1. Gilad Shalit
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (02.17.09)
What is this now, the 400th time that Hamas has found a reason to postpone. Shalit is dead; we know this. I would prefer that his remains be repatriated (his family deserves that much), but Israel is about to release murderers and killers (who will promptly ply their trade again, because that is all they know how to do and all they really want to do). Maybe, better we should teach Hamas a lesson, Dresden style. I don't know what to think anymore; I am so sick of Palestinian terror, broken promises and flat-out lies. I suspect that much of the world feels the same way I do, whether they choose to express their feelings or not. Who would miss Hamas if they were no longer around? They want to be martyrs (well, they don't; they want to send OTHER people to be the martyrs). I say ... perhaps we should just martyr them all. If just one more innocent Israeli dies because of these monsters, then that will be one too many. Apologies to all. I am angry and frustrated. The world seems to take the view that Hamas are poor innocent people who want only peace and cannot because Israel is their neighbor. I don't know if they are really that stupid, or are merely choosing to pay lip service and tiptoe lightly around their belligerent Arab populations. I don't care what the reason is, but maybe it is time for Israel to say, if the world thinks we are so bad, give them a real reason to think it. Maybe we should raze Gaza to the ground, and all its nasty vicious animals with it.
2. Olmert - be off to the old womens' retirement home
Ran   (02.17.09)
3. Olmert waited till last minute to include Shalit
Semsem ,   New York, USA   (02.17.09)
Olmert looks like a fool. He forgot about Shalit and mentioned him at the last minute.
4. Olmert did not publicly do enough
Historical Observer ,   USA   (02.17.09)
We will never know fully what kind of backdoor dealings or negotiations took place with Olmert and Shalit's captors. What we have seen, though, is a failure to bring home a prisoner of war. Olmert may have tried the best he felt he could, but it was not good enough for many Israelis. Prisoner swaps are an insult too. 500 refugees for 1 solider? Especially a person facing 17 life sentences, how can this be justice?
5. shame on our wimpy Prime Minister for
Lena ,   Israel   (02.17.09)
making pitiful attempts if you can call them that, to free Gilad Shalit. Is this what you would call doing his best? SHAME ON HIM What would he do if it was his own son?
6. FOR SARAH 1
BAR ,   ISRAEL   (02.17.09)
shame on you sarah from USA gilad is a live!!!!!! maybe if gilad wos your brother you have a different reaction . bar . Sderot, Israel
8. Olmert, goodbye and good...
Mea   (02.17.09)
riddance. I recall the compassion I felt for you when Sharon fell ill. And that feeling rests in opposition to how I feel today. I believe opportunities were wasted under your watch.

Sarah ,   New York, USA   (02.17.09)
There is nothing that would make me happier than to come on Talkback and say that I was wrong, that Gilad Shalit is alive and well, and has been treated decently. But it just is not true, dear. It's not enough to say that you have a hostage; you have to prove it. And there have been many neutral third-party organizations that have volunteered to come to Gaza and visit with Shalit; all such requests have been dismissed by Hamas. Hamas has also refused to release a photograph of Gilad Shalit holding a newspaper showing the current date. I don't know what this tells you; I can, however, say what it tells me. It tells me that Hamas cannot produce Shalit because he is no longer alive. I wish this were not the case. I want his remains repatriated, and then we can tell Hamas to go pound sand; even show them how it is done.
10. To: Barbara at No. 7
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (02.17.09)
I did not know about the case in England -- there was something similar in Scotland a couple of years ago. We had an incident in Washington state a number of years ago where Arab terrorists were caught crossing over the Canadian border with several hundred pounds of C4 explosives: destination, Los Angeles International Airport. I did know about the woman in Buffalo; what did she do? Was the coffee not hot enough? "Animals" doesn't begin to describe these people; and I mostly like animals and do not wish to insult them needlessly by using that word to describe that rabble that are Israel's neighbors.
11. Kidnappings continue
Richard ,   London UK   (02.17.09)
Tuesday February 17, 2009 12:38 The Israeli military kidnapped 26 Palestinian civilians during pre dawn and morning invasions targeting several West Bank cities and towns on Tuesday. The invasions took place in Tulkarem, Jenin, Qalqilia, Ramallah, Bethlehem and Hebron cities. Israeli troops invaded Tulkarem city and nearby a village, and kidnapped nine civilians after searching a number of homes. Also, in the northern part of the West Bank, Israeli troops invaded the city of Qalqilia, searched homes and kidnapped seven civilians. In the southern part of the West Bank, an Israeli force invaded the villages of Hussan and Beit Omer, near Bethlehem city and kidnapped seven civilians. Moreover, three civilians were kidnapped during home searches in Hebron city and nearby villages.
12. For all we know Shalit...
Justin ,   New York   (02.17.09)
Might not even be alive (anymore). Is it no surprise that Hezzbollah traded away for the Goldwasser and Regev, yet even if Israel gave up 1000 Arab prisoners, Hamas won't do it.... That is because they know they dont have him and its a propaganda coup for them to keep dragging it out.
13. To: Richard at No. 11
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (02.17.09)
It's not an "invasion," Richard; it is pest control. Besides, the territory is Israel's to do with whatever it pleases. You cannot invade your own country. Come up with a better word. Perhaps Israel can send all those terrorist agitators and pesky fifth columnists to merrie olde England. They'll feel right at home in Londonistan.
14. Question?
Ak ,   Bahrain   (02.17.09)
Is the soldier alive? I mean since his captivity .... did you get any message from hamas that he is still alive? I mean common, with all due respect ... you release 1000 for a corpse? This is war ... this is not a game .... I am not israeli, nor a jew and don't want to sound "holier than thou" and give you lessons in patriotism ... but as far as I know, Israel lost 250 on the first day in Youm Kippur war .... That is called sacrifice, but you gained the Golan Heights, and taught some people the meaning of going to war, right ... now they are begging to have peace with Israel. Without that heavy price you paid, you would not reach this stage you are in now. What do you think?
15. To: AK in Bahrain
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (02.17.09)
We bring our children home, AK. That is why Israel would release prisoners in exchange for repatriating remains. But Hamas can only go to the well so many times. They have about exceeded their allotted trips. Who would have thought that the day would come when most of the Arab world (whatever they are saying publicly) are BEGGING Israel to clean up Gaza and clean up Lebanon! We want Gilad Shalit's remains repatriated. And then, it will be time to teach Hamas a little lesson. Well, perhaps it will be a big lesson. In any event, Hamas hasn't much shelf life left. Everyone is so sick of them and their whining and their lies and their murderous ways.
16. I do wonder...
meg ,   israel   (02.17.09)
just why neither the red cross or any of these other organizations have not been allowed to see Gilad, these orgs that scream mayhem when Irael defends itself, why havent they demanded to see Gilad? Please G-d he is alive and will be returned. and Sarah i gree with most you say, but we always have hope until we actually know.
17. #16 can you do the ultimate wonder and strop whining?
