There are 2 types of war in the Torah. Milchemes Reshus (optional) and Milchmes Mitzvah (commanded or required). The rules you quoted refer to an optional war. In a milchemes mitzvah (required war) the rule is :"Even a groom from his room and a bride from her Chuppah". See the mishna in Sota chapter 8 mishna 7. See also Rambam, Laws of Kings chapter 7 law 4. Any war of defense against an attacking enemy (which this was) is categorized as a commanded war.

44. Newly married and war
Hezi ,   New York   (02.04.09)
The Torah laws about being newly married and not going to war are only applicable in a voluntary war. In the case of self defense these rules don't apply. (Milchemet Mitzvah or Michemet Chova.Rambam Melochim 5, )
