1. Khatami is no moderate .....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (02.12.09)
If he was any kind of moderate, he would not be allowed to run. He has the same policies as Ahmedinejad only he's not as loud-mouthed about it. The idiot appeasers in the West will jump at the occasion of calling him a ''moderate'' - a catagory that exists only in their minds when describing Islamic fanatics.
2. Ahmadinejad is a CIA plant.
Mark ,   Boston   (02.12.09)
He is being used by the entire world to weaken the state of Israel.
3. BE SURE TERRY.............................#1
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (02.12.09)
Whether you want Mohammed Khatami or the incubent Ahmed Nejad. So far as you managing to get away is concerned,no chance at all.His diplomatic approach may be different but let me assure you that neither of them are fanatics. What exactly do you see in them to categorise them as fanatics?Just because you seem to know nothing what religion means.........................or do you..............they become fanatics?Anway, must remember that you will have to deal with one of them.I am sure it does not give you any pleasure, does it?
4. nutters one and the same

6. khatami says isolation
debbie ,   israel   (02.12.09)
Honestly, Mahmood, get a life. You really have no idea why they're called fanatics? #1 because they are like relics from the 11th Century. #2 because they hate the civilized, peace and life loving world #3 because they incite against Jews and Israel, for absolutely no reason. Israel has done nothing to them, Iran is insanely jealous of Israeli democracy #4 because they mass murder and mutiliate innocent men women and children throughout the entire world. #5 because they have contributed nothing to civilization except murder, mayhem and hatred. I mean, what normal, civilized people plot and carry out a heinous attack, murdering thousands of innocent people who are merely working and making a living to support their families Or attacks discos, retaurants, planes, hotels and Jewish centers, murdering women and babies alike for absolutely no reason. And that's just for starters..... C'mon Mahmood, can't you admit that that is why these animals are called "fanatics."?
7. Khatami
leib ,   madison wisconsin us   (02.12.09)
Khatami is not a reformer. He is part of the mullah's establishment and is paraded out periodically to lure the West into concessions. He is deeply anti Israel and in the 1980s when he was minister of cultural guidance Khatami organized a program to train and dispatch terrorists to attack Western targets. He is a diversion from the real reformers, the labor and women activists who are being jailed and murdered. He also continued close relations with Russia which is responsible for so much of the weaponry and technological capability that makes Iran a danger to Israel and the US
8. what Khatami is saying
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (02.12.09)
What Khatami is saying is that if Obama accepts a nuclear Iran, Iranian control of Shi'ite Iraq, and stops the embargo, Iran will get rid of Ahmadinejad. Obama could then leave Iraq, declare victory and say he solved the Iranian crisis using peaceful means. Welcome to the Middle East.
9. The domestic problems of Ahmadinejad .
Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (02.12.09)
Ahmadinejad has failed to deliver on promises of improving the economy and creating jobs, and he has exploited the nuclear controversy as his last hope of rallying political support. "Ultimately it is not President Ahmadinejad who decides Iran's nuclear policy, but the country's spiritual leader [Ayatollah] Ali Khomeini," noted an Israeli official. "Ahmadinejad will not compromise because he seeks confrontation, but Khomeini or another presidential candidate may be tempted to accept a compromise package drawn up by the West in return for halting uranium enrichment." 12. You have nothing to worry about.
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (02.12.09)
President Obama has put in a work order to take down the White House piece by piece and move it to Tehran. He's making new friends in different places. The United States doesn't matter anymore. He'll probably conveniently forget that Israel exists in another month or so. Nancy Pelosi will kick him under the table.....and he'll utter," Oh Yeah...that other country....uh....what was its name? Nancy....help me remember?"
13. #3 Mahmood
NC ,   Canada   (02.12.09)
Ahmadinejad is a fanatic because of his desire to wipe out another people, not because he is a Muslim. Stop trying to turn things around and make Terry seem like he's judging them based on their religion. He's judging them based on their desire to destroy his country. That desire makes them fanatics.
14. NC,YOU SEEM TO BE........................#13
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (02.12.09)
Belonging to the same group which is popular in twisting, distorting and at times giving incomplete news particularly from Iran. So,it does not surprise me of you drawing that conclusion. What Ahmednejad said and what was actually reported in your press is very interesting to learn. But you won't do it.So leave Terry alone.i have been reading his talk-back for years. You seem to have just come up recently not knowing much about the subject.
15. #3 Mahmood...still at it huh?
DR ,   Florida, USA   (02.12.09)
Lets see...denying the Holocaust, calling for the destrcution of Israel, helping terrorists kill innocent civilians and trying to create chaos in Iraq...but why would we say that these guys are not moderates??? Your posts are laughable!!!
16. #10 Persian CAT..come on!
DR ,   Florida, USA   (02.12.09)
You can't expect people to take you seriously when you make such ignorant and blatantly ridiculous statements. israel's radicals are like a nice old grandma compared to Islamic extremists! One side calls for security of its people and unity of the state...the other call for death, violence and beheadings! Come on CAT...get real!
17. DR.............................WELCOME...#15
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (02.12.09)
If anything makes you laugh,I am happy because it shows no improvement from what crap you used to write before and suddenly went into oblivion.Whilst 1300 innocent lives in Gaza(latest atrocities,of course) deemed sensible to you,I cannot believe whome else do you want to classify as being fanatic. However, records on Iranians are more cleaner than what you make it look. You may have few around to applaud your comments but the world at large saw your performance in 2006 and the insanity in Gaza the other day.

