2. Attach Palestinian Assets
Dan ,   Titusville, FL USA   (02.18.09)
If the world is going to charge Israel in the International Court then we should immediatly attack all monies heading to the Palestinians and charge Hamas with violationg international law and standards by storing weapons amongst civilian and religious facilities and deliberatly using civilians as human shields.
3. Good article but......
lildoobird ,   Jerusalem   (02.18.09)
it's like talking to a brick wall.
4. Every country needs secure borders
Daniel ,   Spain   (02.18.09)
I apologize for what my country is doing to yours. It is incredible, given the fact that Spain and Israel have both colaborate in many topics. Israel needs secure borders now
5. hahaha very funny

6. Paging George Orwell
Amos ,   USA   (02.18.09)
And he obviously hasn't watched the media in the U.S., which gives at least 10 times the coverage to victims of suicide bombers as it does to Palestinian civilians.
7. In fine...some truth
Franklin ,   Paris   (02.18.09)
But so late.... Question : Who rule on the medias ? Jews or Arabs ??? Is time to beat Arab and Palestinian propaganda....definitely and denounce their domestic methods of blackmail and humanshields
8. #1 - exactly
gt   (02.18.09)
let the world know by properly documented and researched evidence compiled by independent sources and play it out in an international court. if they are so nice and caring about civilians, then let them show this through real evidence, not just statements like "the IDF are the most moral army in the world" a la barak. if so, show us this, because it sure doesnt seem that way. even a person who kills another in self-defence may very well see the inside of a courtroom.
9. Really?
Steve ,   US   (02.18.09)
If killing people in shelters and holding white flags is considered protecting civilians, what is war crimes definitions to you? I know you are going to say Hamas this and Hamas that. The world already knows Hamas is a terrorist organization but when the so called “IDF” intentionally kills civilians, you always have an answer.
10. #9 steve...
meg ,   Israel   (02.18.09)
and your evidence?? from the media you choose to watch.... were you in Gaza? So how the hell are you so positive there were any white flags? How many civilians killed in iraq, Afghanistant and before that Veitnam, the US is surely protecting her boarders from rockets fired.
11. On whose authority?
Jake   (02.18.09)
The UN is already in serious breach of its own mandate. Just for the record, it falsely accused Israel of shelling the UN school in Gaza during the war, but then when the dust settled, it announced that none of the Israeli shelling nor the Palestinian casualties were inside the UN compound itself, and the earlier reports were due to a "clerical error". This is an organization with the moral clarity to try individuals for war crimes? The same UN which tried and convicted Serbian war criminals also illegally oversaw and participated in the dismemberment and independence of a sovereign part of Serbian territory (Kosovo). The same UN which declares the West Bank to be occupied territory when it never belonged to a recognized sovereign, is silent and even complicit about the occupation of a part of a Cyprus, a sovereign nation just a half hour flight away. It is the UN, not Israel, that is guilty of deriliction of the UN's own charter.
12. Hypocrisy revealed, #9
Jake   (02.18.09)
Read what the Justice Minister said. The UN gives disproportionate condemnation of Israel when Palestinian civilians are killed. But when civilians are killed due to the actions of Security Council members defending themselves, we don't hear a peep out of the UN - be it in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechniya, Georgia, or Tibet.
13. #6, Uhh, No, not really
Jake   (02.18.09)
While it is true that Fox News tends to give more coverage to Israel's side of the story, the opposite is true for the other major news outlets available in the US - such as CNN, MSNBC, and BBC World (and NPR) , which are palpably pro-Palestinian. One gets the impression they are trying to compete with al-Jazeera for what the average Joe Q. American gets to hear about the Middle East (not to mention Moe Q. Arab). It's supply and demand, and since Israelis and Jews are so small in number, these big corporate media moguls couldn't give a toss about Israel's point of view. Read Washington Post, New York Times, Time, and Newsweek, and one is left with the impression that Israel is "the Evil Empire".
14. No. 6 Amos
NYC Girl   (02.18.09)
You're absolutely right. The American media should give a lot more coverage to Palestinian victims...and the fact that they were being used as human shields by the terrorist savages of Hamas.
