31. Just like look in a mirror.
Chaim Berdugo ,   Amsterdam, Holland   (02.14.09)
Israel and Turkey commit the same crimes. Looking at each other is just like looking in a mirror. The Israelis massacre the Palestinians, the Turks did the same to the Armenians and are still doing it to the Kurds. Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who is the most murderous and barbaric of all?
32. About Turkey...
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.14.09)
Well I for one am glad that somebody finally said it out loud! Erdogan has no right to criticize anyone for unacceptable military behaviour. Yes, Gaza was difficult and not everything we did was right, but it is not for the Turks of all people to judge us.
33. Not army's OFFICIAL position
Yoel Chrikus ,   Ra'nana   (02.14.09)
And I don't care about this official point of view. The most important thing is what WE israelis think. I personnally feel mizrahi represents my opinion. And it's enough for me. Keep on going, you're a very brave soldier.
34. Gen Mizrahi, history and Turkey today
Samir ,   London England   (02.14.09)
Mizrahi gave voice to clear historical facts. Turkey meanwhile undergoes fundamental struggle between the secular Attaturk legacy, and Islam which is trying to reclaim it. Israel has to be conciliatory to avoid driving Turkey further into the hands of Islamist extreemism. It maybe a lost cause anyway, as is Turkey's desire to join the EU. If they suggeed, the EU will have a huge infusion of islam and will be hard pushed to hold the tide back. Europe it seems has a death wish. They are bored with christianity, and too stupid to realise what they are precipitating into. Kossovo will be like a sunday afternoon picnic compared to the troubles that will befall europe.
35. Turkish army was Israel's biggest ally in Turkey..
Nida ,   Turkey   (02.14.09)
Congratulations Israel. The Turkish Army was Israel's biggest ally in Turkey. You are getting angry at Erdoğan and attacking our soldiers, who are the biggest enemy of the islamists in Turkey. That's very silly of you. Avi Mizrahi says Erdoğan should look in the mirror.Erdoğan was not in power until 2002.Islamists are not responsible for anything happened until 2002. Center right and Kemalist parties were in power since the foundation of the republic, and those parties were always pro-Israel.With this statement he is also attacking those political parties which used to have very good relations with Israel. With this statements Avi Mizrahi is directly attacking the secular Turkish soldiers and not islamists.Turkish army always supported Turkish-Israel relations,Turkish generals always made speeches about Hezbollah and Hamas terror organizations. Congratulations, what can I say more?!
36. Mr. Erdogan
Moshe ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (02.14.09)
President Shimon Peres and General Avi Mizrahi are not little boys from caravanserai. You should treat them without ambitions, but with respect and responsibility - only in such way your dialogue can bring real fruits of peace and cooperation!
37. soldiers supposedly brain dead in order to obey superiors???
yahn goodey   (02.14.09)
so i have been told when i worked for the military. how dare maj.gen.mizrahi forget this basic principle and not let his military and civilian "superiors" barak and olmert think for him. if the military personnel were allowed to think and act for themselves we might end up with some peace and quiet from our troublesome neighbors and then our civilian government wouldn't have anything to do to make it appear that they are really needed? obviously they are not needed if they allow the courts to tell us all what the law is. cut out the parasites that get in the courts way to the police and military and save a bundle of money wasted on useless politicians.
38. Why should an IDF general have to apologize
Rachel ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (02.14.09)
for speaking the truth? The Turks have committed some of the worst atrocities against their own people and their neighbors ever since they became a state. Perhaps the general should have made his comments out of uniform so that a distinction could be drawn between an "official" comment and an off-the-record one, but he did not say anything that was historically incorrect and he should not have to apologize for it nor should the state go sucking up to the Turks with one. They have bashed us ever since the Second Lebanon War and we should stop all business dealings with their military and their government immediately and sell only to the Kurds. They are our true friends and the Turks are nothing but lip service friends.
39. Talk about Turkish genocide
Marco ,   Spain   (02.14.09)
that may or may not have happened over a century ago. However Israel's genocide against the Palestinians is clear for every one to see. With calls mounting worldwide to prosecute Israeli leaders for war crimes. Its very Ironic that the person that is commiting war crimes today is judging others.
40. general comments
free ,   llimassol   (02.14.09)
i hope one day see and meet this general to shake his hands
41. ACTUALLY HE FORGOT THE EXPULSION OF THE GREEKS!
(02.14.09)
Very important to mention that too, they were so many to have been ethnically cleansed from turkey's coasts! BTW, the entire jewish peopleTHANK YOU Maj. Gen. Avi Mizrahi. We should condemn wrongdoings like this even if our so called "ally" (hum...) did this!
