2. Joe # 1 . You want the death of Jews ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.27.09)
Because they don't observe Shabbat ? I suppose that you are a believer , and as a such one , you have to believe that "god" will judge them . There were certainly much "believing" Jews in Agadir , they were'nt protected either . The same as during the Shoa , no god because there is no .
3. #1 Yes!, and those soldiers killed were not observing Torah
observer   (02.27.09)
or maybe they were not observing the true version of Torah.
4. #1 and like minded people
jj   (02.27.09)
plate tectonics do not care who you are, where you come from or what religion you believe in. COME OUT OF THE BRONZE AGE AND GET A REAL EDUCATION. really, youre embarrassing yourself.
5. This is where you are wrong # 4
JB ,   NYC   (02.27.09)
If we accept that the almighty created everything then he also created the plate tectonics whatever they may be and the almighty use these little technical plates against those that don't keep shabbat It stands to reason.

look, ascribing earthquakes to the vengeful hand of a creator is what superstitious, primitive people did to explain a phenomenon that they understood nothing about. centuries of scientific research and study has shown us that the tectonic plates that float on the earth's core and that we are all sitting on top of, cause the ground to tremble and/or rift when they converge/diverge. it is a very simple natural phenomenon and is easy to understand. as raindrops are not caused by a weeping goddess or thunder by a god riding his chariot across the sky, earthquakes are not caused by a god who cares what people do on a certain day of the week. the hand of god does not move the plates. simple (or slightly complex actually) physics according to the rules of our universe governs their movement. [i await your "physics could be said to be the hand of god" comment.] now by all means, believe what you want as i understand that ignorance of the real causes of such things can be comforting since it can be used as "proof" that there is a god and that he has a very direct hand in what goes on on this planet. however, for the rest of us who accept the actual reality of the situation, we will continue to grow from the knowledge we have worked so hard for. on a side note; you're telling me you believe in a god that will destroy a city because some people are not keeping shabbat, but sits back as trains packed with men, women and children make their way to the gas chambers?

NYC Girl   (02.27.09)
If there really is a God who has that kind of power, why the hell isn't he using it to get rid of the dictators, despots and genocidal maniacs in the world? You see, it's exactly this sort of nonsense about a God who kills Jews because they don't observe the Sabbath that turns a lot of us into non-believers. And don't forget that many of those Israelis who don't observe the Sabbath are soldiers who are willing to sacrifice their lives to defend the State of Israel.
8. #1 and #5
E ,   Canada   (02.27.09)
Yours is a very dangerous view to be holding. While I believe that the Almighty is always in complete charge of the universe, I wonder who you think you are to presume to know the mind of G_d? Your sages teach that bad things can happen to good people and it is impossible for us to always know why. For this reason, it is always better to believe the best of people than to pronounce harsh judgments. I presume form your comments you must always celebrate Shabbat in every minute detail, never even inadvertently breaking any of its laws. Let us hope you are not held to the same standards you hold your fellow Jews. By the way, why do you keep Shabbat?
9. Thank you, ingrates...
Aaron ,   SF, USA   (02.27.09)
for ruining the story by turning it into a theological debate.

