31. safety and loyalty
martine ,   ashdod   (02.05.09)
Professor, I'm sorry to disagree with you. I'm not a extreme rightist but I don't want my country be sold to our ennemies. Liberman expresses what a lot of people think, that is that they are afraid that their children won't live in a Jewish country. Professor, there is ONLY ONE jewish country and it's Israƫl. Why don't you ask Egypt, Jordan, Syria or even Lebanon to take the palestinians and create a state for them. They came from those countries, rejected by their OWN BROTHERS; and, us, as good Jews want to be more than those countries. No, Professor, I'm sorry to tell you that I didn't make my alyah with my children to give a piece of my country. We have the right to live and to keep our country whole. That's not a crime or there are lots of countries that have to give back pieces of their territories. Do you want us to check which one. I'm here.
32. tell the snake eyed bully: NIET ! Vote Meretz
(02.05.09)
If you won't vote Meretz you are strenghening the snake eyed bully ,-a shame to israels democratic country!
33. Be loyal (not terrorist)
Meir ,   Israel   (02.05.09)
I dont want a goverment that part of its members are openly in favor of terrorist gorups that their goal is to kill me and my family, and certanty I dont want my taxes paying them. What Liberman is saying its clear is someone is against the principles and roots of this state and questions our right to be here, he simply cant be a citizen and get all the right of a citizen.
34. "innocent protestors" called to destroy israel with blood
cathrene israel   (02.05.09)
and spirit. . arabs want jews to clear themselves away, so that arabs could live here instead. if arabs didn't support their wishes with actions, there wouldn't even be an army in israel let alone a liberman who speaks his mind anyone who doesn't see the danger arabs pose, is either blind or stupid.
35. Apparently Ynet is running scared if they won't even put...
(02.05.09)
up the wikitionary definition of fascism!
36. sssistant Deouell
Ron ,   Tel Aviv   (02.05.09)
He is simply assistant trying to get job. In Israel, he is a junior lecturer, not professor, jast a junior guy voting for Balad or Meretz.
37. The only problem Professor Deouell...
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (02.05.09)
is that too many of your compatriots, ie. Israeli Jews, will not allow rational thinking to permeate their closed minds as evidenced by the majority of these talkbacks. I am continually amazed by how many of these people speak of the 'leftists' as causing all their problems. Can someone tell me "Since when has an Israeli government been composed of these so-called 'leftists'?. Was it Begin? Shamir? Netanyahu? Sharon? Olmert? Was it Rabin who ordered the IDF to break the bones of Palestinians during the first intifada? I don't remember Meretz or any other 'left'- leaning party having any real policy making power for the last 40 years. In fact, the Israeli 'left' has been marginalized. So, the only approved philosophy has been a right-wing steal all you can zionism. And Lieberman wants to determine who is 'right' enough to be loyal to the state. Can your compatriots spell 'fascism' or is the Israeli educational system completely bereft of intelligence? Acvtually, the only ones I am truly ashamed of is the so-called Americans who approve and applaud the Israeli right-wing. Although they would be appalled if US policy emulated the fascist leanings of the Israelis, they have no problem backing such policies in Israel.
38. Hoping Mr. Liebermans words turn into action!
Jason Asman ,   boston U.S.A.   (02.05.09)
39. SCREW WESTERN DEMOCRACY
USA   (02.05.09)
It's better to live than to die. Nobody gives a shit that Israel is a "democracy" they still support terror and Hamas and the PA.
40. talkbacks confirm the fascist threat
avram moshe   (02.05.09)
Fascism requires the charismatic demagogue but it also requires decent ordinary people who will rationalize their own attraction to his warped ideas. Don't responders to this article realize that while professing the lessons of Weimer and of the shoah they are mimicking the german masses who were willing to sacrifice freedom and their neigbors in pursuit of nationalism and a phony stability... we Jews who are now ignoring history are repeating it and we Jews are once again victims -- victims this time of our own descent into barbarism!
41. Definition of Fascism
think about it 4 a ,   while   (02.05.09)
fascism (plural fascisms) An extreme-right totalitarian political regime ideologically based on centralized government, violently repressing any criticism or opposition of the regime, leader cult and exalting nation-state and/or religion above individual rights. Originally only applied (usually capitalized) to Benito Mussolini's Italy. By vague analogy, any system of strong autocracy or oligarchy usually to the extent of bending and breaking the law, race-baiting and violence against largely unarmed populations. courtesy of wikitionary
42. avramele, personally I would start with the leftist Jews.
AK   (02.05.09)
Move them all to Chelm.
43. #41 - Sounds like Fatah and/or Hamas...