42. Avi Mizrahi acting like Erdogan.
Uzziel   (02.14.09)
Mizrahi is a soldier, political statements should be out of bounds for him. Let Erdogan in Davos and those Turks in this basketball match act like the ignoramus barbarians they are.
43. #20-Ertan
Uzziel   (02.14.09)
Yes, that´ s why your former FM and current President requested to the State of Israel for their help (through the Jewish American lobby) to stop a Congress resolution about the Armenian genocide. Hypocrites.
44. #31 Ridiculous analogy - Not the same situation whatsover.
Nudnik   (02.15.09)
But always people like you like to lump anything Israel does in together for effect. Just like the "apartheid" tag, it doesn't work . It only works with other morons like yourself - Thankfully there's still more than enough good, smart people to oppose you and your own BS.
45. #35 If what you say is true then Turkish military should
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (02.14.09)
quickly depose ErdoArrogant before he does more damage to Turkey's international standing and to the Turkish-Israeli relationship, or what is left of it
46. So Marco, you want history to forget what you did to Indians
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (02.14.09)
in the New World, extermination and cultural destruction, just because it has been 300 to 400 years ago? We will never forget the forced exile from Spain and the tens of thousands of Jews you massacred because they wouldn't convert to Christianity. You should be the last one to teach us morals
47. Everyone Who's Obsessed With The So-Called Armenian Genocide
UHO ,   Istanbul, Turkey   (02.15.09)
* Most Armenians claim that 1,5 to 2 million Armenians died as the result of "massacres". Like the rest of their claims, this also is imaginary, with the number claimed being increased over time. At first, immediately following the war the Armenians claimed that as many as 600,000 had been killed. Later they raised it to 800,000 and now they talk about 1,5 million and tomorrow they may talk even about three million. The 1918 edition of Encyclopedia Britannica said that 600,000 Armenians had been killed; in its 1968 edition this was raised to 1,5 million. * How many Armenians did die? It is impossible to determine the number exactly, since no complete death records of statistics were kept during those years. The only basis on which even an estimate can be made is the actual Armenian population in the Ottoman Empire at the time. Armenian Population in The Ottoman Empire: 1893: 1.001.465 1906: 1.120.748 1914: 1.221.850 Source: H. Ottoman Population 1830-1914 Demographic and Social Charsetistic, The University Of Winsconcin Press, 1985 London. Now, two questions: 1-) How on earth Ottoman Empire could kill 250,000 people who have never lived? 2-) Where did those 4 million Western (Ottoman) Armenians come from? (1.400.000 in USA, 500.000 in France...and so on.) * Bogos Noubar, head of the Armenian delegation at the Paris Peace Conference, declared that after the war 280.000 Armenians were living in Turkey and 700.000 Armenians have emigrated to other countries. According to the estimation of Bogos Noubar, the total number of the Armenian population before the war was 1.300.000. Therefore, it can be concluded that the number of the Armenian losses could not be more than 300.000. This figure reflects the same proportion, according to their total population, of the 3 million loss of Muslim lives during the same period. Once more, facts do not correspond with the Armenian claims. Turkey’s proposal of a common historical commission investigation was refused by Armenia. If you have ever been in the so-called genocide museum in Yerevan, you would have seen all their sources were hand-written diaries, besides liar witnesses. (I wonder how on earth anyone alive takes part in a genocide which was happened before?) Armenians were minority everywhere in the empire and they murdered hundred thousands of Turks, Kurds, Circassians to be able to become majority for founding an Armenian state. They co-operated with Imperial Russia for destruction of the Ottoman Empire and yet, Turkey doesn’t already deny Armenian losses. Despite the epidemic diseases and attacks of Kurdish footpads, 382,148 of 438,758 Armenians deported were survived, which makes total Armenian losses were 56,610 during the deportation. They were deported in favor of security reasons and their insurance, doctor assignment, medical&equipment supply...and so on documents exist in Turkish archieves. Nevertheless, nobody criticizes Japanese in Hawaii during World War II. * Armenian atrocities doesn’t effect only Turks and other Muslims. The Armenian guerillas had never been happy with the failure of the Greeks and Jews to fully support their revolutionary programs. As a result in Trabzon and vicinity they massacred thousands of Greeks, while in the area of Hakkari it was the Jews who were rounded up and massacred by the Armenian guerillas. Basically the aim of these atrocities was to leave only Armenians in the territories being claimed for the new Armenian state; all others therefore were massacred or forced to flee for their lives so as to secure the desired Armenian majority of the population in preparation for the peace settlement.
