We sympathize with Israel for having had to endure suicide bombings for 20 years, kidnapping of Israeli soldiers by Palestinian terrorists, and 6,000 missiles raining down upon Israel from Gaza. I don't know which USA you purport to come from, and I don't really care. But it sure isn't the United States of America which I call home.

As it happens, it was only a week or so back that I watched the "Secret Files of the Inquisition" program via NetFlix. Spain has a lot to answer for, but the notion that one can prosecute Spain for it is childish. Seriously, who would you put in the dock? They're all long dead. That said, it is rather arrogant and audacious of Spain to decide it can pass moral judgement on Israel. Indeed, those of us who have studied the issue have long recognized that the notion of "universal jurisdiction" is beyond a legal fiction. It is a crock! And we've seen how it is abused for political purposes. I'm with JMP in NYC. As far as I'm concerned, those who presume to sit in judgement of Israel can all go to hell. I also think Israel was wrong to provide any documentation to the Spanish Courts, as it granted them undeserved legitimacy. But I wouldn't expect any more from Livni. Israel should make clear it considers this show trial an unfriendly act and, if necessary, downgrade diplomatic relations. It can also ask the Israeli public who would otherwise vacation in Spain to consider another destination. We've seen, as in the case with Turkey, that many will respond to such a request.

under US law, the Statute of Limitations on a crime doesn't start to count until the final act of the crime is over. In the matter of the Inquisition, the Vatican has recently put Queen Isabella up for sainthood for her actions in those years.
