1. at least learn basic facts
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.24.09)
if for no other reason than to keep from sounding uneducated and blindly superstitious. but to each his own.
2. Religion divides people
Avi ,   Ramat Gan   (02.24.09)
Religion divides people and is the biggest killer of mankind . More so than any disease. killing, and and starting wars in the name of religion.
3. Israel, you are all so wrong about true Christianity.
Bible Believer   (02.24.09)
Christianity is NOT Catholicism. It is a pagan off shoot devised by Emperor Constantine. If you would take the time to READ the Brit Ha-Hadasha, you would see that there is NO NO NO resemblence what so ever.
4. avi, you are so wrong
yaacov ,   jerusalem   (02.24.09)
i know its fashionable to say that religion is the biggest killer, but lets look at the facts. in the last century lets look at the battles, wars and massacres which had nothing to do with religion: world war one world war two the Holocaustthe cold war (vietnam, korea, etc) stalin purges and death camps pol pot and khmer rouge rwanda genocide east timor darfur congo apartheid south africa zimbabwe wars, juntas and revolutions in south america ...... i could go on, but you get the idea. look out how many died in these wars, battles, etc and now compare that with how many people died in wars spurred on by religion.
5. Christianity
Alon Frank ,   Beth Shemesh, Israel   (02.24.09)
As a religious jew and as somebody who grew up with non jewish neighbors,I do reject Christianity. There are so many things that are written in the old testament, but rejected in the new one. That's why I reject it. I do respect their religion, but I am against missionaries that are trying to convert jews. Their religion causes immorality. This is exactly why Muslims and Jews are rejecting it. BTW, Muslims are way more closer to judaism than Christianity. Their Koran has many rules which they took from our Torah. The Islam also fights immorality and impurity like the Jews.
6. God is against religion; Christianity is a way of life
Zohan ,   Tel Aviv   (02.24.09)
7. who is aiding who???
m ,   jerusalem   (02.24.09)
All these Israeli's better wake up really fast and realize that Christians are our allies, from the US to Britian to the rest of Israel's allies they are all Christian nations. Imagine what would happen if the US stops giving Israel 15 million dollars a day! or if the US and Britain stop supplying us with weapons and turn their back on us. With no allies who would be there for us in our time of need. Even if they were standing behind the curtain during our wars, but all of our supply lines came from these christian governments. Think about that !!!
8. #5
sanna ,   Sweden   (02.24.09)
Nothing in the new testament is in opposition with the old testamnet/tanakh - God is always the same, and if it seams like christians believe otherwise, it´s because through history for example the vatican mixed with pagan religion, and denied that the jews are the choosen people. The only difference in our faith is: we as bibelbeliving christian are convinced Yeshua is Messiah, and he will soon come to establish his Kingdom, save and reestablish the jews. Salvation through Yeshuas sacrifice on the cross, for those who repent their sins, and belive in Him.
9. #5: Please, show me the inmorality in the New Testament.
Jonathan   (02.24.09)
10. Israel will only survive as as Jewish nation
(02.24.09)
We must never recognize, multiculturalize or assimilate other peoples ashamed faiths to Judaism. I'm getting sick of all these Xtian articles on Ynet trying to make us look intolerable while the Vatican gets away with Holocaust denial.
11. Schools
Miriam ,   Jerusalem   (02.24.09)
Secular schools should teach Judaism first. Most secular Jewish kids know almost nothing about their own religion.
12. All religions should be studied ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (02.24.09)
Scientifically, objectively, without any politically correct platitudes, without historical distortion. Religion is a complex historical development, how religions developed, what their doctrines mean in practice, where doctrines originated, how specific historical events influenced their direction, all this is part of the history of ideas. White-washing, apologies, excuses for bad behavior & intolerence, should not be part of the study of religion. No one should be ''offended'' by objective, scientific truth or at least, our best approximation of truth in light of current knowledge.
13. christianity
dave garrick ,   auckland new zealand   (02.24.09)
it must be remembered that not all christians are catholic,to read your news would suggest you think so.And not all catholics call themselves christians, some say they are simply catholics . And much of the christian support for israel comes from other christian denominations. And if the money given by these groups isn't desired will they fill the void.In the new testament early christians tried to share with others while the pharisees and sadducees and teachers of the law were only looking after themselves.Has anything changed.
14. As a secular , i reject christian missionaries too
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.24.09)
Even self proclaimed "Orthodox Jews" who preache for their Yeshua as a messias . Those FAKE "jews" are the most dangerous for people who are NOT aware of them . When a not disguised Christian missionary comes , people know who is trying to talk to them . Not with FAKE ones . As a people who suffered from religious persecution we may not persecute other faiths , as long as they behave as we did , obey some laws we had to obey . We did'nt proselyte . We were not always allowed to build Synagogues , or even to pray . So for me , they may have their churches , but not build new ones in Yeroushalaim . Teaching the NT in schools ? We can teach about christianity , in the same way our children are teached history or geography . They have to know who and what they are . They have to know that the inquisition was a Catholic crime against Jews . They have also to know that many Catholics , amongst them priests , rescued Jews during WWII , but that the then Pope did'nt openly condemn the nazi crimes , and this not during NOR after the war . Teaching christianity in christian schools [ i think that there are here ] no problem for me .