NYC Girl   (02.28.09)
Actually, you're right. I guess that sometimes it takes more restraint than some of us can muster when we read these obscene comments about God punishing Jews who don't observe the Sabbath or aren't kosher. Perhaps, next time we can try to reserve such discussions for when it's more relevant to the subject matter because the story of Moroccan Jews is really a very interesting one. In fact, as you probably know, prior to the influx of Russian immigrants, Moroccan Jews made up the largest ethnic group in Israel, and their Mamouna celebrations, for instance, attracted Israelis from many different backgrounds.
11. #1 you are sick
rachel ,   usa   (02.28.09)
12. #1, it's People like You who keep me from Religion
Esther ,   Ofarim, Israel   (02.28.09)
Disgusting self-righteous people with a Taliban like attitude.
13. Is "You Make Me Sick" A Serious Response?
Brana Lobel ,   Israel   (02.28.09)
Isn't there another was to approach this book, the author, and the commenters than hating each other's viewpoints? If you believe in Hashem, it is obviously that good people die along with bad people in many cases. Why this happens many sages have questioned and come up with some explanations. Yes there are actually scholars who have come up with opinions similar to #1's, but unless you understand the thinking behind the opinion your negative response is ignorant and means nothing. This article is not very explanatory about the author's point of view and unless people read the book the discussions are nonsense. Shtuyot. As is the commenter about tectonic plates, who is stuck on a different level of meaning and does not accept the notion of Hahsem and thus is pointless to dialogue with except to clarify one's position.
14. Long-lost Moroccan Jewish
Voice of Reason ,   Here Now & Forever   (03.01.09)
They were as you are all my children. I love you as I loved them no matter what you or they believe. As any parent does. Do not expect to understand why I allow "things to happen" for you are not capable of understanding. When you all learn to love each other as you love yourselves you can find true peace. Be tolerant of one another for none of you are perfect. I truely love you ALL. Your Creator.
15. Dr Baziz Is Fortunate To Have Escaped Morocco
Brana Lobel ,   Israel   (03.03.09)
Despite the King of Morocco's pleas for Jews to return, this is what is happening in Morocco: http://www.jihadwatch.org/ Morocco: Muslim gets 10 years for role in Casablanca suicide attacks that killed 45 people casablanca145.jpeg A sentence worthy of a corrupt official Ten years for a role in killing 45 people: tough anti-jihad measures in Morocco! "Moroccan jailed for 10 years over Casablanca bombs," from AFP, March 2 (thanks to Jeffrey Imm): RABAT (AFP) — A Moroccan man already convicted over the 2004 Madrid bombings was sentenced Monday on appeal to 10 years in jail for his role in suicide attacks the year before in Casablanca that killed 45 people. Hassan Al Haski, 41, was arrested in Spain in 2004 and extradited to Morocco in September 2008 while serving a 14-year sentence for belonging to the group that carried out the Madrid bomb attacks that killed 181 people. His sentencing on appeal Monday comes less than four weeks after he was acquitted by Morocco's anti-terrorist tribunal and was met with an angry response from his lawyer. "It's an unfair verdict, the appeals process was summary," said Khalil El Idrissi.... What do you want, Khalil? That they give him a medal? ***
16. To JL #6. Rules Of The Universe.
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (03.07.09)
You say :”.. physics according to the rules of our universe governs their movement.” Dear JL, IF physics works according to rules of the universe then the following question arises : who has created the rules of the universe ? IF there are rules in the universe -- then it implies that there MUST be a ruler of the universe. Because it is the ruler who creates rules. Without ruler there can be NO rules ! We (ordinary human beings) may discover one rule after another by our scientific research -- but that does not mean that I have discovered the Ruler of the universe. TO discover the Ruler of the universe -- that is a higher science (then the science of discovering rules of the universe). Nay, it is the highest science -- to say it more aptly. BTW I am not talking about the rest of your TB. Another point. The ruler MUST be a person. Yet another point. There may be many rulers. BUT the supreme ruler is called the Supreme Lord. (BTW have you ever heard of a country having rules -- but having no ruler. IF there is NO ruler -- there will be chaos in the country. Rules implies there is a ruler ; law implies there is a lawmaker.)
17. To NYC #7. You Are The Dear Daughter.
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (03.07.09)
You say :”.. why the hell isn't he (i.e. Supreme Lord) using it to get rid of the dictators, despots and genocidal maniacs in the world?” Dear NYC, the Supreme Lord is NOT our (i.e. your and mine) servant. ON the contrary, we (i.e. you and I) are supposed to be the servants of the Supreme Lord. AT the present moment we are engaged in the service of our senses -- we have become servants of our senses. AS long as we remain servants of our senses -- the Supreme Lord can NOT be approached by such a person. Dear NYC, if you are REALLY interested in knowing the Supreme Lord -- you should pray to YAHWEH, the Supreme Lord. If you are REALLY interested -- YAHWEH, the Supreme Lord, will reveal Himself to you more and more. You don’t need to go to the Synagogue, Church, Mosque, or Temple in order to be able to pray to YAHWEH. You can remain in your home (or ANY other place) and pray to YAHWEH -- and you WILL get help. WHY ? Because you are the dear daughter of YAHWEH, the Supreme Lord. By praying EVERYDAY -- more and more knowledge will be revealed to you about your eternal father, YAHWEH the Supreme Lord. It is that simple. But the question is : are you REALLY interested. IF NOT -- YAHWEH, the Supreme Lord, will NOT reveal Himself to you. SO it all boils down to your seriousness -- NO one else can help you in acquiring seriousness.
18. How self-centered !
Stéphanie ,   Paris   (03.27.09)
"an earthquake in southwest Morocco nearly destroyed the city of Agadir, killing some 15,000 of its residents, including 1,500 of the city's 2,300 Jews. " Yes, this is the first news I remember hearing on the news when a kid in Paris and I still think of it with horror. Why only focus on the 1,500 victims, not on the 15,000 ones of whatever religious background ?
19. you wanna know who creat the rules if unvers
