1. Here we go again!
(03.24.09)
Each Jew has the right to be virtuous according to his/her own definition of virture and there is really no reason for the ultra-orthodox to serve as G-d's policemen on this or any other issues.
2. what's so wrong about

(03.24.09)
Shame Israel has no Jews left.
6. Desecration of the Torah
David ,   Yerushalayim   (03.24.09)
Being anti-Zionist, refusing to serve in the IDF. That's a bigger desecration of the Torah.
7. The Jewish Taliban
mike ,   Gedera   (03.24.09)
Religion is just a bureaucracy between man and god. Let people eat as they choose. Democracy not Theocracy. "Do what thou wilst shall be the whole of the Law"
8. Ortho hypocrites
Airborne ,   Jerusalem   (03.24.09)
"With great pain and anxiety we heard a bad rumor ..." Isn't that LaShon HaRa? Talking about rumors and spreading rumors? Hypocrites of course.
9. Public or Private? Law Contradicts Other Rulings
JM ,   Israel   (03.24.09)
The article says that because a store cannot be considered public (a private place) they therefore can sell bread on Peasach - the same court also ruled that a restaurant is a public NOT private place therefore they can ban smoking... this court is corrupt and does not rule based on the law but on there own opinions and beliefs.
10. Will Shas hold up its values and leave the government again?
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (03.24.09)
Last year this was enough of an issue that Shas left the government over it, will they this time or are they as big a set of hypocrites as most secular Israelis seem to think they are?
11. Forcing their lifestyle on the secular public
Avi ,   Rannana   (03.24.09)
Here we go again the charideem forcing their lifestyle on non belivers. These resturants are not kosher resturants and are not used by the religious public in the first place. If they wish to live by religious rules fine by they have no right to force such religious beliefs on non belivers. Israel is a democratic country not a state run according to Jewish Halacha. Thanks but i will go to resturnants in Pessach and eat what ever i like and will not be dictated to by a bunch of fanatical parasites. Like to see them try that in Tel Aviv. Now where is my bread roll recipe ?
12. Religious Coercion
NYC Girl   (03.24.09)
If the Haredim continue to try to force their religious practices down the throats of the non-religious Israeli public, they're going to start a civil war one of these days. It's only because the Arabs refuse to allow Israel to live in peace that the attention has been focused elsewhere for all these years. But listen to the things Israelis say when they're out of earshot, and you'll be stunned by the intensity of their hatred for this sanctimonious "holier than thou" attitude.
13. to all
meir ,   london   (03.24.09)
to all of you who think that the rabbis should stay out of all this let me ask you this. Why do you say israel belongs to us?who is US?Why are we better than all of the arabs/english/turks and all the rest that conquered this land? What right do we have to it more than anyone? Why did the jews davke want israel and not jamaica?????The answer is as follows: The Tora!!!!!! It says in the Tora that Hashem gave it to us!!!!!Taht is the only reason. Not history not for any other reason. Now if you choose to comply to the tora AND THAT MEANS THE RABBIS WHO ARE THE MOST LEARNED especially Rav Eliashiv who is The Highest authority,THEN and only then can you have a claim to this land otherwise what do you have?/?? That means they make decisions.you're not happy or you want to have your own set of laws then you're welcome but you dont have a claim to israel.Sorry.
14. Sunni Muslims
ben ,   singapore   (03.24.09)
I know a suni muslim family in singapore, they observe Pesach, I was at shock when I heard the clear their house from chametz, and show such reverence to the Pesach observance. And here you idiots quarel and quarel no end to your quarels. IDIOTS ! Anyway it is so Jewish to quarel and quarel. otherwise you idiots are not jewish : -) Now the business of making profit from selling matza happens to be the biggest fraud on earth. I eat chapati everyday, no problem here :-)~
15. Why do we live in Israel at all?
Ruvy ,   Israel   (03.24.09)
What the secular Jews who whine about prohibitions on selling Hametz during PessaH fail to consider is why we are living in this country at all. We are not living here so some journalist from Hungary can brag "I founded the Jewish State". We live here at the command of G-d. That is why the Russian delegates refused a far better deal in 1903 - settlement in Kenya. This is holy land and the secular fools haven't even enough culture to understand that on holy land one ought to behave in a certain way. This does not exonerate "religious" Jews who live here who act like uncivilized pigs, strewing a path of sin and hypocrisy for the secular Jews to follow and call "righteousness". But not all "religious" Jews act like this, and secular Jews need to have the sense to comprehend that there is more to the world than their egotistical desires to enjoy that which they wish when they wish. For that they can live in New York, Paris, or Moscow. They, like "religious" Jews who bring shame upon our people with their disgusting behavior (sexual abuse, dishonesty, theft, etc.), need not live here.
