Gideon Reader   (02.18.09)
BeeEss. As Peres ages he is feeling the cold wind of the Angel at his back and regreting those "things" that so many of us do as we age; the false and bad starts and the decisions we knew were wrong, but made anyway. "Disengagement"; the dispossession of Jews from their homes and businesses was a conciously made decision that Peres knew was wrong at the time and his regret at least shows that he is still able after a lifetime of being more for self than cause, is able to become the mensch he should have been.

10. Peres's regrets
Daniel Assouline ,   Montreal Canada   (02.18.09)
Dear Mr. President, You stopped seeing clearly the day you broke the law and met the PLO with your Oslo accords. back then, you were wrong, you kept being wrong ever since and you have refused to see the light at the end of your tunnel as a runaway train smashing into our small nation. The result is that Israel is now percieved as an apartheid state because of all your wrong moves for peace. I am a peace seeker and have been all my life, I was in a minority that could do nothing for it exept worry every day, you, however had the power to do it all and you did, on every instance, the WRONG thing. You should apologize to the Israeli people, relinquish the prizes you wrongfully received and quit you position so that you can spend the rest of your life repenting for the wrongs you did our Country and people all your political carreer. Go just go. Daniel

Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (02.18.09)
The Oslo Agreements were born in sin and brought only death and pain . After the horrible mistakes he commited as a result of his total lack of vision, Peres should keep away of politics and Media. Only a peace process with the acceptance by the Arabs to be resettled in other Arab countries had a chance to bring peace to the region. Financial compensations would be the main reason for the Arabs to accept their resettlement. The best solution for the Arabs would be to leave the borders of “greater Israel,” so that Israel could then annex the West Bank and perhaps Gaza. Advancing this solution, daily, at any occasion, might creat a new perception and bring peace. Any different solution presents a risk of an endless war. For more details : http://xrl.us/bjcgx

Robert Bernier ,   Tel Aviv   (02.18.09)
Withdrawal from Gaza didn't bring peace: It brought a nightmare. Gaza is ruled by the Hamas, which recognizes neither the Palestinian Authority nor Israel. Does it make sense for peace groups to advocate negotiations with the Hamas that undermine the “moderated “ Palestinian Authority? Given that Hamas are opposed to peace with Israel, those who couple ending the “occupation” with peace might have to wait a long time for the end of the “occupation”. More at : http://xrl.us/bednn9

21. Peres says he was wrong. Have pigs sprouted wings?
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (02.18.09)
Admittedly, it's a qualified acknowledgement. He still supports the disengagement, but only regrets how it was implemented. Those hoping he'll finally acknowledge the mistake that was Oslo will likely never see that day. I'll never forget an interview he gave with Charlie Rose during the second intifada. When asked if there was anything he regretted, or wish he'd done differently, he said no, there was nothing. I nearly fell out of my chair. Bombs were going off in his country, yet it was inconceivable that he might have been wrong.
22. Peres' mistakes
Debra ,   UK   (02.18.09)
Peres has just realised the first mistake, it will take him much longer to become aware of all the rest. Meanwhile the danger remains that he will somehow influence the government.

Things in Israel are much better since Oslo and would be even much better if Rabin wouldn't have been killed.
