Tim ,   canada   (02.10.09)
First he goes left by excluding right votes, then goes right to try and recover and looses left votes, result? a looser. Make up you mind and stick to it.
6. Exit polls?
ziggz ,   NJ, US   (02.10.09)
Concluding the winner based on exit polling? Are you aware of the very large margins of error inherit in these exit polls?
7. Wait
J K ,   NYC, NY   (02.10.09)
Let's wait till all the votes are counted. Just because Kadima comes in 1st doesnt mean Livni can cobble together a govt. Doesnt mean Peres will even ask her to do it.
8. BS! Wait until real election results, 2 close between K & L!

10. what next israel ??
RAMALLAH   (02.10.09)
I guess the war on Gaza and killing civilians generated some kind of win to this party. It is still fragmented government. Maybe Kadima can have government with Fatah, and Abbas will be the defense minister. I forgot Mubarak will be the treausre
11. At least half of (voting) Israeli's have given up on the Sta
Tzachi ,   Canada   (02.10.09)
That is the only explanation of how Kadima could have won this election after losing the second Lebanon war, expelling Jews from Gush Katif and ending operation Cast Lead without any tangible results. It seems that the Palestinian terrorists are right... if they keep attacking Israel, eventually Israel will give up.
12. Exit Poll does not count
Brod ,   USA   (02.10.09)
It is only speculation. Likud will win with all the Right Wingers.
13. Israel has voted itself out of existance
Al   (02.10.09)
On a day where Israel has decided that it is too tired to live and wants to commit mass suicide, the world is in the throws of deeping economic meltdown. The American stock market is crashing wildly and so those few friends that Israel may have had are bleeding. israel will continue in its suicide march to hell looking for "PEACE" all the while the west (its only friends) will be possibly starving. When your tummy will be hungering for food, you can go cap in hand to your "peace partners" for a handout. I think not...Israel has shown itself that it does not wish to live. Have a nice day...you're on your own...enjoy the ride to the abyss. I have written enough...I cant deal with stupid folk. You guys have written the book on insanity..Only G-d can help you and quite frankly he's got bigger fish to fry.
14. Beat Likud but not by much.
Daniel ,   San Jose, CA   (02.10.09)
If Tzipi doesn't want to fall flat on her face yet again she will need to take a much harsher stance on the Hamas than we saw from Barak. What we saw today was a direct response to the failed objectives in Lebanon and Gaza. She will need to get along swimmingly with Bibi of face elections yet again.
15. livne
sad ,   israel   (02.10.09)
DISASTER. The woman collasped this afternopon because of PRESSURE. she is a total idiot. she has done nothing. she is not capable. where are our brains???????????????????????????????????????????????
16. Can Livi do without Arabs?
Tolik ,   Zefat   (02.10.09)
Looks like for a first time the government will be formed by runner-up party. Tzipi Livni most likely would need anti-Israel Arab MKs to get support of 61.
17. I hope this will be confirmed...
Stephane ,   Brussels BE   (02.10.09)
It woudl be great if Tzipi becomes the next Prime Minister of Israel! She is an icon for the young generation!
18. Bibi does not deserve to be prime minister
(02.10.09)
Yisrael Beiteinu can sit in government with Kadima. Likud go home and change your party leader who is an opportunist.
19. The winner is....
Cora B. Hermann ,   Cologne, Germany   (02.10.09)
YEEEEAAAAH !!!!!!
20. Elections
Arye ,   Boston, MA   (02.10.09)
A vote for sanity. Only a centrist democratic Israel can move toward the future. The right wing fanatics and the left wing pacifists both live in a dream world.
21. Disaster: LIVNI, no way ... bad joke
Sandi   (02.10.09)
22. These are *exit polls*, not election results
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (02.10.09)
It'll likely be two days before all votes, including those from military bases, are counted and results are official. That said, if these results hold it suggests Israel is home to the biggest fools in the world. Where else would an artificial party like Kadima, home of failures and political opportunists, poll so highly?
23. Congratulations to win for rightwing block!
Johnny ,   Stockholm Sweden   (02.10.09)
Way to go!
24. I'm speechless...
Jacob ,   UK   (02.10.09)
I just don't understand. How on earth could you vote for a failed party that lost you the 2nd Lebanon War and stopped short of destroying Hamas? Whats wrong with you?! Do you want to live? Do you want to avoid another Holocaust? I have and always will stand behind Israel 100% in any case but why this? I guess its too early to jump to conclusions as the full results are expected later but Bibi has himself to blame for this. Hopefully Peres will pick Bibi to form a coalition of right-wing parties so maybe this result is a blessing in diguise. If Likud had won then it would have formed a coalition mixed with left and right parties which would never agree on issues and fall apart. But since Likud lost, Bibi has no choice but to try and form a coalition that involves right-wing parties which agree on most issues. I can whine all I want but if this is what G-d wills then so be it. I will still stand behind Israel 100%.
25. Bad news for Israel!
Ari ,   Jerusalem   (02.10.09)
Its bad news not because Kadima won! And not because Likud lost! Its bad because the status quo remains and that shows how deeply the country really is divided! Ladies and gentlemen Israel lost the elections today! sad very sad.
26. Livni - good for Israel!
John ,   USA   (02.10.09)
27. Stupid people
Proud Israeli Jew ,   Israel   (02.10.09)
We Jews are not as smart as people think. How can Jews vote for a two state solution? It will be the end of Israel. Hopefully, Tzippi won't be able to form a government.
28. the right wing voters are responsible for the loss
zionist forever   (02.10.09)
The country has started much more toward the right that many were didn't think Likud was tough enough so they fell for Libermans speeches and the ideology and promises of tiny parties like National Union. The result is they split the right wing vote so badly that Likud couldn't get enough seats. Nobody suddenly fell in love with the mastermind of 1701 and other sell out policies Olmert took the blame for. The right wing just comited suicide because they voted withe their hearts rather than their heads. As for forming a coalition based on these figures she still has plenty of options open. She will defaintly invite Labour giving her 42 seats. Then she would idealy like Likud to join her because they are the most liberal of all the major parties but still right wing enough its not a left wing only coalition and like her don't want another election and create a stable government. That would give her 68 seats. If she doesn't get Likud then she can invite YB who will take up her numbers to 58 and then make up the numbers with Meretz which will give her 62 seats. Even if Bibi would have an easier time putting together a coalition which he could with relative ease if Livni has even the slightest chance of forming a government there is no way that the sell out king of oslo would choose Bibi over Lini. Especialy considering last time Bibi got the job it was because he took it from Peres at the last minute. GOODBYE JERUSALEM GOODBYE GOLAN GET OUT JAIL FREE FOR TERRORISTS The country is going to be a very different and smaller place by the time the next election comes around. Livni will have no trouble at all forming a coalition. This isn't a celbration of democracy its a stupid system that has got the people that the party the majority didn't want.
29. Disappointing
Malone ,   Hfx   (02.10.09)
However,in the immortal words of Yogi Berra,"it ain't over till it's over"...and it's not over yet. Vote splitting and Liebermans surge took the votes needed to put Likud over the top. There are still the soldier votes and x-pats to counted. Livni is not quite there yet.
30. #27 Can you here the voice of Israelis?
Moshe ,   Israel   (02.10.09)
"Hopefully, Tzippi won't be able to form a government." - Be sure, she will! By the way, in Israel live not only Jews. In Israel live Israelis, and, they have said what life they want to live.