15. Mr. Avi #2
david Cohen ,   china   (02.24.09)
If you are not a believer then what r u doing in Erets Yisrael? without the belief in the Torah u r nothing but an imperialist, an impostor, a foreigner that grabbed a land that does not belong to him. Get out and return the land to the Arabs! we took possession of the Land of Israel because the Torah says that it is ours.
16. islam is monotheist, Catholicism is pagan
David Cohen ,   china   (02.24.09)
what Channel 10 is despicable. u don't level with the wrong and try to emulate them. what the pope did is wrong and no one expected the father of catechism to act fairly. religious jews know that islam is much closer to judaism than christianity is. catholicism in particular is a pagan religion that has zero in common with judaism. those who took the time to study its concept (catholicism in particular) it is totally opposite judaism
17. # 5 and in general - we all need to read more
M. ,   Israel   (02.24.09)
Alon, I suggest you take the Tanach and compare it to the New Testament writings on your own before you make statements that come over as if you have no idea what you are talking about. Read for yourself and compare for yourself, if you realy care to know that is. If you still come to the same conclusion, then yu can at least say you checked it out in detail for yourself. The way you say what you say just sounds as if you are completely ignorant and just believe what you hear said by others, but never bothered to see for yourself. Ignorance of the other Religions, or ways of life, faiths and that there is a difference between faith and Religion in the first place, or traditions is one of the biggest problems in Israel. A country so multi-cultural and yet its people so utterly ignorant of anything that is not like them, even next door neighburs that come from a differenet background. All religions should be taught in our schools for the simple reason that our kids have no idea what is going on in the world and why peple behave the way they do - it is all connected and our kids should know what Islam is, Buddism, Hinduism, BUT first of all what real Bibnlical Judaism is all about. And what the difference is to what rabbis have said as well. And imagine, there is a difference!Enough with only Rabbis having the monopoly on telling us about the Tanach - everyone can open the Book and read for themselves! Or is evryone illiterate now???? Anyone opening their mouths about how "others" believe should go and educate themeselves first! Just my 2 pennies worth......
18. Most religious have their roots in arab world.
Inyaki ,   Bibao, Basque   (02.24.09)
Most of the religious people who have answered the pall, are probably having their roots in islamic countries. This is why they have no idea of Christianity, nor of Judeo-Christian philosofy. This is basically a European concept. They rather follow Baba Sally, or reb Kaduri. Therefore, their judaism is indeed closer to Islam.
19. What about Jewish persecution of Christians?
Steve   (02.24.09)
Should Israeli schools teach about how Jews relentlessly persecuted the first Christians, not to mention Bar Kochba's reign of terror? And now that Jews are in the majority in Israel, the persecution of Christians like in Arad, the child of Messianics in Ariel, and the work of Yad L'Achim against law abiding Christians? There are crimes to go around for everyone, and today as well as in early Christianity, suffering continues in Israel.
20. Forgiving
zichron   (02.24.09)
The goodness of jesus a jewish philosopher was forgiveness . Jesus was a real softie. Now look at the yoks how they perverted jesus . The serbs and croations . The british and french. The ukranaians and poles . All christians but lets face it yoks . Jesus was ours but the roman yok influence crucified him.
21. Visiting Holy Places
Judith Almog ,   Israel   (02.24.09)
I think that Holy Places should be open for everyone to visit. I think that it's crap to think that most Churches are missionaries. My shul has a good realationship with the Monastary at Latrun,we celabrated Hanukah and Christmas together and it was beautiful. We should stop being afraid of one another. Most of the secular Jews living in Israel have non-Jewish family aboard and love them like an other family member.
22. It's simple. Don't take if you don't want and don't complain
JO   (02.24.09)
This is stupid. If you want the money then complain about where it is coming from and then insult those giving it, why bother? If it is a problem then just don't take the money, find resources your conscience will allow and be done with it. It sounds a little hypocritical to moan so much about accepting money from Christains - no one is forcing anyone to do so. You don't need to accept if it bothers you, there are plenty Jewish sources out there. And as to Christianity taught in schools. I see no problem, basic tenents of the main religions should be taught without fanfare, representing the world we live in. We are afraid of what? Are we so weak? We are not an ignorant nation.
