2. I have a question ...
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (02.17.09)
Does not Hamas endlessly trumpet to the world that they are fundamentalist Moslems? So, shouldn't they all present themselves for each to have their right hand cut off? Well, chopped off. There are a whole host of nations who can lend them the guy with the sword ....
3. Un storage facility guarded by Hamas? How dumb is that!
Vicky ,   Ashkelon Israel   (02.17.09)
4. Wow
(02.17.09)
I don't even know where to begin to comment on the incredible levels of stupidity involved here... Who thought it was wise to have Hamas security forces guard the weaponry?? And how is the motivation in any way unclear?? And who believes that there is the slightest possibility that Hamas is going to give the shells back??
5. This Wouldnt suprise me !!
Rami Abu ghalyion ,   Tulkarem-Palestine   (02.17.09)
Also Hamas stole all of the contents of the Palestinian National Authority such as Offices, important papers, cars, blankets, money So,its Natural That hamas to thefes the humanitarian assistances to the Palestinian people
6. UNRWA should not be involved in military matters
Arik Silverman ,   Milwaukee USA   (02.17.09)
If there is some other mandate from the UN to clear these weapons, that's a different matter, but UNRWA is to deliver food and other humanitarian aid, and should not be involving itself in politics or in military affairs. As for the shells, there is value as scrap metal if they can be disassembled instead of blown up. There have been stories both in Palestine and and other theaters of war of children being killed because they were gathering shells for the scrap metal value, for example.
7. I suppose now we can expect...
Malone ,   Hfx   (02.17.09)
...an increase in "work" accidents as Hamas trys to re-configure these explosives into something they can use, hopefully blowing themselves to smithereens in the process.
8. UN
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.17.09)
The UN is a true friend in need, to Hamas.who kould be more neutral than the UN ?.
9. The UN wants Israel DEAD
Dan ,   Titusville, FL USA   (02.17.09)
Can there be any doubt that the UN is NOT an honest broker as they allowed Hamas to guard weapons. Are they simply stupid or was this a deliberate action to get more and dangerous weapons into Hamas hands. I think this was deliberate to rearm Hamas.
10. Once again we see that UN is a tool of Hamas and Hez.
Cynic ,   USA   (02.17.09)
11. Hamas Steals Tank Shells
David S ,   New York, USA   (02.17.09)
Maybe Hamas is stockpiling the tank shells so that they can use them to make it look like the IDF shelled something that they did not by planting them then exploding them.
12. What the hell is the UN thinking?!??!
(02.17.09)
Are people there so incompetent they believe they can work with Hamas on anything? This is a terrorist organization, in absolute violation of virtually all rules of combat and holding a policy of aggression, what did these UN monitors think would happen?
13. UN is impotent and redundant
Barney ,   Miami   (02.17.09)
Dismantle the stupid UN. Lest work on building a difefrent UN of civilized nations. UN is a total and utter joke. The operate like the keystone cops.
14. Who is the idiot who let Hamas guard the weapons?
Steve   (02.17.09)
15. DUH!!!!!
Julie ,   Hawaii, USA   (02.17.09)
Fox guards the chicken coop. Is there any intelligent life out at the UN?
16. If Israel Hadn't Used Them Then Hamas Wouldn't Have Them
World Citizen ,   the world   (02.17.09)
Ever thought of it that way? Of course if Hamas had missles, tanks heavy artillary, gunships and jet fighters of their own then they wouldn't need to make bombs out of non-functioning Israeli shells. Just goes to prove the old adage "that what goes around comes around".
17. Major Bowes or Ted Mack
Gideon Reader   (02.17.09)
Fer Chrissakes! Seven (7) Freakin' tons? We are NOT talking about three mags of 5.56mm or a couple of grenades here. Is anybody, ANYBODY, watching the bloddy store? You guys look like amatures. God help you if you ever are pitted against someone other than the inbred low intellect criminal ragsters who know what they are doing and what you are NOT doing. And as for the military professor; the genius, Ehud Barak. He could not hold a real warrior's jockstrap for him.
18. consequences?
tom ,   toronto, canada   (02.17.09)
who is the dimrod responsible for this operation, and how soon before he/she is separated from their fat, UNdeserved paycheque?
19. Evidenced IDF run away leaving its weapons in Gaza!
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (02.17.09)
Otherwise how an army would leave its munition in hostile lands in hostile hands? Is UN Arsenal for Israel? Everyting is obvious IDF REGRESSED SKEDADDLING without looking behind!
20. It's more than obvious the UN has taken sides.
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem Israel   (02.17.09)
I say out with them.
21. rather like letting the cat guard the fish!!!
meg ,   Israel   (02.17.09)
Un goes from dumb to dumber again.
22. What came 1 st.; the chicken or the egg?
Jan   (02.17.09)
So what !, what's the big deal if they stole the amo. Hamas, UN, UNRWA,------it's all in the family. I said it many times before; one cannot live without the other. They have the same bosses, they use the same cash register with an automatic refill built-in.....And the stupid, no, I should say the idiots, keep replenishing it. And they all lived happily ever after....!
23. Do not blame UN, blame Barak and Livni.
Texa ,   US   (02.17.09)
24. Why isn't this anywhere else?!
Jason ,   LA, US   (02.17.09)
Why is this article not on mainstream news? I read how Israel is evil for taking land in the west bank, but nothing about Hamas STEALING munitions from the UN? They throw a fit over Israeli war crimes (which must have been great seeing how it panned out...), but this doesn't make news. I love the Useless Nations.
25. #19, wistful thinking there, Tayfun.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (02.17.09)
These are dud bombs and artillery rounds. You know, the kind that are dropped from the sky and shot fro very, very far away?
26. Moved as a safety precaution?
Arik Silverman ,   Milwaukee USA   (02.17.09)
Yesterday it was reported that some of this ammunition was stored in locations dangerously close to civilians. Furthermore, the Palestinians and UN wanted to move it, but Israel refused to grant permission. Maybe Hamas got fed up and decided to move it away from civilians.
27. #7 Mr. Macho Malone
Uri ,   Israel   (02.17.09)
I see you are back where you left off, with your testosterone in tact!
28. Its funny "Hamas steals...."
(02.17.09)
Hamas is the elected government in Gaza and they get to decide what to do with un exploded munitions, not the U.N, not Israel or anyone else for that matter.
29. The UN: Weapons supplier to terrorists
Douglas Miller ,   Detroit, USA   (02.17.09)
Oh, I'm sure that "senior UN officials were outraged " at seven tons of weapons being "stolen" by terrorists from UN warehouses in Gaza. Wink-wink, nod-nod. The UN officials are so outraged that they will cut off funding, supplying, and supporting the terrorist enterprise in Gaza. Highly UNlikely: arrogant, hypocritical hatemongers that they are.
30. Tayfun,there is a big tayfun in your head
DAN ,   CANADA   (02.17.09)
You are so confused, but I understand because you just look at al jazirah, and listened to Hamas cowards from Damascus and Beirut. In reality, all the hamas'fighters' are still underground.IDF ran away,oh ya,you are really confused