15. How many of these Palestinian "civilians"
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (02.18.09)
were really "civilians"? Hamas is notorious for using troubled women, disabled people and children as suicide bombers and as soldiers. A fourteen year old with a rifle is a dangerous enemy notwithstanding his age and yet, in the "official" U.N. count, is considered a "child". Israel has a responsibility first and foremost to its own soldiers and secondly to its own citizens. Israel cannot be held responsible for the thuglike activities of Hamas and its like, using women and genuine children as shields because its proprity is to win the propaganda war as opposed to battling for the social good of its own people. According to Fathi Ahmad Hammad, member of the Palestinian Legislative Council and leader of the Izzedeen al-Qassam Brigades, in a videotaped transcript on 15 March 2008, he said: "For the Palestinian people, death has become an industry, at which women excel and so do all the people living on this land. The elderly excel at this, and so do the mujahdeeen, in order to challenge the Zionist bombing machine. It is as if they were saying to the Zionist enemy: 'We desire death like you desire life.'" israelagainstterror.blogspot.com/2008/03/palestinians-admit-using-human-shields.html 6/11/2008. I don't think it can be any clearer. Any avoidance of killing socalled innocents is to the Israeli military's credit. Remember, this was the same Gaza population which voted in Hamas in the first place and this was the population, 100,000 strong, which gathered in Gaza City before the war and cheered on the Arab actor who portrayed kidnapped soldier, Gilad Shalit, baiting Israel and "advancing" the Arab cause by having him say, "I want my mommy and daddy." So all you Hamas sympathizers might actually attempt to become objective and establish the actual facts and information as opposed to your ill-advised kneejerk blaming of Israel and its military. Of course, your respective ignorance gives you an easy excuse for loathing Jewish people; nothing to be done about that. Objectivity will not dispel that kind ugliness.
16. I salute you Israel.
The 11th Man ,   London   (02.18.09)
When I consider that you could have wiped the plate clean in Gaza without so much as the loss of one Israeli life: I SALUTE YOU. Let the nations rant; they should rather hang their heads in shame.
17. Just wondering ...
leo ,   USA   (02.18.09)
Forget Hague. Why Israel does not initiate ICC of its own?
18. Through the looking glass
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (02.18.09)
Israel carries out a precision operation in Gaza, and loses 13 Israeli soldiers in the process. Hamas hides behind women, children, the elderly and the infirm. Hamas uses United Nations facilities to attack IDF troops, knowing full well that their actions will draw return fire, thereby endangering ordinary civilians who have taken shelter in United Nations facilities. Of course, Hamas turned said facilities into legitimate military targets, but I guess that war crime doesn't interest anyone. Hospitals. Schools. Houses of worship. Densely populated civilian population centers. Is NOTHING sacred to Hamas? So, who are the war criminals here? Not Israel. Who does that leave? And Hamas is busy issuing edicts and declaring terms. I am so angry I could scream. Name one instance in history where the loser dictated the terms of surrender. Exactly. I couldn't think of one either. It does occur to me, however, that Hamas is a plague that we can do without. The world wants war criminals? We'll deliver them; stone cold dead ones. I am SO angry. I actually stayed home from work today, I am so angry. I never do that. Today I did. Israel is accused of "war crimes." Truly, we are in Wonderland.
19. To: Steve at No. 9
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (02.18.09)
White flags? Where did you get THAT one? For the record, Steve, these are people who SELL their children to be suicide bombers. These are people who danced for joy in the streets on September 11, 2001. These are people who -- despite leaflets, loudspeaker announcements and telephoned warnings, chose to send their children to "play" on roofs in areas that they KNEW were coming under attack. Hey -- that's Hamas' favorite photo op: a dead child. But you do have to ask how did that child die, why did that child die, and who is to blame for that child's death. None of the answers are "Israel." None. Not one. White flag .... that's a good one, Steve. Where did you get it? Al Jazeera? Iranian News Service? Anyone ever tell you that you ought to consider the source?
20. Oh really ?

"We were all holding white flags, women's head scarves. We were fleeing and they were shooting at us," Monir A-Najar told Haaretz. " More at: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1056952.html http://desertpeace.wordpress.com/2009/02/13/in-gaza-a-white-flag-means-shoot-to-kill/
22. To: Balla at No. 20
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (02.18.09)
Usually? Crimes? Can you be a little more specific? Hey -- since you live in Canada -- I have a question for you. Do the Quebecois (who have occasionally agitated for their own state) have "observer" status at the United Nations? No. That is a very special status, granted solely, ever and only to the Palestinians. Observers. That tells you all you will ever need to know about the United Nations. But I digress. Israel are not war criminals. Since the most notorious war criminals of all time were the Nazi Germans and their collaborators, it is particularly horrific to accuse Jews and/or Israel of "war crimes." There is no shortage of war crimes throughout the world. Rwanda. Dharfur. The Congo. Nigeria. Sierra Leone. Ivory Coast. North Korea. I guess the world doesn't really care about THOSE ongoing war crimes, because they don't involve Palestinians. So even though the death tolls are well into the millions, since you cannot blame a Jew, you are just not interested. No sale. Do you know what that makes you? Can you spell "hypocrite?" Oh -- and please elaborate upon your accusations. I'm saying they are baseless and without foundation. Waitin' on you, Balla, baby. Oh -- one more thing: please don't give me "death" tolls compiled by the Red Crescent. Remember Jenin? (Thousands, down to hundreds, down to 45, down to 9 .... with all the dead confirmed to be terrorists.) So, no Red Crescent, okay? Moreover, don't cite to Al Jazeera, please. I'm interested in legitimate and credible news agencies and reports. Later for you!
