31. # 30
hakim ,   usa   (03.04.09)
NO its not ours...But its no longer yours either...Cheers
32. Gaza part of Egypt?
John C ,   Kings Lynn, UK   (03.04.09)
A nice idea, but I doubt if yhe government of Egypt wants to risk being destabilised by Hamas.
33. two state solution bad for the west
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (03.04.09)
as it encourages the Islamists that the only solution is violence and it brings advances for Islam it thus undermines the pragmatists it thus encourages the Islamist ideology in the rest of the world specifically Europe thus causing terrorism whereas if the Islamists saw that their extremism causes destruction this will undermine the non pragmatists and encourage pragmatism .Recent history proves my thesis in which withdrawal from Gaza Egypt and Lebanon resulted in extremism violence and war.
34. two state solution impossible and will never happen
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (03.04.09)
because concessions to the Palestinians causes violence and war and since Israel will not commit suicide or allow its demise it will provoke Israel to destroy its enemies and thus there never can be two states history proves that right is might
35. think of this
Raed ,   Nablus/Palestine   (03.04.09)
West bank and Israel one state same rights Arabs and Jews, Gaza to Egypt, im sure most of Plaestinians in the West Bank would vote yes for this solution
36. three-state federation
Ahmed   (03.04.09)
A three-state federation could be a good idea. With all parties inter-connected through government bodies . A two state solution there is the inherent risk of violence. The problem could only be solved through dialogue. We must also remember that both Jewish and Palestinians don’t want to give up any land that was settled or occupied. So a three state federation could be a good choice. Let them people decide instead of politicians.
37. I completely agree with you...
Veronique ,   Israel   (03.04.09)
Ignore them and they will stop... A one state solution is not possible as we (the Jews) would very quickly lose the majority... and we don't want that. I think the possibility of Jordan taking part of the West Bank and Egypt taking Gaza would be a good solution... But do they want those problems?
38. Good points but none of them will work!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (03.04.09)
Why, because Arab Unity is dead. This was the result of the vote at the BBC Doha Debates about two weeks ago. The Palestinians are just as bad as the Jews when it come to opinions, agreements and consensus. The only difference is that they, like Muslims all over the world, resort to violence when they don't get their way. Jews just bring down the Government and waste NIS200 million on a General Election which will return us to the same situation as before. Anyone who believes that Fatah and Hamas can work together in the short ot log term is living in an illusion. What the Palestinians really want is the "status quo" so say can blame Israel for everything, raise lots of money from the Arab world so the leaders can live of the fat of the land while the people live in squalor. The most important reason is they won't have to provide for the welfare of their own because Israel, the USA and the EU will!
39. It's all a scam
(03.04.09)
The Arabs of Israel will never want a country. Even if they exterminate the Jews like #23 and most of the Arabs want (read Hamas and Fatah charter), they would prefer to live under UN rule so they can get money from the world without doing anything productive.
40. #36 good idea
Daweed ,   Yemin   (03.04.09)
Something like this was floated a few years ago by a few Israelis and it was dismissed as impossible. I agree though, a Pal, Isr, Jord confederation is a good idea politically, socially, and economically. It's time we cousins re-unite and better ourselves.
42. Three or Four state Confederation
DonRaha ,   Maldives   (03.04.09)
A model like Swiss Confederation could work. West Bank, Gaza and Israel or West Bank, Gaza, Israel and Jordan That way there will be plenty of land and resources for everyone to live a happy life.
43. Fantasyland
Giora Me'ir ,   USA   (03.04.09)
We will now return you to reality.
44. #36 & #40 - How exactly will it work?
