In the war against terror, Human rights, a Judeo-Christian value, should be considered differently. Israel would do well to cancel the visits of Palestinian prisoners' families, no longer allow detainees to complete their studies, and worsen their upgraded imprisonment conditions. Pressure on the part of Palestinian prisoners' families would greatly assist in presenting Hamas as failing to do enough to free its prisoners. Pack up everyone Hamas demands on to transports for the cameras to see. Transport them all to near the Gaza border where the rockets land. Keep them cuffed, shackled and in small groups inside of open air cages with portable toilets. No Red Cross, no telephones, no internet or no visitors within a hundred meters. Let the world press come with cameras to see them. Let everyone wait for Hamas to produce Shalit and show how he has been treated.

I am inclined to agree. Throw all Palestinians imprisoned in Israeli jails into solitary confinement and put them on bread and water diets. No visits from family. No human companionship. No one to talk to. Then we'll see.

The Olmert/Livni/Barak government has failed in freeing Shalit because they don't understand Hamas interests. Hamas is not critically interested in releasing the murderers. Hamas is interested in defeating, humiliating and demoralizing Israel. Every day Israelis beg for audience with Hamas increases Hamas' popularity in the Arab world and proves that Hamas won "Cast Lead". Thus, Hamas has no interest in finishing the negotiations. There is, however, one solution to defeat Hamas. All Israel has to do is decide that Shalit can't be freed (like it was decided with Baumel, Feldman, Katz, Halabi and Arad) and start building Jewish villages. If Hamas' only achievement in kidnapping Shalit is the construction of more Jewish homes, Hamas will lose power and dissappear.