23. Tolerance and respect for others as we wish for ourselves.
L ,   Elad, Israel   (02.24.09)
HOWEVER. This being a Jewish country that is sorely undereducated in its own Jewishness, we have no business teaching Christianity other than in historical passing (not teaching their rituals, like how to say the catechism and how to go to confessional properly). It shows how woefully uneducated the secular Israel is in their own Judaism that more than half think Christianity is closer to Judaism than Islam. Islam, upon threat of death, is the only religion that a Jew may "convert" to (if a gun is to his/her head) because they believe in ONE G-d, as is our fundamental belief. No god-son Jesus, no "holy ghost" trifecta that is considered idol worship. No they should not be sold Jewish land and should definitely be disallowed from proselytizing (they have set up many a shop in Jerusalem attempting to convert Jews to Christianity). They should also not receive funding "the same as any Jewish institution". What nonsense! There are many Christian countries and organizations to fund them, but only ONE Jewish state. (by the way, to all the religious zionist TB-ers who say we shouldn't accept X-ian funding: Nefesh B'Nefesh is funded MOSTLY by Christian fundamentalist organizations. They believe that before their messiah can come the Jews need to return to Israel first, and then they can take over as the true chosen and kick us out afterwards :) -- to me that's acceptable: I'd benefit from that money, because their interest is self-serving and not trying to convert anyone. They have their reasons for giving it and the olim have theirs for accepting it. Why not?) Respect and tolerate as long as they do not infringe on our Judaism, our land and our people. Any secure Jew should never be afraid of others' ideas or practices as long as they're not attempting to convert the young and impressionable or impose. Respect and be respected.
24. YeshuaHaMasjiach
Eli Ganan ,   Amsterdam   (02.24.09)
What should be taught in Israel is not Christianity , but the faith in the Jewish Masjiach YeshuaBenDavid. The Christians still have to get used to the fact that through Yeshua they can become part of Israel, and not the other way round.God choose Jerualem and not Rome. And peace with G-d is only through theJewish Masjiach YeshuaBenDavid.
25. Burn up the chaff? Deut 13?
Josh   (02.24.09)
As a convert and learned in new testament and later Torah (OT), I can say most Christians missed Jesus' clarification to followers that he had not come to bring peace to the world but war. He spoke of a consuming fires of war "burning up the chaff". That chaff is our fallen from Torah. There is not one messiah prophecy claim that fits in context. The virgin birth was a sign for Ahaz 20 generations before. Jesus agrees he is not a prince of peace. I don't think we should teach falseness here unless we agree with being chaff. If so we get what we have coming – “or chose a curse”.
26. Should children "Become ban like it"
JP   (02.24.09)
The words of G-d are clear. If you bring a pagan/forbidden object/book/idol into your home, you will become ban like it. So anyone who thinks we should tuck a copy of new testament text in the book bags of children, read the warnings of Devarim first and double think. Devarim 4 prohibits adding words to what Moses delivered that day. Anyone dare not add. Do you want to put a mitzvah in the hearts of the children or a book that quotes past tense Torah as future tense prophecy? I stand against such nonsense. If you want to learn made up things go read a science fiction novel. Leave our children’s souls at a great distance from claims we can read for ourselves are false. Return to Torah - everyone. Jesus gave this message to those who passed his tests and steered clear of innuendo-so Christians should concede. Those who failed, well?!
27. L , Elad
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.24.09)
Do you know that in some countries , Jewish schools , Rabbanim are paid by the State , totally or partly . And those are christian states . They have even 2 hours religious education for Jews who attend non Jewish schools , by a Jewish teacher, paid by the state , in the same way as other recognised religions or humanistic moral . Regarding "most secular Jews in Israel have non Jewish family members abroad" , not the Jews originating from my galut , town i know , and i know many . Maybe an exeption .
28. Alon Frank , we reject christianity simply
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.24.09)
because we are Jews , seculars or religious alike . We reject christianity because for us the Maschiach is still awaited , has still to come . We reject christianity because we can't believe in a son of a god , nor in his mother or his resurrection .
29. "Jewish Masjiach YeshuaBenDavid" How?
David   (02.24.09)
How can he be? His father wasn't from the line of David. Liniage is paternal. His father was a spirit that violated the betrothal oath of Mary and Jospeh when he chose Mary over all the other non-bethrothed virgins. This was a suprise to Joseph who prepaired to mary an then divorce her rather than have her put to death as was the Tirah law practiced in that day. You know the in the days when they were ready to stone Mary Magdalin. You highlight the workings of Jews for Jesus and show Jews how important it is to know the words of Torah (OT) well.
30. If Christans can get over the magic man / blood sacrifice
Fake Jew ,   USA   (02.24.09)
as a means of getting G-d to forgive you (called Grace), then maybe more religious "literalists" Jews would begin to seek common ground. Roman Christanity (which is predominant Christian today), is nothing more then trying to paganise Orthodox Jewish views into a neat "grace package" for the nations.