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (03.04.09)
How will a Palestinian, Israeli and Jordanian confederation actually work? Who will have authority where? Jordan in the West Bank, Palestine in Gaza and Israel right where it is now? Egypt has already said they don't want an Islamic theocracy on it's border- this means that either Fatah comes in and crushes Hamas in Gaza (which is not going to happen, believe me), Israel comes in and crushes Hamas in Gaza or Jordan comes in and crushes Hamas in Gaza. Either way, we're talking about much greater casualties than the 1300 who died in Dec & Jan. Also, what about the "Right of Return"? Asking Israel to open up its borders to a hostile Arab population that was spoon-fed anti-Israeli rhetoric from the day one is delusional. If the Right of Return happens, these refugees will have to "return" to an Arab state. This begs the question, though- if they're moving from one Arab state to another and the legal requirement of "return" as defined by the UN resolution is not being fulfilled, why not just let them become citizens of the countries they are currently in? As far as I can see, the only viable solution for peace is dissolving the idea of a Palestinian state (which will only be a Baathist-style thugocracy like Saddam's Iraq or Assad's Syria at best), Egypt and Israel working together to crush Hamas and divide Gaza between Egypt and Israel, and Israel and Jordan dividing the West Bank with some population exchange between Palestinians, Israeli Arabs and Jewish Settlers. The Palestinian State, if it is ever created, will be a Baathist thugocracy at best or an Islamist theocracy at worst. We need to work together to cancel Palestine and create peace...
45. Two peoples, Two states
Sheri ,   rockville, USA   (03.04.09)
There is no obligation for Israelis to form a state with a totally foreign government of people. One state solutions are for the violent & annihilators or Jewish sovernty. No reason for Israelis (Jewish & non) to move from secular government to Islamic dominated one. Unless you are Islamic or Arab and want to DOMINATE. Two states won't work either but land from Eygpt to make it viable and/or Jordan citizenship...both go much further than the current stalement. There is no problem with "extremists" in Israel. They want peace too -- just not by giving up the country in total ignorance of the goals repeatedly expressed to annhihlate it as soon as they other side is in that position. They oppose two states because currently it will not work, as described in article. Not one PA supporter has outlined why that's not so.
46. israeli ethos
phil ,   not lalaland   (03.04.09)
"The Palestinian ethos is based on values such as justice, victimization, revenge, and above all, the "right of return." Just take out Palestinian from the above quote and put in Israeli ..
47. #14 Oh, I see.......
Faraz ,   Meldreth, UK   (03.04.09)
Choose who you want, as long as you choose who we want.......that's logical....
48. Briiliant, & I agree (but...)
Susan ,   DC USA   (03.04.09)
...you're just refining the 2-state solution. Maybe when discussing it in future, you could present it this way - you might get even less resistance.
49. #4 & #47 - When a people chooses war...
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (03.04.09)
When a people chooses war over peace and genocide over coexistence, that people pays the price for their decision, regardless of whether their government is victorious in its aims or fails in them. When the Palestinians voted for Hamas, they voted for war against Israel. Now as in 1948, they continue to pay the price for their foolishness...
50. ABSOLUTELY NO TWO-STATES AND NO CEDING JERUSALEM!
marlene ,   Philadelphia, USA   (03.04.09)
Oh, the evil insanity of America! How can an evil people, vowing the destruction of the country they occupy and killing its citizens, be given statehood and worse, take the capital of the country they occupy as its own capitol? INSANE. STUPID. EVIL. Shame on the U.S. of allah!
51. #44, How About Dissolving The Idea Of Israel Instead?
Jake   (03.04.09)
After all, isnt it a foreign implant by colonialist Europeans who invaded and conquered by force only a few decades ago? Free Palestine dude, the only other option is a great nuclear afterglow. Believe it!
52. No chance for 2 states
Ted ,   Atlanta, USA   (03.05.09)
I believe there are more than 2 alternatives: a more modest in scope but long term real cease-fire agreement in our time, for example. And don't make the mistake to take the Obama administration by its campaign slogans; expect much less rahter than more from the US administration for the next 4 years. I think your suggested first solution has absolutely no legs - it's dead on arrival and unrealistic. Rather Hamas in the background and a secular Fatah type leadership in front, but de facto functioning as one may be feasible for some time. Peace - as with Egypt or Jordan is not on the books with the Palestinians, not now, maybe never. Measures can be relaxed when they demonstrate fulfilling any obligations and building a civil society.
