1. A rare gift in Politics....
Aaron ,   SF, USA   (03.30.09)
would be an Israeli Prime Minister NOT having to accommodate any other country's President but doing what is best for his own people. Could you imagine Russia telling the United states how to end it's racism problem? Russia: Hey America, just secede the west coast and make it a Native American country!
2. Obama
Chad ,   Gilbert, AZ   (03.30.09)
Believe me Israel, Obama is not your friend. He will do your country harm. He is part of a coalition of liberals who's socialist agenda is geared up to rip jerusalem in two for political sake.
3. BIBI-THE GREAT DICTATOR!!!
al mann ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.30.09)
From the time Bibi deposed Moshe Feiglin, I had the feeling that there was really something wrong this time. Such a big government in order to satisfy the power lusts from which he suffers. Did the citizens vote for this government? The citizens voted ostensibly for a Likud ideology which was cast aside, thrown out, rejected by its chairman and so-called leader. His appointments omitted Benny Begin, one of the most intelligent people in the country. Bibi doesn't seek intelligence, creativity of thought. He seeks sheepish followers who are passive and are willing to be stepped on and take his orders. Is this KOSHER for the citizens? We are going from freedom into slavery theis Passover. Thanks a lot, BIBI!!!!
4. He deserves a chance, but...

Israel's new prime minister has already projected weakness and compromise to an entirely harsh and unsympathetic world. I voted for George W. Bush in 2000. To my utter dismay, Bush and the Republicans turned on Israel with a fury after the 9/11 Muslim-terror atrocities. Bush determined it was Israel who needed to appease our Islamic enemy "coalition partners" by means of territorial withdrawals; the mass-expulsion of Jews from Jewish land. Bush and the Republicans commended Sharon for his "willingness" to expel thousands of Jews from their homes, farms and synagogues, from Gaza and northern Samaria. Sharon was commended for his willingnes to do this in the midst of daily terrorism and violence. Bush had this new language codified in our national party platform for the first time in the history of the GOP, August 2004. The platform read in part: "Republicans agree with with President Bush that Israel’s plan to remove all settlements from Gaza and several settlements from the West Bank is a courageous step toward peace in the face of continuing terrorist violence. This initiative can stimulate progress toward peace as laid out in the Road Map launched by President Bush...." Now we have Mr. Obama and the Europeans demanding Netanyahu make further dangerous - even deadly - concessions of strategic land to our inveterate enemies. Mr. Obama ran with anti-Semites like Reverend Wright and with members of the Nation of Islam; he associated intimately with Israel-hating jihadists like Rashid Khalidi much of his adult life in Chicago politics. Instead of projecting firmness and resolve, Mr. Netanyahu chose the path of weakness and compromise. Instead of building a strong, right-leaning, nationalist government coalition, Netanyhu cobbled together a centrist, even a leftist coalition, dedicated to compromise and retreat. I suppose he deserves a chance, but he is off to a very disheartening start.
5. Rare?! In six years we'll probably have Olmert as PM again!!
Dana ,   Israel   (03.30.09)
This country suffers from two political plagues: 1) an aristocratic government system which maintains the same people up on top for dozens of years, until they are too sick or old to go on. And then when they are, they step down and make way for their children to take over and become MKs. 2) a short memory: Israelis forget very quickly how badly they were led by former leaders and vote them into government again the moment they hear the politicians' new empty promises for the next campaign. Those who do not forget, lose all hope for change and betterment and give up voting altogether.
6. it's all relative
eddie ,   London UK   (03.31.09)
whatever he does, will have opponents and supporters, and wise guys and remember, rabin had his second term, as did Begin.
7. He is ready to give BIBI a chance till such time
Al   (03.31.09)
that he refuses to give back the country to your enemies. Then the fine author will unleash a shit storm of vile.
8. Give the man a chance for G-d's sake!
Frumious Falafel ,   Williamsburg, VA USA   (04.01.09)
For G-d's sake Israel, I just finished a book on 1967, and it was the same vituperative bickering from the press about the so called "new" leaders that don't have the "real connection" to the Yishuv like Ben Gurion. For Christ sake, Israelis have to be the most critical people on the face of the earth! Bibi is good in that he speaks English brilliantly and that will work wonders with the American (and UK) media. Give the poor man a chance. He had to create this bloated government in order to move ahead b/c of Israel's screwqed up voting system -- don't blame Bibi! Blame yourselves! Fix the darn thing Raise the limit fopr a party to engage in elections, period full stop! After 100 days, if Bibi has made the country a catastrophe as per all of your predictions, *then* you can all jump on him together. But is would be wise to wait until AFTER he has dealt the very very bad hand regarding Iran dealt him my history and the election of Obama. Thus I recommend you support hi until at LEAST you have had some type of near-term solution with the Mullahs that will hold them off for at least another 5 - 10 years while you develop yet better arms for destroying the next round of yet more entrenched Persian nuclear bunkers (whereby saving Europe and the rest of the civilized world -- no small feat), Of course they will all will scold you above the table, but will be shaking you hand under the table just like after Iraq. SUPPORT YOUR GOOD SOLID GOVERNMENT -- they need it! FYI, I'm an Israel-supporting Jew and if you haven't notice the majority of the world is ganging up on you. Now would NOT therefore me a good time to begin criticizing all the actions of the new government. Israel typically has choices of bad or worse decisions -- there IS no silver bullet. There IS no "correct" decision. It's a matter of choosing the LEAST WORST DECISION. That is the reality that Israel is in right now.