48. Listen Up Everybody!
UHO ,   Istanbul, Turkey   (02.15.09)
NAZIs were selected by election with more than %40 vote of German people. Ittahat-Terraki party came by revolution against the Abdul Hamit II. Turkish people didn’t select that government. Even clashes were occurred mostly between Kurds and Armenians. They were Muslims who suffered most due to western support toward Armenians and even Turkey was not founded in 1908. Again, nobody criticizes ASALA terror and Khojaly massacre. Admittance of the so-called Armenian Genocide is going to decrease interest and sympathy towards Jewish Holocaust. Armenians are wise and most of them refuse the Jewish Holocaust in fact. As for Kurds, ask their own opinion about Turks, what's more in Northern Iraq!
49. NIda #35 You are right!
David ,   Ukraine. Israel   (02.14.09)
But why should Israel must be aware of who will not like such statements? Why Erdogan is not aware and careful in his reaction? Accusations to accusation. Seems, nobody opposes Erdogan in Turkey about his statements, everybody supports him and everybody proud of him. So, somebody should remind him things, and lower him down to Earth. I wonder, is that so, that Mr. Erdogan is so stupid, not looking into his own dirty laundry? That he plays dangerous populist games. It is dangerous to Turk people first.
50. Marco, Spain
yigal ,   north   (02.15.09)
that may or may not have happened over a century ago. Really? I guess It depends wether you are a Turk or an Armenian or Kurd... I assume you think that friday the 13th, was a made up story about "bad luck" for the Templars. You fall Into the category of the ones who deny or belittle the fate of the Armenians In 1915.
51. #39 What "mounting calls" Marco?
Scott ,   Sunshine Coast, Aust   (02.15.09)
Only tin pot despots tyrants or pinky , lefty euro governments appeasing their own imported muslim problems are bleating...if anything at all. The lack of response is evident.
52. COMMENTS CORRECT - but not for the general to say
Nudnik   (02.15.09)
Military is military, not politics. What it does show is Israel's spineless politicians for what they are. Instead of letting Turkey have a 'bit back' - no, they say nothing. Leaving Israelis frustrated to the point that , in this instance the good general crosses the line, taking matters into his own hands. Israel cannot purge itself of Olmert & co. soon enough - the damage they have caused is immense.
53. #31 Hypocrite: Dont see any comments from you about this >>
Scott ,   Sunshine Coast, Aust   (02.15.09)
You and your kind aren't fooling anyone. Here's the REAL nature of the 'innocents' you embrace. Go and have a look and make up some more excuses.... http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3671573,00.html
54. So the army does not need courageous generals anymore?
Adam ,   Haifa   (02.15.09)
55.  General Mizrahi spoke out the truth and should not be
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (02.15.09)
discredited by anyboby in Israel for speaking out the truth. It is stupid to put hot sheets when the truth is said. The more Israel excuses itself to the world the worst is. That's my opinion. I think that truth and justice should always prevail and we should fight for it.If others like or not is THEIR PROBLEM,not ours.Israel should stand firm when it makes and say the right thing. And yet: "In a rare move, the IDF Spokesperson's Office issued a statement saying Mizrahi's comments did not represent the army's position." So then ,whatis Army position? Do they agree with what Turkey does to Kurds and to what it did to Armenians? The spokeperson should then put out IDF opinion about that! WHAT A NASTY THEATER,OH MY!
56. Or else what?
Steve from Raleigh   (02.15.09)
Turkey will stamp its feet and utter some more anti Israeli nonsense. The Armenian genocide should finally be brought to light. If Turkey doesn't like that then it can join Iran instead of the EU.
57. Chaim in the other post your name was Mordechai Toledan from
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (02.15.09)
Amsterdam but your real name must be Ahmed Ibn Hejazi
58. mizrahi, kol hakavod!
oded   (02.15.09)
the genral simply stated the obviuos which is what most sane isaelis think-- turkey has gone way too far in its condemnation of israeli pure self defenseive moves in gaza. the idf will do its genrals in genral and mizrahi in particular , a great service by standing by them.
59. HE IS RIGHT!
Adamush   (02.15.09)
However, cowardly Israeli political establishment will of course go grovelling to Turkey over the alleged gaffe.
60. Hey Turkish people! Look!
Talat ,   Ankara   (02.15.09)
all of comments here made by israelis are against Türkiye and far from realities. Turks who reads my comment! be careful what kind of people we have saved from spanish inquisition and open our arms to let them live in peace for five hundred years...
