How about we get the BEST ministers. The political system means than coalitions are put together by buying people off with ministerial jobs and 99% of the time they are not the right people for those jobs but they are there so a coalition can be put together. Netanyahu was one of the few examples of getting it right when he was given the finance job by Sharon because whatever else he did he turned around an economy that was in bad shape. Anybody remember Peretz the defense minister who had never served in the military, he was one of the founders of Peace Now, his idea of a pre emptive strike had more to do with the Histadrut than the IDF and of course he forgot to take the lens caps of his binoculars. Olmert though needed Labour to put together a coalition and Peretz price was the defense job so he got it and Olmert got his coalition. There were plenty of more capable men & women out there but they were either to low on the party list to be eligable for a ministerial job or they got a job another job because an idiot got it for political reasons. I don't care if the ministers are men women or monkeys what matters is they get the job done right.

several female friends of mine have told me they voted for Livni simply because she was a woman, they also admitted they have no idea or care to learn about Israeli politics, parties or national matters at all, I just recently moved from the Negev, where the same women I am speaking of were absolutely horrified by the incomming rockets, , go figure. Not all women are like this of course, many female friends of mine follow politics, Israeli, and world events very carefully, but there are enough in this country who will vote for Livni just because she is female. This is a problem, I'm begining to think people should have to pass some kind of test to be able to vote, for instance, be able to even tell you who the parties are and what their stances are.