53. To Ali #23
Maurice ,   LA, USA   (03.05.09)
Can the 1.5 billion muslims go against G_D? That's all that matters in the end.
54. Logical error
Jakob ,   Sydney, Australia   (03.05.09)
Never mind your logical error, Eiland: You claim the probably of the West Bank falling to Gaza-like extremism sometime in the near future is as likely as chickens returning to the roost at night. But you go on to claim that Palestinians in the West Bank "prefer a Jordanian rule to Hamas rule". How are such divergent claims possible within a few paragraphs? Keep your claims factual and the fantasy out. orange camp claims regarding Torah and the land of Israel and based on more evidence than your ad hoc thoughts here.
55. To Ali #23. GIVEN by YAHWEH, The Supreme Lord.
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (03.05.09)
You say :” 1.5 billion muslims claim that part of the World “ Dear Ali, Israel, which includes Judea & Samaria (nowadays known as the West Bank), is the Homeland of the Jewish People GIVEN by YAHWEH, the Supreme Lord in 1220 B.Chr.. EVEN IF 1.5 billion thieves (i.e. Muslims) claims to be the owner of Israel, which includes Judea & Samaria, -- it does NOT become the property of the 1.5 billion thieves (i.e. Muslims). You claim ownership (of the Land of Israel, which includes Judea & Samaria) and YAHWEH, the Supreme Lord, claims ownership. SO, whose words should be accepted -- the words of 1.5 billion thieves (i.e. Muslims), or the words of YAHWEH, the Supreme Lord ??? Dear Ali, NO sane person throughout the world will accept the words of 1.5 billion thieves (i.e. Muslims). SANE persons will ONLY accept the words of YAHWEH, the Supreme Lord !!! BTW when did Israel, which includes Judea & Samaria, become Muslim property -- in 638 AD or in 63 B.Chr. ? BTW many have left the Islam religion. SO nowadays there are 1 billion Muslims in the world, if not less.
56. #51 hebrews, judeans were here long before arab occupation
palestinian history   (03.05.09)
57. #51 is that a serious threat? from iran or from you?
jacka   (03.05.09)
58. #51 - Jake, What about Palestine?
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (03.05.09)
After all, isn't Palestine a foreign implant by colonialist Romans and Arabs who invaded and conquered by force themselves? Also, wouldn't your proposed mass exodus of Arabs back into the region be, in itself, a third colonial venture? Speaking of "Free Palestine", when exactly was Palestine ever free? The only time I can think of Palestine being free was when Palestine was called Judea and this would mean that the real "Palestinians" are Jews. Then again, don't let pesky little things like facts and logic stand in the way of your ideology, "dude". The world did not begin in the year 1900- Believe it!
59. #52 - Ted, Just like in Gaza?
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (03.05.09)
"Rather Hamas in the background and a secular Fatah type leadership in front, but de facto functioning as one may be feasible for some time. Peace - as with Egypt or Jordan is not on the books with the Palestinians, not now, maybe never." A secular Fatah leadership tenuously holding onto power among a more religious and radical base sounds a lot like Baathist Syria and Iraq. It also sounds a lot like Gaza before Hamas' violent and bloody takeover of the strip. It's a failed state in the making. If peace isn't viable between the Palestinians and the Jordanians and the Egyptians, why choose to reject building on Israel's peace agreements with those 2 nations and substitute it with the creation of a failed state that will plunge the region into greater violence? If we define peace as merely the absence of war, this doesn't sound much like a road map to peace, does it?
60. #15
Matan Ar'ye Schwartz ,   Kibbutz Zikim   (03.05.09)
Kol HaKavod...we should get that printed on cards and mail it, repeatedly, to newspapers whenever the word apartheid is used in relation to Middle East discourse.
