1. welcome to Israeli politics
Zvi   (02.12.09)
I am listening to the Sticker Song, at the moment.
2. Yiddelach! Why cant you have as much common sesne as these
Jae ,   Lynn   (02.12.09)
Druze. "Grant Honor to the minority who dwell in peace and brotherhood with you, for you too were the minority in Egypt...."
3. Very strange article
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (02.12.09)
I have many very good Druze friends in the Golan. They voted for Lieberman because he came to the Golan a few weeks ago and promised to keep the Golan part of Israel. The vast majority of Druze are happy in Israel and do NOT want to be part of Syria.
4. #2
(02.12.09)
It wasn't out of brotherly love. It was to show the world who we are dealing with. When Israel has a tough openly racist leader the world will see it is the Jews of Israel who causes the problems.
5. #2 Well not all minorities dwell in "peace and brotherhood"!
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.12.09)
The Golan Heights Druze (at least their majority) do not want us, do not see us as "brothers" and if given the opportunity, would not be peaceful at all - as they proved several times in the past. They see themselves as Syrians. Instead, honor and respect goes of course to the vast majority of the Israeli Druze and Bedouins who serve in the army etc. and who've bound a pact of brotherhood with the Jews. Similarly, many Israeli Arabs would rather see us dead and pushed into the sea. So no, we cannot "grant honor" to ANYONE - minority or not - who wants our destruction. And we don't particularly honor either, those who call us "Yiddelach".
6. a simpler answer
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (02.12.09)
There is a simpler answer. Kadima plans to abandon the Golan to Syria. The Druze are smart, they do not want to live under the Syrian apartheid dictatorship. Why did they not vote Likud? Because like the Jews, they do not trust Netanyahu when he says he will not abandon the Golan.
7. Why are Druze in the Golan even voting?
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (02.12.09)
Don't these Druze have Syrian citizenship? Why are we allowing them to vote? I'm confused here...
8. Doc, 5#, you are wrong
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (02.12.09)
The Druze in the Golan that I know(I am a Doctor and one half of my patients are Druze) do not want the Golan given to Syria. Of course there are a few troublemakers like the two Druze today yet they are a small minority. In fact the Druze came out and voted for Lieberman during a blazing snowstorm on Monday because only Lieberman had promised not to give away the Golan.
9. #8 - I truly and sincerely hope you are right.
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.12.09)
It would be stupid of them to prefer the Syrian "heaven" to Israeli "hell", but I'm nt holding my hopes high. Don't forget that the Druze tradition is to be loyal to their "hosting" country and Israel is not the original hosting country of the Golan Heights Druze. Are they going against tradition/religion here? I don't know and I bet you don't know for 100% either. Hope I am wrong and you are right. Time will tell. I for one, stopped looking at words - now only action matter.
10. #5 wrong about Israeli-Arabs
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (02.12.09)
true we have few radicals among us, however the striking majority see themselves living in Israel in peaceful coexistance with our contryment he jews. Threwing anyone into the see never mentioned. Yo either read too much propaganda or spend too much time on Hamas and Ahmadinaja websites..
11. #4 the druze believe in lieberman's way & join the army
people need pride   (02.12.09)
12.  Rami of Nazareth #10
Tania   (02.12.09)
You write logical things .I hope you do well. However people get the idea that Israeli Arabs don't love Israel from.... Israeli Arabs. Look at the leaders you have chosen.People, mostly who hate Israel. Many who consort with the enemy (enemy being not Arabs per se, but Hamas and the like) and who in any normal country would have been put in jail for treason. We get the idea from the Israeli Arabs that backed Hamas during the war. We get the idea from Israeli Arabs that were bombed by Hisballah and blamed Israel for it during Lebanon War 2. I didn't hear a peep from them blaming Hisballah. I do hope that relations with Israeli Arabs will be good.
13. #7, flawd statistics
Igor ,   Cologne, Germany   (02.12.09)
Good point, Joe. As far as I know, about a half of the Golan Druze opted for Israeli citizenship. These are the ones who are eligible to vote. The other half has the Syrian citizenship and cannot vote. Obviously, those who opted for Israeli citizenship have a reason to be concerned should Golan be given away to Syria. This is the reason they prefer Lieberman. Those who have Syrian citizenship and presumably hate Lieberman, Netanyahu, Livni, Yishai and every other Jew, simply don't figure in the statistics.
14. #4 - I don't see a demand of loyalty as racism
William ,   Israel   (02.13.09)
A State should and does demand loyalty from its citizens, exactly what Liberman calls for. Muslims also demand loyalty to their rule, punishable by death under Sharia law. So - it's considered ok in Islam because it's written as a "law", but when Jews demand the same, suddenly we're racist. I think the world is beginning to open their eyes to the evil in the world, and realize it was the Jews fighting it all along.
15. #10 - with all due respect, Rami...
William ,   Israel   (02.13.09)
I don't have to go further than Jpost or Haaretz to see the cancer within. There's plenty of incidents of Israeli Arabs siding with Israel's enemies and calling for destruction of Jews. Radicals? Yes - but don't ignore them because they are out there causing problems for YOU. The leader of the Islamic Brotherhood in the North, those morons who were in Haifa trying to gain support for the PFLP, etc.