16. Israel is our name.Israel is the name of our Land.
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (03.24.09)
Maguen David stands in our flag. Those who don't wish to live in this land with all that implies, with the coherence that that implies, should go live elsewhere or fight to change the name of the country to anything else and change its flag. Even Ben Gurion respected the sanctity of Shabat!
17. Israelis want to eat bread only when they know its not allow
Yaron   (03.24.09)
SUCK IT UP its 2 weeks
18. #16 Complement
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (03.24.09)
Even Ben Gurion respected the sanctity of Shabat,of Pessach and of being Jew.
19. The RETURNING JEWS bring with them all kinds of other...
ben ,   singapore   (03.24.09)
..traditions that is a burden on the Israelis who were born an living in Israel. The fact is I have seen all these kind of nonsense in Israel. It is very sad to see Jews argueing over pesach observance even after all these years. Burden on the tax system. Burden on the welfare system Burden on the state. Burden on Judaism You wont die if you dont eat bread 8 days ! You better die if you embarass the poor who eat bread for the reason they dont have the means to purchase the expensive matzo. The matzo business should supply free matzo to the poor in Israel if they are real jews ! It all business, business and unethical business by THEFT ! You rob the poor, you rob pesach, you stay ripped apart by your greedy ways ! And I have to share your burden for we stay under the Tent of Jacob . Burden and detriment come along with our stubborness and pride. You puff up just like YIS ! Cant you stay united for even one day ?
20. Eat bajra, bhaki, poli or phulka = chapati :-)
ben ,   singapore   (03.24.09)
manaseh meyer eat chapati....he hehe ehehheheh : -)
21. Without religious Jews there would be no secular Jews
Doron ,   Israel   (03.24.09)
If you are secular and see Jewish values and culture as important and worth saving, respect the religious! Because without them, you don't exist! And this comes from an atheist secular Jew.
22. Kapparot ritual on Yom Kippur
Enough! ,   israel   (03.24.09)
Seculars have to tolerate the vile and disgusting ritual of Kapparot on Yom Kippur - to any animal lover that is vile. More vile than selling bread. So the religious should just shut up - they don't rule the world - or even israel. They are disgusting smelly vermin.
23. 12 Excuse me please,New York City "girl"
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (03.24.09)
Do you live in Israel? Do Haredim bother you while you are eating your pork steak in New York City? What are you complaining about ,I can not understand... It doesn't make sense you billious hate towards a parcel of Israeli Jewish population since this is not your country and the population that you are complaining about do not bother you in your own land. Do you understand the insanity of your hate?
24. The battle for Israel gets more intense. Jewish heritage or
Jae ,   Lynn USA   (03.24.09)
Greek? Which gets the influence? We shall see
25. #23, NYC girl is correct
Liron ,   ZY, Israel   (03.24.09)
I agree with NYC girl who seems to understand Israeli sentiments more than you do. Unfortunately, the Ultra-Orthodox have no respect for my rights or my beliefs. They will not win. This is a Jewish country with a multitude of traditions and beliefs. this is not there country
26. #23 Karen
Ben ,   Monroe USA   (03.24.09)
Hatred Karen?? Yes Karen in each and every word you post is intense hatred.!! Why because somebody else has an opposite viewpoint to you and the hypocrites named herediim. That's right Kaen, lying hypocrites who do not practice Torah Judaism, rather rebbinical Judaism. They kiss the hand of their rebbunim just as the goyem kiss the ring of the pope. We keep reading that the herediim demand this and the herediim demand that. But we read and see when we visit Israel of their failure to to serve Israel, rather demand that Israel serve their manias. The insanity of hatred certainly exists in Israel, unfortunately it is you and your beloved herediim who are the chief exponents of such. Be careful Karen, your own beloved herediim will beat you if you fail to follow each and every idiotic demand they call for. Israel unfortunately is blessed/damned with religious insanity. The sooner the religious learn to live and let live, the sooner Israel will be a decent place to live. Hashem hasn't bestowed upon you the right to tell others how to live. Bluntly put Karen, mind your own business. You and the rest of the world will be better for it.
27. Yet another storm in a teacup...
Radka ,   Athens, Greece   (03.24.09)
I'm just not getting this. Right now religious Greece is officially fasting the 40-days before Easter. No fuss. Menus for fasters are simply placed next to menus for non-fasters, each person having a free choice and no one complaining. Why does everything in Israel have to be such a bloody song-and-dance?
28. Boycott the stores all year, no need to shop there.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (03.25.09)
