1. Whoever allows modernisation of Old Akko...

Is a criminal and should be trialed! This is part of Israel's history and as such it has tu be preserved! Not to mention that ALL tourists that come to haaretz are comming not because of Tel Aviv clubs (I will go to New York if I want a good party), but because of unique history of these parts!
2. Tragic

Why would they want to build a clone of Eilat in Akko? Akko is a charming city. It could be tidied up but it doesn't need such a development. Talk about killing the goose that lays the golden egg.... but what would developer's know about good taste anyway. It's probably just a project for a Russian oligarch to launder his money anyway........
3. Something is needed

The area in question - a coastal strip that is nothing more than an eyesore - does need redeveloping, but not, as Smith stated, of Eilat proportions. Low-rise, non-intrusive development, cleaning up the beach. But the thought of hotels, marinas, shopping malls etc... fill me with horror and would certianly strike Akko off any planned visit.
