31. Israeli , They representative of the Jewish people ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.07.09)
Maybe they represent you , but certainly not me NOR the majority of the Jews . The majority of My people has'nt ANY affinity with those "human" beings . Don't be soooo stupid
32. Din Moser, Haredi Rabbi & Child Abuse
Eli ,   Israel   (02.07.09)
This is just another case of fanatical, non-normative Judaism and how it has gone so far off track that it abrogates the basic tenets of faith, rationality and common humanity. Who would dream that a rabbi would do such a thing? He obviously has no conscience nor compassion to allow such treatment of an innocent child, all in order to preserve a way of life that mistreats women, children and turns people into mindless automatons that are totally other directed. Shame on him for the shame he brings to Judaism.
33. # 31- Charles, if you fit the definition
Israeli ,   Israel   (02.07.09)
"a holy man to Jehovah your God and a special man to Him above all men that are upon the face of the earth " then I have nothing to say to you and I leave you in peace!

In America, when they came out with the priest lawsuits, it was like a holy war of sorts had been declared for the protection and defense of these vulnerable Christian children. This is considered very acceptable. Things got to this point, though, because people not taking a defensive stand early on and not taking things seriously.

molestation is more than enough and should be reported immediately. don't we teach our kids that no one can touch their private parts.
36. #2 - Charedi
Josh ,   San Jose, USA   (02.08.09)
In my life, I've worshipped in a wide variety of congregations ranging from Reform to Chasidic. I have never met a rabbi who would behave in this manner. I've never seen a congregation that wouldn't tear a rabbi limb from limb if he cause a child to be abused like this. While I'm sure you are right that this isn't typical, we can't assume it's unique either. If I see one cockroach, I have to assume there are more hiding somewhere. Pedophiles and those who help them are no different. This Rav probably gave a lot of bad (if not criminal) advice in his time. The Charedi community needs to take a closer look at some of the people it's getting spiritual guidance from so they can start weeding out the bad apples. The Catholic Church in the US had a situation like this in the 50's and they assumed that they were dealing with just one or two rogue priests. It turns out that as many as 3% of the priests were preying on children. They let it fester and thousands of children were raped over decades.
37. Israeli [ ? ] not a smart guy
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.08.09)
Yoiu know that i'm VERY secular , and now i'm sure you are'nt smart . I'm fitting this definition : i respect all those who deserve it , not a inexisting definition you call a god .
38. REspect for their ways.
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (02.08.09)
We must respect their ways and let them handle family matters as they please. After all, if we interfere in their family lives, we don't have the right to demand that they don't interfere in ours.
39. Israeli , i'll explain it in a more extensive way
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.08.09)
So you will maybe understand . When i say that they are NOT reprentative of the Jewish people , it's a] their behaviour is not common to all Jews b] A great majority of the Jewish people is'nt ultra orthodox . If you say the contrary , it means that you are a child abuser too .
40. Dorothy , 38 !!!!
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.08.09)
This is not interfering , it's CHILD ABUSE !!!!! This are NO family matters ! Why "interfere" then when there is a murder ?
41. Charles, Charles, Charles
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (02.08.09)
I would never call anyone except a decent anti-child abuse organization and the cops in such a case. I'm just saying that if we expect the religious to respect secular ways, we have to respect them when they operate according to how they see fit in their own families. If I am going to be against religious coersion, I have to be against secular coersion, too. Remember that child rapist from Brooklyn that wasn't sent back to "Goyish Justice" for the same reason? And the Brookly DA was no other than the Nazi Hunter Elizabeth Holzeman at the time. Hardly a goy. But still the man wasn't sent back due to pressure of his new community in Israel. Whom are we to disrespect their wishes?
42. Dorothy ????
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.08.09)
What has case this to do with interfering in their way of life ? If their way of life is to "consult" a rabbi to ask him how to react to this abuse , well being against it is NOT interfering . A child has to be protected by his mother , she has'nt to ask advice , she has to run to the police . I don't know this case of Brooklyn , but to give in on religious pressure in such a case of rape is CRIMINAL .
43. Charles, come on you know me by now....
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (02.08.09)
...I was being sarcastic, making a point of those people who always insist that child abuse only happens among nonreligious, oh come on! But I really do think sometimes that with police and court resources so stretched, why use them for people that consider Jewish policemen and judges in a Jewish state "Goyish Justice" anyway? And really, I am perfectly willing to close a deal with them -- you stay out of our lives, and we'll stay out of yours.
44. Dorothy , a deal at the expense of child abuse ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.09.09)
What they consider is not important , they deserve a harsh punishment , even by what they call "a goyish justice"
45. Child Abuse
Marilyn ,   Usa   (02.09.09)
Israel is going to have a really hard time in trying to get rid of this. At least in America, there's a unified voice against such. And it's not just ideas of these men basically being terrorists and of victims of such, it is also ideas of justice. No ideas of protection of guilty while punishing the innocent! However looking at maybe any one of the abuse cases these are the ideas that people get.
46. Marilyn , WRONG
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.09.09)
In Israel we don't accept child abuse , for us a child has to be protected , the same way as in the USA .
47. GREAT ANTI RELIGIOUS PIECE!!
Mike ,   St. Louis, USA   (02.10.09)
Sorry to kill the anti-rabbi punch of the article, but the rabbi had nothing to do do with the fact that the abuse was not reported. The rabbi said that only one who witnessed the acts may testify. The mother or any of the other witnesses could have testified. In any civil court, only a witnesses' testimony is accepted. Another attempt by Ynet to slander religion.
48. Mike , St Louis
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.10.09)
The article does'nt say that the father had not witnessed some acts . The Rabbi could have asked people who witnessed it to disclose it to the police . If i would hear about child abuse , i would immediately inform Child protection services , but i'm secular and not a Rabbi .

Marilyn ,   USA   (02.10.09)
I hope so, I do get worried and upset though about such, even here. Like with the Catholic Church once it became exposed, a lot was done. They had the grand jury and everything. Had a lot of people demanding protection and justice. It became no mountain high enough. However in some of the Jewish communities, there are the same problems, only it is like other way around. Now just from my observations, it seems like no mountain high enough-to protect the abusers. I can't figure out if the leaders in these communities are thinking that they are innocent, by some stretch, or are just afraid? It is just like not ethical to say to the Catholic child were going to do everything in our power, but to the Jewish child to say your kind of on your own.
50. 3rd Note
Marilyn ,   USA   (02.10.09)
Also forgot to mention if minor says such or someone else even, then law officers put them in the same situation with a wire or some kind of monitor, then not a problem as to not have witnesses.
51. Marilyn # 49
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.11.09)
This problem occurs in every society . But , as in every society , they all condemn it . Here it was not a clergyman , it was a simple citizen . Nobody in higher hierarchy above him to protect him , as it was the case of the church in the USA .
