31. #22 One more thing
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (03.26.09)
What could be done in Israel would be ,as by the time of the Temple, everyone to give a certain set amount of money per year or month, every body the same ,but according to gender, age, etc,to keep the Rabbinate and in that would be included all that is payed now by a couple getting married or a Brit Milah...
32. Masorti Wedding
Simon ,   UK   (03.26.09)
If 2 jews get married (and could have married in a Orthodox Shuel) by a Masorti Rabbi and then want to get divorced they need a Get from an Orthodox Bet Din. Why ? Even though the Orthodox establishment say they dont recognise it could be a halachic marriage. So to be sure the divorce is Kosher they need an Orthodox Get.
33. #24 - Keren, Masorti "Rabbis" aren't really Rabbis...
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (03.26.09)
... and Masorti "Halacha" isn't really Halacha. Therefore, the halachic requirements of having kosher witnesses is not fulfilled. What can I really say about a movement that allows its members to drive on Shabbat and Yom Tov, but technically still forbids them from carrying car keys in their pockets on those days? It's kinda like saying that homosexuality is a sin, but then allowing gay couples to get "halachically" married. Whatever happened to Yirat Chet?
34. 29 - sure looks like a lot of jews are against you here
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (03.26.09)
your narrow opinion is not accepted by most jews, so the majority is against you. remember, people are not against you because of torah, they are against you because you are hateful.
35. Corrupt Orthodoxy
Shimon ,   Cincinnati, USA   (03.26.09)
1. Take the power away. Take the money out of it. 2. Serve in the Army or leave Israel. 3. No religious parties. 4. Totally secular government 5. No more support for seminaries. 5. Welfare for the medically/psychiatricly impaired only. An end to their stinking corruption.
36. Different Kinds of Masorti/Conservative
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (03.26.09)
Over the years here, having spoken with Masorti/Conservative from the UK and Australia they have each advised me that they are significantly different from American Conservatives. I'm not advocating for them but it's essential not to paint them all with the same brush.
37. 36 - thank you paqid for the honor
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (03.26.09)
thanks you SO MUCH paqid. we were lost and confused, fighting with each other and not knowing why before you shared your profound, deep insights with us. now everything makes sense and there is meaning in our lives because of your always sound and wise counsel. i'm going to savor in this moment and go ponder your words for more deeper and richer meanings now. yippee!
38. Masorti and other dilutions of Judaism
Arik ,   ft Lauderdale   (03.29.09)
Though the orthodoxy is far from being right and too rigid in its stance let it be known that Masorti Reform and Reconstructionist are far worse and even less reliable than Orthodoxy. Many rabbis of these diluted forms od judaism are extremely self-conscious and even to a certain extent arrogant and only faithful to their own interest. Orthodox are certainly not the best but much less than their e.g. conservative "colleagues"
39. Masorti
Rina ,   Beersheva   (03.29.09)
Nowadays the Conservative movement is closer to Reform, whereas 50 years ago it was a little closer to Orthodox. True Judaism is Torah Judaism and the other movements will die and assimilate out of the Judaism in another generation or two. Just look at American Jewry. The Orthodox there are about 10-15% of the Jews and they are the only ones whose decendants will be Jewish.
40. Future of Jewish People in Galut
Merav ,   Yesha   (03.29.09)
If you want to know what the future of the Jewish People is in the Galut, just read the obituary and society columns. The older non-Orthodox Jews who die leave mostly non-Jewish grandchildren and great-grandchildren, if they have grandchildren at all. And as for weddings, a large number of non-Orthodox marriages are intermarriages. Add all this to a very low birthrate, and you'll get the picture.Really tragic.
41. Thank you Merav
BEN ,   MONROE USA   (03.31.09)
We, the Jewish people in the Galut as you so quaintly define us thank you for showing just how stupid one person can be. As a Jew in the Galut, my grandchildren are ALL JEWS. In fact three are Israeli Jews and one has served in the IDF which many so called Israeli "orthodox" Jews fail to do since they are too busy "studying" at a local yeshivah. Just remember this dear fellow Jew, it wasn't the orthodox Jew who fought to make certain the rebirth of Israel came to fruition. It was the secular Jew who gave his and her blood and guts. It was the American Jew who whose willingness to give of himself both with his blood and guts manning the little ships bringing survivors to israel. When money was needed guess where it came from. AMERICA!! Your hypocrisy is overwhelming. You want but give nothing to Israel in return. It is an absolutely sickening example of orthodox distortion of the real Judaism you post. Your right it is a tragic situation when the so called orthodox can do nothing better than find fault with other Jews while making utter fools of themselves while doing it. Oh yes, I do have three other grandchildren who are probably better Jews than you. They defend Israel from here while you denigrate her there.
42. # 40
Ben ,   Monroe USA   (03.31.09)
Another thing, here we have families we support. The government does not give out aid based on the number of children we have. We take responsibility for our families. You represent a bunch a beggars, always demanding while giving nothing in return. That's tragic.
