As long as the Hardim themselves and don't expect the Jerusalem municipality to pay for it then let then let them have it its no different to hiring a bus to go on a trip. Just the municipality not providing for a spesific sector when there is a viable alternative which everybody else uses. Most orthadox jews will happily sit or stand on a mixed bus with a woman at their side. Judaism doesn't say there is anything wrong with looking as long as you don't touch at least not in an intimate way. If these Haredim have so much trouble controling their urges sounds like the busses are not the issue maybe its something they should discuss with their wives not Egged.

If these sexually-obsessed cults have a problem with males and females meeting in public they must finance their own private transport. They have already gone to the extremes in some locations of separate entrances for food shops & simcha halls. I have also seen how ancient Rabbis tombs in Israel now have separate entrances making them look exactly like public lavatories!

If a portion of the public wants a certain service, why should it not be provided? No one is forcing anyone to use the segregated service. Would those who oppose it also oppose providing chocolate ice cream in addition to vanilla? If you don't like chocolate, don't buy it.

The libertarian in me has no problem with charedim setting up their own bus line to get the type of service they desire. However, I wouldn't be surprised if within a few months, the charedim insist on a state subsidy for the line, which our gut-less politicians will quickly approve. And the bottom line is that we the taxpayers will be paying for a segregated line.

The Haredi capitalists want their own bus lines, managed, run by their own and that suit their needs; however, the socialists state is preventing entreaupaneurship because it needs the Haredi public to keep riding their buses to keep the unions and pension plans inflated.

I am proud for the chareidim standing up for their rights. Yes, possibly lehalacha a segregated bus is not necessary, but many people are willing to impose extra kedusha on themselves. Egged decided to continue to force their doctrine on them, and they will succesfully fight back! We all know that if the arabs were the ones demanding separate buses they would be granted immediately. The war between those that are trying to destroy yiddishkeit and those that want to preserve it is just heating up. The frum will join together, and its ironic that the frei are just causing more achdus. The day will come when the frum will be granted autonomy within the medina. As for a well managed western state, the West allows for a lot more religious accomodations than the State of Israel. They should learn about religious freedoms. The State makes accomodations for the Muslims, but not the Chareidim.

williamsburgh chareidim run their own segregated buslines through manhattan, complete with separate bus stops along lower 5th ave. no one's up in arms over that.

When Hareidim forced everyone to segragate in certain Jerusalem bus lines, some people (as myself) did not like the idea. Now these guys organized themselves ON THEIR OWN w/o the financing of any one other than themselves/ fantastic!!!! Egged wont stand loosing grip on the monopol of Jerusalem transportation.

You're correct about the Haredi-run buslines in NYC. However, no one is up in arms over it because the Haredim don't have the power to inflict their medieval practices on the people of New York. But it's another story in Israel where they continue to up the ante any time their demands are capitulated to. As an example, consider the fact that El Al used to fly on the Sabbath until the religious parties coerced a Likud government into putting a stop to it. But that wasn't sufficient to satisfy them, and now they expect El Al to provide them with flights where the men and women will be segregated. And when you realize that the Haredim are a very small percentage of the Israeli population, it's amazing that they feel they have the right to coerce an overwhelmingly secular public to cave into their demands.