23. To: Konrad at No. 21
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (02.18.09)
Excuse me, sir, but what you have provided is known in the legal world as a double hearsay. Someone claims something -- no photographs; no corroboration -- which is then printed by a news source so far to the left as to be beyond the field. Anyone on Talkback remember the "sick Palestinian girl" syndrome in the West Bank? They gagged for the camera, cried for the camera, vomited for the camera, yada yada, but no physician could find anything wrong with them. Including the ones flown in from Europe JUST for these girls. Pack of lies, the whole thing; meant to incite and inflame world opinion against Jews and Israel. You've just added fuel to the fire. I shall call your nauseating attempt at disinformation the women's white head scarves syndrome. Where are the TV cameras? Where are the international journalists? YOU FOOL. The United Nations -- no friend of Israel -- has itself been consistently downwardly revising the numbers of civilian deaths in Gaza. I don't know what soldiers do in Poland (well, actually, I do, and it isn't good so let's not go there) -- Israeli soldiers do not shoot civilians who are demonstrably noncombatants. One last thing, Konrad: how is it possible to both approach soldiers waving women's white headscarves as flags of surrender while simultaneously fleeing from said soldiers? Walking forward while running backward? Kind of taxes the old logic meter, doesn't it? Try again, Konrad.

It is very refreshing to read a series of articulate and well analyzed talkbacks. Sometimes it appears that only the anti-Semites and uninformed have the inclination to post. Keep up the good work!
25. # 23
Konrad ,   Warsaw   (02.18.09)
Sorry, lady, but Amira Hass (who is an Israeli journalist and has first hand experience of living in Gaza) is a reliable source of information, as far as I am concerned more reliable than Mr. Friedmann. And, lady, save yourself the bother of producing more senseless innuendos about the UN, the left and Poland.
26. Amira Hass -- Apologist for terrorists
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (02.18.09)
Amira Hass is one of the most hated people in Israel. She is so far to the left, she exceeds the political spectrum. She has been accused of exaggerating the truth on any number of occasions. Some of the claims she made during her tenure in Gaza have NEVER been corroborated, and there is more than ample evidence that she has fabricated material for effect. My parents are from Poland, sir. Jewish concentration camp survivors. I can say whatever I want to about Poland. You don't have to like it, but I can say it.
27. 19, Steve is right . IOF culpable in women's deaths
lydia ,   Brisbane, Australia   (02.19.09)
Just like the World saw the dancing Jews on the rooftops after 9/11. Your IOF has already acknowledged their culpability in the deaths of the women among who were the daughters and niece of Dr Izzeldine Abuelaish and the whole world heard his screams of anguish as it reverberated across the globe. The irony is that Abuelaish is a pioneer of Israel's IVF program. No Hamas favorite Photo Op or PR machine could outdo the IOF wanton slaughter of the innocents.
28. Sarah, it is long passed time to hit them back
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (02.19.09)
All the accusers of Israel do this at the slightest perceived offense because they want to cleanse themselves this way of the guilt they have toward Jews. My family was affected much less in a neighboring country to Poland, nonetheless it makes me want to go there and kill the Poles like the Bielski Brothers did, when I read these idiots commenting here Even after the war pogroms against the surviving Jews continued in Poland and the perpetrators together with the Nazi collaborators during the war need to be brought to the International Court for war crimes
29. Sarah one more thing about Amira Hamas
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (02.19.09)
During the recent events in Gaza she wrote many reports about Gaza without being there. They were based, by her admission, on telephone conversations with Arbs in Gaza while deriding the testimonies of the soldiers who participated in the same events. Numerous times I caught her in lies and contradictions, that were so obvious just by reading her reporting alone
30. stop apologising and kill the enemy
