a separate catagory. My guess is that Americans generally have a favourable attitude towards Israel & American Jews follow the general American trend.
2. Age difference?
Jewish Israeli ,   Jerusalem   (02.03.09)
Was the response different among different age groups? Many studies have shown that a not small number of younger American Jews are not very interested in Israel or the Jewish religion.
3. Terry (#1): Your guess probably accurate

The recent election demonstrated that Left-leaning Americans, who have softer support for Israel, have achieved ascendance. The preponderance of American Jews seem to be even more Left than most of the Demopaths. Thus, my assessment would also agree that their support is discernibly softer than most Demopaths and (what should be embarrassingly and perversely) UNsupportive relative to conservative Christian Republicans. However, I would describe support of American Jews as being "dragged" along by non-Jewish America who are better, often far better, supporters of Israel. These surveys are also notorious for including people who "feel" Jewish--which extends to totally assimilated "Jews" whose motivation is to reject and distance themselves from anything that might cause "Jews" to conflict with goyim around them. By some--responsible--accounts, that amounts to 90+% of American Jewry. If we want to know how American Jews feel, one of the first prerequisites is to figure out which are American Jews as opposed to simply Americans who somehow identify with being Jewish--which ranges from Jews for Jxsus to virtually all gentile Christians. Until they deal with that, I think these polls can only mislead. Sadly, I think the softness of Demopath support for Israel is going to prove significantly injurious to us over at least the next 4 years. That implies deterioration in support from American "Jews." This also carries implications about what can be done to improve this situation. 4. #1,2,3 it's true, american jews support israel
debra ,   usa   (02.03.09)
believe it. just because we live in the u.s., doesn't mean we don't have a strong and genuine feeling of kinship with israel. we do. you are our jewish brothers and sisters.
5. 'affinity' between jews
elliot ,   usa   (02.03.09)
less a question of affinity than existential comnmunity of interest--jews in america as in israel need eachother as much as ever
6. Change
Scott ,   USA   (02.04.09)
There is a growing sense among the Americans and American Jews to have a more critical look at Israel's actions especially after Gaza operation. I hope Israel will come back to its senses soon. Loneliness in the world is not a good thing.
7. as a demopath, obamaphile, zionista

I "reject as false" the need for the "dominion" of the earth sow. prosperity does NOT equal "blessing" "elevation" or "favor" America albeit a fine place for Ben Adom to dwell is not a replacement for Eretz Yisrael. Esav (Rome), Yavan (Greece) and Parthia collectively are in the grips of Qliphoth (the Shells). Consult Tehillim there is a Ma Tsohr attempt against the Bnei Yehudim by the Shekker Achim of the Goyim and their Shekker Naviim. Reject their polemic exclude their avarice; arise as Yaakov - shelter and uphold the cursed poor and retched meek for their's is the Malchut Shamayim.

you do not represent the whole of us sir. In fact your statement is incorrect in terms of actual statistics. American jews as a whole support Israel in all its endeavors and are only critical in terms of making sure that we approach all situations in a humane and morally correct manner. The gaza operation was a necessary evil and one in which the Israeli army excelled both strategically and in terms of making the best out of a terrible situation. As an American jew I proudly stand by Israel and its people and I am proud to say that I have many friends, both jewish and non-jewish, who stand by Israel as well because they know that the world would be a much darker place without it
9. American Jews
Steve ,   LA   (02.06.09)
While older American Jews usually support Israel, many younger ones do not. They are ashamed of Israel's behavior, and usually not too connected to Judaism anyway.