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (02.05.09)
... not Israel and not Avigdor Lieberman. Asking for loyalty among a contingent of society that elects leaders who openly call for the destruction of the state they reside in and whose benefits they enjoy is not fascism- it's being realistic. PS- Fascism also exists among the Left. Does the name Stalin ring any bells for you? How about the name Noam Chomsky?? Think about that "4 a while"...
44. Slippery-slope argument...
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (02.05.09)
... an entire article based on a logical fallacy that any college freshman in a logic class could point out.
45. attacking leftist Jews...
avramele   (02.06.09)
demonizing the leftist Jew as the root of all global evil is another similarity today's rightists have with historical fascism..do the ironies never end...
46. Point is Mr. Liberman won't have a place if not 4 leftist
founders of Israel!   (02.06.09)
47. Avram so on point!
(02.06.09)
48. Rabbi Ovadia is not in favor of this political movement...
(02.06.09)
He knows exactly where it can lead!
49. #39 that's what Mr. Bush did! which is y USA is floundering!
(02.06.09)
and so the entire world has been affected. but hey...you want to live in USA fine by me!
50. I know what the problem is!
Alex ,   Toronto, Canada   (02.06.09)
Problem is that sane people don't run of political office and leave it to loony left.
51. Avramle, the leftists do even worse to the rightists
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (02.06.09)
In fact the leftists started this trend with the demonization of the settlers and of the soldiers sderving in the territories and blaming them for all the evils of Israel. The left has declared war upon the right; driving them out of their homes, disposessing them of their property, and jailing them if they dare to protest, doesn't that sound a little fascist. And that is also how we got into this mess in the first place. Don't compare today's leftists with Ben-Gurion, Eshkol, and Meir; they saw the Arabs as their enemies and the rightist Jews as their allies against them, even if they disagreed with some of their policies. In the world-view of today's leftists the conception of Arabs and rightists is reversed.
52. #40 Avram Moshe, well spoken
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor   (02.06.09)
Like you I am reading these Talkbacks at Ynet with growing alarm. But at the same time I am not suprised. This process of growing intolerance, increasingly hysterical chauvinism, where every form of criticism is shouted down, is the natural outcome in a society that behaves with such brutality against the indigenous Palestinian population under occupation in the Westbank and the Gaza Strip and that considers 20% of its own citizens, the original Palestinians, as a 5th column or potential traitors, because they are non-Jewish. It is sad and desperately tragic to see this fascism on the rise, Avram. Whoever thinks that Palestinians are threatening the existence of Israel as a 'Jewish' state is in denial of the much greater threat that comes from within.
53. #52 jews have 1400 years experience at how arabs are happy
(02.06.09)
to let jews live amongst them, in cities and towns that were built by jews, cities that are a part of israel today, that prospered long before islam existed. you may ask yourself why didn't the jewish community grow here for centuries, when all the jewish prays consisted of the wish to be in jerusalem, and jews were constantly harrassed and killed everywhere. the answer is because arab maintained jewish minority ratio here, and were killing jews here from time to time to keep it. do not underestimate the belief of the arabs, that the middle east should all be controlled by islam. they will do it in any way possible, and now are planning to do it demographically in the small area called israel. israel is one sixth of one percent of the land that is available to the arabs in the middle east, but they have their eye of israel. you may ask yourself why that is, that there are palestinian refugees, when there was never a palestinian state, and palestinians who are arab moslems exactly like any other arab moslems, have invented a palestinian nation. when you will realize that they never had any right to this land, not according to ottoman land registry, and not during the british rule, then you will understand the false propaganda you have been subjected to
54. Clear and present danger
Paul Schnek ,   JacksonHeights US.   (02.06.09)
Yes! this writer represents all the above he writes trash he is one of those to whom the Prophet referred as the distroyers will come from amongst our selves. How fitting!
55. Loyalty
A Salomon ,   Dimona, Israel   (02.06.09)
A basic requirement of a free democratic society is fealty, an oath of loyalty to the nation. In the USA, for example, actions against the nation are punishable by death. These actions need not be vague, as you insinuate. Advocating overthrow of the nation, fraterinization with a nation's enemies, and other acts of treason, are unacceptable. A problem in Israel, that rots out the country from the core, is that treasonable acts here have been historically permitted and characterized as "protest", when they are not. They clearly overstep the boundary of protest and enter another realm that in no other country, including all the world's democracies, would be countenanced. Lieberman is in no global sense a "rightist". If anything, his views are boringly centrist, with a yawn. What is amazing is that there are those in Israel who consider his views radical. This shows just how looney the political dynamic has become in Israel, where treason passes for protest.
56. to samih gaza
soso ,   jerusalem   (02.06.09)