Cynthia ,   USA   (02.13.09)
Khatami was President of Iran for eight years prior to Ahmadinejad. He ran on a reformist platform but accomplished no reform. Even his supporters became disillusioned with him. The hardliners who are still in power prevented anything that resembled reform. Can't imagine Khamenei accepting anyone other than Ahmadinejad. He's obedient and follows orders. As for fatalities in Gaza and Lebanon, ask your pals in Iran why they used Hamas and Hezbullah to start wars with Israel and indirectly brought death and destruction to so many people. Who would you like to see become the next President of Iran?
19. MISREPRESENTATION OF FACTS.......#18
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (02.13.09)
Iranian politics is not like what you see in your country.you dont seem to be reading Western journalists and writers who have written a lot on the Iranian politics.Things dont happen the way that suit you, and thus your impaired comments.Khameni has nothing to do with who is elected so long as the principle of Revolutionary Council are adhered to and no contradictory Islamic laws get violated. What do you know of Iran,Cynthia?I think your reading is very narrow and confined.Broaden your reading and learn to accept the reality.Once again the reference to Gaza conflict, you literally bewildered me!!! Attempts were being made to destroy the RESISTANCE groups. On both the occassions the attempts failed. The earlier loss in 2006 caused more frustration amongst the 'invincible' army personnel, so in Gaza, they resorted to indiscriminate bombardment on the civilians. Are you telling me that numerous International Organisations including some in Israel are all misjudging the situation? Well, you need lots of reading and unbiased judgment in your head.

Cynthia ,   USA   (02.13.09)
Reform is contradictory to Iranian Islamic laws. The reality in Iran is simple. It's Khamenei's way or the highway. You're not even comfortable expressing an opinion about who you prefer for President of Iran but I gather you support Khatami. What happenend in Lebanon and Gaza was also quite simple. Iran directed its henchmen (Hezbullah and Hamas) to attack Israel and provoke a conflict. They followed orders by killing and kidnapping Israeli soldiers then bombarding Israel with katyusha rockets from Lebanon and kassam rockets and gard bombs from Gaza. Then these cowards hid behind civilians so when Israel predictably fought back, Lebanese and Palestinian civilians would be killed in order for Israel to stop the bombings and defend Israeli civilians. Hezbullah turned Lebanon into a graveyard and Hamas did the same to Gaza. This was was no victory for your make believe "Resistance".
21. IT IS NO KHAMENI WAY,CYNTHIA..........#20
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (02.14.09)
Unfortunately. However you look at it,you can't get away with your opinion and conclusion of Iranian society.I personally am of the opinion that either Khatami or Ahmednejad will make no difference to me.But why are we dwelling into this to start with? Why?The Israel's constant threats, military actions ans unwarranted grabbing of land is what resulted in the making of these resistance group. Are you still in doubt?Consult your own leaders and find out.You do not have to admit to me,but atleast accept the fact that was expressed in the OPINION coloumn of this site. You tended to probably ignore these articles for good reasons but the nett effect of all these actions by past leaders and also the present ones has caused lot of harm to Israel that not a day passes without Israel having to worry about every corner of its grabbed land. This, unfortunately for you, will tend to increase as we both are around to witness the happenings.
22. Khatami
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.14.09)
It really doesn't matter, whether it is khatami or achmajenun. It is the representative of the devil, khaminay who pulls the strings, and decides Irans policies.Khaminay, like Hitler and stalin knows the importance of enemies in recruiting the people to the cause,be it national socialism, the bolshevic faith,or islam,Iran build up mizbullah for 1 purpose,to terrorize Israel,Iran blow up a Jewish center in argentina, killing over a 100 people,it seems the Iranian people who suffer a lot from Khaminais tirany, don't mind,as long there is an outside enemy. They could topple khaminay, the same way they toppled the Shah of Iran with demonstrations of hundreds of thousands. The regime is weak, and as Lenin said about Tsarist russia, just a couple of hits with a shovel and it will collapse. The present generation of Iranian people are in love with Khaminay,so they don't care about his policies, may be the next generation will be less intoxicated with Islam and enemies ,and will rebel.
23. #21 You are correct Mahmood
Cynthia ,   USA   (02.15.09)
As long as the Islamic Regime is in power, nothing will change in Iran except life will become even more difficult and unbearable for Iranians. Iran is occupied by the Regime and the Regime ignores the social needs and problems of the people while it spreads conflict in the ME. When the Regime treats its own people like dirt, why would you expect them to care about the Palestinians? Israel is a tiny country that has gained land in wars started by others. Each time Israel prevails. You would think Hamas would have learned from Hezbullah's experience in Lebanon. Imagine how well off the Palestinians would be if Iran gave money to the Palestinians for humanitarian purposes instead of arming them to terrorize Israel.
24. YOUR INCLINATION OF BELIEVING....#23
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (02.15.09)
The Zionist state to be ruled by the angels having good intentions all the time is what you will always believe.Anyway, sooner or later, the unfolding scenerio in the Middle East will put your mind to rest how wrong you have been in believing what you are.Till then, nothing mre to add.
