2. ? jews in iran?
vashDi ,   israEL   (03.16.09)
is this possible? they should count their blessings that they are still breathing and come home. calling all jews 'COME HOME'
3. Jews still living in Iran
NYC Girl   (03.16.09)
While it isn't about being unsympathetic to their plight, it's almost incomprehensible that these Iranian Jews hadn't learned the lessons of history and fled Iran as soon as the Ayatollah came to power. After all, it was clear from the outset that the new regime was going to be hostile to them.
4. Ahmadinejad has jewish roots!
IRAN#1   (03.16.09)
OK, that makes everything clear now , LOL!!
5. Jews in iran
clev ,   chicago,il   (03.16.09)
These jews are protecting holy sites in iran as in the graves of mordechai and esther. Without them all of the imporant historical artifacts would be lost/ desecrated.
6. Why Iranian Jews are still in there

It's so easy isn't it? A new regime comes to power and you suggest that all Iranian Jews should have just upped and left. Could you do that? If a US regime turned out to be inimical to you, could you within a few days simply leave your apartment, job, life, bank accounts and go to another country? It's very easy to sit in judgment - particularly when you are judging according to distorted facts. When Khomeini first came to power there was nothing to make Jews afraid - apart from a Zionist propoganda attempt to smear all Moslems as anti-Jewish. It's a pity you haven't been to Iran - firstly because with your arrogant opinions you might be arrested and then we wouldn't have to hear from you any more, but secondly because it might give you a chance to unfold your mind and see that the Jews in Iran, apart from some unjustified restrictions, are living without fear. All those enticements from foreign groups to convince them to emigrate have been in vain - they are satisified there, nothwithstanding the pathetic and unsound opinions of some upper west side or Long Island princess. As to it being "almost incomprehensible that these Iranian Jews hadn't [sic] learned the lessons of history and fled Iran" - what lessons would they be? Should they have learnt how to drive bulldozers so they could go an demolish Palestinian houses? Is that the better life that you are offering them? I love it when supremely ignorant people parade their supreme ignorance. Kol hakavod lakh.
9. Persian Jews in US
Mikhael ,   Los Angeles, USA   (03.17.09)
Here in Los Angeles there are tens (hundreds?) of thousands of Jews who escaped Iran. They all seem successful and happy here. Most of them aren't too Zionist, but they do love Israel and hold on to their Jewish roots. No love lost for the Iranian regime or what they left behind from what I can see.
10. #8 Dhimmi a break
Cynthia ,   USA   (03.18.09)
Jews living in Iran have dhimmi status and your statement that they "are living without fear" is your opinion, not a fact. In 1948 there were 100,000 Jews in Iran. By 2004 there were 25,000 and now there are 20,000. So life obviously is not so good for them because the majority have already emigrated. And how comfortable do you think these Persian Jews feel with a President that's a Holocaust denier?
11. R Cohen from NYTimes & Rick Steves should read this article!

12. Ahmad Jewish? Must be why NYTime columnists and
Mrs. Brown   (03.18.09)
popular travel writers/tv guides in US, and even the chair of the Anthropology Dept at Unive of MN all want to claim that Jews are just a-oaky in Iran and would be touring there. Ha! (By the way, this professor, of whom I have first hand experience, has been known to leave Jewish culture and history largely ignored in courses on "The Middle East" and absolutely no mention of Israel. Somehow, to people like this, Jews have no real or legitimate place or historic contribution or claim to even their original and spiritual homeland, let alone to anywhere in the modern Middle East. Talk about intellectual dishonesty. Of course, if one wants to continue to have safe access to conduct "field research" in Iran, I suppose one might be tempted to appease its regime by skape-goating others. What a shame for him, his students, and the credibility of his department.
