Would a rabbi tell a jew who does not keep shabbat that he cannot keep kosher or eat kosher food? In this way the community fulfills the commandment which was given in the plural. At the time they lived in tents but Moses knew they would settle in buildings. Most of us live in apartments. Plenty of room at the entrances and in the hallways for writing out Torah words. The problem is the Rabbis will say we cannot do this. They have removed this law with another law about whether or not we can write God's name. They claim this is for fear of violation of misuse of God's name.
